Have you noticed that the letters on Xiaomi's keyboard have become too small? This is a common problem β especially for users of high-resolution Redmi, POCO or Mi smartphones. Small font not only creates discomfort when typing, but also increases the risk of typos. Fortunately, MIUI has several ways to fix this, from standard settings to hidden keyboard features.
In this article, we will discuss 5 working methods for enlarging the font on the keyboard, both system and third-party (for example, Gboard), you will learn what settings are responsible for the scale of text, how to circumvent the limitations of MIUI, and what to do if changes do not apply, and also why sometimes the letter size is reset after updating and how to prevent this.
Spoiler: The quickest way is to zoom in to Settings β Screen, but it's not just going to affect the keyboard. If you just want to zoom in on the keyboard font, read on.
1. Enlarge the font through the MIUI settings (system method)
The most obvious method is to use the built-in MIUI tools, which is suitable for all Xiaomi models, including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and Mi 11. Importantly, this method will change the font size throughout the interface, not just on the keyboard.
Instructions:
- π± Open the Settings. β Screen.
- π Find the Text Size and Display section (in older versions) MIUI β Scope of typeface).
- π±οΈ Move the slider to the right to enlarge the font. Values are available from Small to Huge.
- π Restart your smartphone if the changes donβt apply immediately.
β οΈ Note: When the font is maximized, some interface elements (e.g. icons in the font) MIUI Launcher) can move or crop. If it does, put the slider back one division.
2. Setting text size in Gboard (if installed)
Many Xiaomi users are replacing the standard keyboard with Google's Gboard, which has separate font settings that don't affect the rest of the interface. Here's how to find them:
Steps:
- Open any field to enter text (for example, in Messages) to make the keyboard appear.
- Press on. βοΈ Settings (cog in the top Gboard menu).
- Select Topics β Create your own theme.
- Scroll down to the Text section and set up: π The size of the keys (affects the size of the buttons themselves) π€ Text size (changes the size of the letters on the keys)
Save the topic and apply it.
Important: You can't make the key font bigger than the keys themselves in Gboard. If the letters are cut, you can first increase the size of the keys.
Backup keyboard settings (Export to Settings β Backup)
Check the Gboard version on Google Play (must be at least 12.0)
Close all applications that use the keyboard (e.g. Telegram)
Reboot the smartphone after the changes-->
3. Hidden MIUI keyboard settings (for power users)
V MIUI There are hidden settings that allow you to fine-tune the keyboard display, and they're available through the developer settings or special commands β miui_keyboard_text_scale, which is responsible for the scale of the text on the keys.
How to change it:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. Press 7 times on the MIUI Version until the notification appears.
Settings β Additional β For Developers
Minimum width
411dp
adb shell settings put system miui_keyboard_text_scale 1.3(where 1.3 is the scale coefficient; the maximum value is 1.5).
β οΈ Attention: Incorrect values in the Developer Settings can cause the keyboard to malfunction. If it stops opening after the changes, reset the settings via Settings β Annexes β Application management β keyboard β Warehouse β Clear the data.

4.Use of design themes for the keyboard
If the standard methods didn't work, try changing the theme of the keyboard. MIUI and Gboard have themes with enlarged keys and fonts. For example, the "Contrast" theme in MIUI Keyboard automatically makes the letters larger.
How to apply the topic:
- π¨ For MIUI Keyboard: Open the keyboard in any application. Click on βοΈ Settings β Topics: Select a topic marked "Large text" or "High Contrast".
- π¨ For Gboard: Go to Gboard Settings β Topics. Select "Create your own theme." In "Text" set the maximum font size.
| Keyboard theme | Type size | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Contrast (MIUI) | Large (+20%) | Elderly users, poor vision |
| Material Dark (Gboard) | Medium. | Dark mode, standard text |
| Own (Gboard) | Customizable (up to +50%) | Individual preferences |
| Minimal (MIUI) | Small (-10%) | High PPI screens (e.g. Xiaomi 13) |

If MIUI Keyboard doesnβt have large-face themes, install an alternative keyboard from Google Play, such as SwiftKey or Fleksy, which have more text zoom options.
