Xiaomi Redmi 9A is one of the most popular budget smartphones, but over time even it begins to “slow down”: apps open for a long time, animation twitches, and the system hangs on simple tasks. The reasons can be different from overloaded memory to unoptimized MIUI settings. In this article, we will analyze 10 proven ways to speed up a smartphone – from basic actions to advanced tricks that will return it to its former agility.
It's important to understand that the Redmi 9A is built on a MediaTek Helio G25 processor with 2-3 GB of RAM (depending on the modification), and its capabilities are limited to hardware. However, the right system setup, garbage cleaning and competent resource management can give performance gains of 30-50% even without replacing components.
If your smartphone is slower after the MIUI update, don't be quick to blame the firmware -- often the problem lies in accumulated cache data or application conflicts. And if the lags come on suddenly, maybe one of the background processes that eats up resources is to blame. Then you'll learn how to diagnose and fix it.
1. Cleaning up cache and junk files
The first thing you need to do with the brakes is to delete temporary files that accumulate in the system. Cash speeds up applications, but eventually turns into ballast. On the Redmi 9A, this is especially critical because of the limited storage capacity (32 or 64 GB).
How to clear the cache:
- 📱 Go to Settings. → Annexes → Application management.
- 🔍 Select an app that slows down (like Facebook or Chrome).
- 🧹 Click Clear Cache (not to be confused with Clear Data – this will remove all app settings!).
- 🔄 For mass cleaning, use the built-in Security app → Cleanup → Deep cleaning.
You can use third-party utilities to clean up your garbage automatically, but be careful: some optimizers themselves cause the brakes. You should use the built-in MIUI tools.
💡
If the app is slower after cleaning the cache, it's normal, and the cache will recover as it's used, and after 1-2 days, the speed will return to normal.
2. Disconnecting autoboot and background processes
Many apps run automatically when you turn on your smartphone and run in the background, consuming RAM and processor. On the Redmi 9A, with its modest 2-3 GB of RAM, this is especially noticeable. Shutting down autoboot can free up to 300-500 MB of RAM.
How to turn off autoboot:
- ⚙️ Go to Settings. → Annexes → Application management.
- 🔍 Select an app (such as TikTok or AliExpress).
- 🚫 Click "Stop" and turn it off.
- 🔄 Repeat for all unnecessary apps (especially social networks and instant messengers).
You should also limit background activity.
- Go to Settings → Battery and Performance → Battery Management.
- Select the application and set the “Background Activity” limit.
3. Optimization of animation and visual effects
MIUI is known for its beautiful animations, but they take resources.Switching off or reducing animation speed will make the interface visually faster, even if the hardware doesn't change.
How to speed up animation:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Phone and click on MIUI Version 7 times.
- Back to Settings → Additionally. → For developers.
- Find the items: Windows Animation Scale → Set 0.5x or Disable. Transition Animation Scale → 0.5x. Animation Duration → Disable.
These changes will make the transitions between screens instantaneous, but the interface will become less smooth. If you don't like the result, return the settings back.
What to do if there is no “Developers” item?
4. reset to factory settings (hard reset)
If previous methods didn't work, maybe the system is so jammed that it needs a complete reset. It's a radical way, but it's guaranteed to return the smartphone to its original speed. On the Redmi 9A, the reset takes 5-7 minutes and requires no connection to a PC.
How to make a hard reset:
Save important data (photos, contacts) on Google Drive or PC
Remember the passwords from the accounts (they will erase!)
Charge your phone at least 50%
Remove the memory card (if any)-->
- Go to Settings → About the phone → Reset settings.
- Select “Reset All Settings” (not to be confused with “Reset Network Settings”!).
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot.
If the update does not come automatically, you can try installing it manually:
- Download the latest firmware for Redmi 9A from the official Xiaomi website (Support section).
- Place the file in the root folder of the phone (not in the folder!).
- In the update menu, click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select "Select firmware file."
| MIUI version | Release dates | Changes in productivity |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12.5 | 2021–2022 | Optimization of RAM consumption, reduction of lags |
| MIUI 13 | 2022–2023 | Improved Background Process Management |
| MIUI 14 | 2023–2026 | Reducing the load on the processor, new caching algorithms |
If after the update, the smartphone began to work slower, perhaps a new version MIUI Not optimized for Helio G25. In this case, you can roll back to the previous firmware (but it requires unlocking the bootloader and skills to work with Fastboot).
6. Use of lightweight versions of applications
Many popular apps have lightweight versions (Lite) that consume fewer resources, such as Facebook Lite instead of Facebook or Messenger Lite instead of the standard messenger, and this is true for Redmi 9A, where every megabyte of RAM counts.
Which annexes should be replaced:
- 📘 Facebook → Facebook Lite (saves up to 150 MB of RAM).
- 💬 Messenger → Messenger Lite.
- 🌍 Chrome → Chrome Lite or Opera Mini.
- 📷 Instagram → Web version via browser (less convenient, but faster).
It is also worth removing or freezing pre-installed Xiaomi apps that you do not use (e.g. Mi Video, Mi Music, GetApps). ADB App Inspector (requires superuser rights).
💡
If you do not want to remove system applications, at least turn off their autoboot and background activity (see section 2).
7.Memory optimization: transferring data to a memory card
Redmi 9A It supports microSD cards up to 512GB, but by default, the applications are installed in internal memory. If it's more than 80% full, the system starts to slow down. SD-map.
How to transfer data:
- 📁 For photos and videos: Use the Gallery → highlight files → «Move it» → Select a memory card.
- 🎵 For music: in the Mi Music app, click on the track → «Management» → «Move it to SD-map».
- 📱 For applications: Settings → Annexes → select the application → «Warehouse» → «Change» → «Memory map».
Important: Not all applications support the transfer to SD-In addition, the speed of work from the memory card is lower than from the internal drive, so critical applications (messengers, banking programs) are better left in the internal memory.
💡
Use A1/A2 or UHS-I memory cards – they are optimized for application and reduce lags.
8 Advanced methods: acceleration and core
If you're willing to take risks, you can try overclocking the processor or changing the kernel settings. This will increase performance, but reduce battery life and can lead to overheating. On the Redmi 9A, overclocking is possible only after you get root rights and install a custom core (for example, KernelSU).
What can be done:
- 🔧 Install Kernel Adiutor or FrancoKernel to fine-tune processor frequencies.
- ⚡ Increase the maximum frequency of Helio G25 2.0 GHz to 2.2 GHz (but this will increase heating!).
- 🔄 Change the task scheduler to cfq or bfq for better multitasking.
⚠️ Warning: Overclocking and modifying the core will void warranty, may cause a smartphone to fail, and shorten battery life!
If you’re not ready for this kind of experiment, it’s best to limit your software optimization (see the previous sections). For most users, that’s enough to bring the Redmi 9A back to life.
