When a call is made on Xiaomi POCO, the standard display of a contact photo is often limited to a small circle in the center of the screen. This is not only boring, but also inconvenient โ especially if you want to immediately see who is calling without squinting. Fortunately, MIUI firmware (including versions 14 and 15) has ways to stretch the photo to the full screen, and for some POCO models, even activate hidden functions through the engineering menu.
In this article, we will discuss 5 working methods, including official settings, third-party applications and little-known tricks with ADB. Importantly, not all methods are universal - their performance depends on the model (POCO X5 Pro, POCO F5, POCO M6 Pro, etc.) and the version of MIUI. If you are a user of POCO with pure Android (for example, POCO F1 on Pixel Experience), some instructions will not work - we will warn you about this in advance.
1.Official method: setup in the "Phone" (MIUI 14/15)
The easiest method is to use the built-in phone app options. It works on most POCOs with MIUI 14 and later, but has a limitation: the photo will not occupy the entire screen, but only the center part with a blurred background.
Instructions:
- ๐ฑ Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- โ๏ธ Slip on three dots in the upper right corner โ Settings.
- ๐ผ๏ธ Select Inbound Call Style (or Calling in Older Versions).
- ๐ Scroll to the contact photo option and turn on the full screen slider.
- ๐จ If you wish, choose the animation style (such as Zoom or Blurring).
If you don't have a full-screen display, your POCO model doesn't support it at the software level, so move on to the following methods.
2. Hidden MIUI settings: engineering menu (for advanced)
The engineering menu (#4636##) can activate hidden call display options, but this requires caution. Incorrect changes can lead to interface failures!
Step-by-step:
- Open the Phone app and enter the combination: ##4636##.
- In the menu that appears, select Testing โ Phone Information.
- Scroll down to the Incoming Call Settings block.
- Find Fullscreen Photo (or Call UI Mode) and set the value 1 (on).
- Save the changes and restart the phone.
Critical! On some POCOs (e.g. POCO X3 NFC), this setting may be missing or not working correctly, causing a black screen when calling. If after the changes, calls no longer appear, reset the engineering menu settings via ##36446337###.
What if the call interface is lost after the changes?
3. Third-party applications: full control of calls
If the built-in techniques don't work, Google Play apps will come to the rescue, and they not only stretch the photos to the full screen, but they also add customization: animations, themes, widgets. POCO:
| Annex | Functions | Cons | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Truecaller | Full screen photo, spam identification, call recording | Free Advertising Requires Access to Contacts | All POCO models on Android 10+ |
| CallApp | Full-screen photos, themes, spam blocking | Subscription for premium functions | MIUI 12 and newer |
| ExDialer | Call interface customization, T9 support | Outdated design, no Russian language | Any POCO on Android 8.0+ |
How to set up (in the example of Truecaller):
- ๐ฒ Install the app from Google Play.
- ๐ง Launch and provide access to contacts, calls, SMS.
- ๐ผ๏ธ Go to Settings. โ Incoming calls โ Screen style.
- ๐จ Select Full Screen Photo and customize animations.
- ๐ Make Truecaller the default call app in Android settings.
๐ก
Before installing third-party calls, back up your contacts via Settings โ Google โ Backup. Some applications (such as ExDialer) may conflict with MIUI and reset settings.
4. ADB-commands: forced inclusion of full-screen mode
For users willing to work with ADB, there is a way to force full-screen display of photos through system flags, which works on POCO with MIUI 13-15, but requires USB debugging and basic command-line knowledge.
Instructions:
- Turn on Developer Mode on your phone: Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version (shap 7 times).
- Activate USB Debugging in Settings โ Additional โ For developers.
- Connect. POCO Install ADB Tools and execute the command: Adb shell settings put global incoming_call_fullscreen_photo 1
- Reset the device.
Warning: Not all POCO models support this flag. On some devices (e.g., the POCO M4 Pro), the command may return the Setting not found error.
adb shell settings put global call_ui_style 2Install Xiaomi drivers on PC| Enable debugging over USB on your phone | Download platform-tools from Android| Connect POCO to PC in file transfer mode-->
5.Castomization through MIUI themes (limited effect)
There are several styles in the MIUI Themes store that visually enhance the photo of the contact when you call, which doesn't give you a true full-screen mode, but makes the image larger by changing the layout of the interface.
How to apply:
- ๐จ Open the Themes app (Brush icon).
- ๐ Enter fullscreen or big photo call.
- ๐ฒ Choose your favorite theme (such as iOS Call Style or Material Call).
- ๐ผ๏ธ Apply it and check the display of the incoming call.
โ ๏ธ Note: Some themes may conflict with system fonts or icons, causing a bare interface. If the phone slows down after applying the theme, return the standard style to the themes โ Mine. โ By default.
Problem Solving: Why the photo doesn't show up on the full screen
If none of these methods worked, check out these points:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Photo clipped around the edges | Incorrect aspect ratio of the image | Cut the contact photo into a square (1:1) through the Gallery โ Edit |
| Black screen on the call | Conflict after changes to the engineering menu | Reset your phone settings (see spoiler above) |
| Photos are not changing despite settings | Cash contacts are out of date. | Clear the Contacts and Phone cache in the application settings |
| Option not available in MIUI | An outdated firmware version | Update MIUI through Settings โ System Update |
Additional tip: If you use custom firmware POCO (like LineageOS or Pixel Experience), full-screen photo mode can be locked at the system level, in which case only installing an alternative call (see Section 3).
๐ก
On POCO with pure Android (without MIUI), full-screen contact photos can only be configured through third-party apps โ there are no system tools for this.
