Are you missing important calls because your phone is in your bag or in another room? Incoming call lights on Xiaomi solve this problem β a flashing screen or LED will notify you of a missed call even from a distance. In this article, we will discuss all the ways to activate the function, from built-in MIUI tools to third-party applications for models where the default option is absent.
Importantly, not all Xiaomi devices support hardware LED display (e.g. Redmi Note 12 or POCO X5 donβt have it), and the software alternative of flashing the screen or highlighting the buttons will help in such cases. We tested all methods on MIUI 14, but the instructions are also valid for earlier versions (12/13), with minor differences in the menu.
1. Verification of light indication support for your Xiaomi model
Before you set up the feature, make sure your smartphone supports it (LED-lamps next to the front camera are only available in flagship and some mid-budget models:
- π± Xiaomi 13/13 Pro/13 Ultra is a full-fledged RGB-light-emitting
- π± Redmi K50/K60 β white/yellow indicator
- π± POCO F4/F5 β screen flashing (no physical display) LED)
- π« Redmi Note 10/11/12, POCO X3/X4 β Software alternatives only
To determine if you have an LED, look at the top of the screen when the phone is off while charging. If there's a light flashing next to the camera, there's an indicator. For models without a physical LED (like the Redmi 9A), all that remains is setting up the screen blink or using third-party apps.
2. Enabling light indication through MIUI settings (official method)
If your Xiaomi is equipped with a hardware LED, you can activate the call indication through the standard menu. MIUI 12-14:
- Open Settings β Notifications and Status bar.
- Go to the Notification Indicator (in some firmwares, the item is called the Light Indicator).
- Turn on the incoming call switch.
- Adjust the flashing color (if available) and frequency.
For models without a physical LED (such as the POCO M4 Pro), the path will be different:
- Going into Settings β Special facilities.
- Choose a flash screen or visual notifications.
- Activate the option to flash the screen when an incoming call.

Charge your phone at least 30%
Turn off the power saving mode
Make sure there are no active VPN (They can block system settings)-->
β οΈ Note: Some of the firmware for Redmi has hidden the Notification Indicator. To unlock it, switch your phone region to India (via Settings) β Additionally. β Region) and restart the device.
3. Configure via hidden menu of engineering codes (##)
If standard settings donβt allow you to access the light display, try activating it through an engineering menu, which works on 80% of Xiaomi devices, but you need to be careful β wrong actions can reset your network settings.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the combination: ##6484###
- In the menu that appears, select Notification LED (or LED Settings).
- Activate Incoming Call and adjust the color/blinding interval.
For models on Qualcomm Snapdragon (e.g., POCO F3), the code can work:

4. Light display applications on Xiaomi without LED
If your Xiaomi doesnβt have a hardware LED, use third-party utilities. We tested 5 apps β the best options in the table below:
| Annex | Functions | Cons | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Always On Edge | Blinking edges of the screen, color setting, AMOLED support | Battery discharges by 5-7% per hour, advertising | Google Play |
| Flash Notifications | Blinking the screen / camera, working with any notifications | Requires permission for special opportunities | Google Play |
| LED Blinker | Emulation of LED through the screen, support for MIUI themes | Plugins for some paid functions | Google Play |
For installation:
- Download the application from the table.
- Grant permissions for Special Features (in your phone settings).
- In the Utility settings, select Incoming Calls and set up the visual effect.
- Activate the option to Ignore battery optimization for the app.
β οΈ Note: Always On Edge Apps Can Conflict with the Shell MIUI, Check the reviews for your model before using it β for example, Flash Notifications works better on the Redmi Note 11, and Flash Notifications works better on the Redmi Note. POCO X3 Pro β LED Blinker.
5. Manual editing of system files (for advanced)
If none of these methods worked, the last option is to edit system configuration files, which requires root rights and is only suitable for advanced users, and we'll describe the process for Android 12/13 firmware.
Instructions:
- Install Root Explorer or MT Manager.
- Go to /system/vendor/overlay/.
- Find the file. notification_led_overlay.apk (or similar to the name of the name).
- Copy it in /system/product/overlay/.
- Change the file permissions to 644 (r-w-r--r---).
- Reboot the phone.
After the reboot, the LED light will appear in the settings, and on Xiaomi 12T and Redmi K50i, this method will activate the hardware LED even if it has been disabled by the manufacturer.
π‘
Before editing system files, create a backup via TWRP or Swift Backup, which will allow you to restore the phone if it stops booting after editing.
6.Alternative solutions: Xiaomi smart watches and lamps
If setting up the light display on your phone is not possible, consider integrating with the Xiaomi ecosystem:
- πΏ Mi Band 7/8 β vibration + color screen for call notifications.
- π‘ Yeelight β lamps flash when incoming (configured via Mi Home).
- π Xiaomi Smart Speaker β Voice Alerts + light-light.
For the Mi Band link:
- Open Mi Fitness (or Zepp Life for newer versions)
- Go to Notifications. β Incoming calls.
- Activate the option and select the vibration/light pattern.
For Yeelight smart bulbs:
- In the Mi Home app, add a lamp to the room.
- Create automation: If incoming call β Blink the lamp (red, 3 times).
- Link the rule to your phone through Smart Scenarios.
π‘
Integration with Xiaomi smart devices not only solves the problem of missed calls, but also expands the functionality of the ecosystem. For example, Yeelight lamps can flash different colors for different contacts (configured via IFTTT).
7. Troubleshooting: Why the Indicator Doesn't Work
If the light indication is not activated, check the following points:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| LED doesn't blink when ringing | Disabled in the energy saving settings | Add the phone app to the battery optimization exceptions |
| The screen doesn't blink. | Conflict with the subject of design | Return the standard theme to Settings β Screen β Theme |
| The indicator works only when charging. | Firmware restriction | Update MIUI or use Flash Notifications app |
For the diagnosis of hardware LED:
- Turn off the phone.
- Connect the charger.
- If the indicator lights up when charging, but does not work when calling - the problem is the firmware.
- If it does not burn at all, a hardware defect is possible (a service center is required).
Resetting can help if the indication stopped working after the update.
- Go to Settings β About the phone β Reset settings.
- Select Reset all settings (without deleting data).
- After restarting, reset the light indication.
