Why Xiaomi has pop-ups and how to deal with them

Pop-ups on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones are one of the most common user problems, appearing at the most unexpected moments: during games, watching videos or even unlocking the screen, most often banner ads from system applications, notifications from MIUI or intrusive tips from Xiaomi services.

The main reason for their appearance is the MIUI branded shell, which actively integrates advertising and promotional content into the system. Even after buying a new phone, many users find that after a few days, notifications begin to fall about new features, promotions or applications. Fortunately, most of these windows can be turned off manually without resorting to radical measures like firmware.

In this article, we will discuss 7 working ways to remove pop-ups on Xiaomi once and for all – from standard settings to hidden shell functions. The methods are suitable for all modern versions of MIUI 12, MIUI 13 and MIUI 14, as well as for most models: Xiaomi 13/14 series, Redmi Note 12/11, POCO F5/X5 and others.

1. Disabling advertising in system applications

The first thing you need to do is block ads in standard Xiaomi apps, and many of them (e.g. Browser, Music, Themes) show banners by default.

• 🔍 In the search bar, enter the name of the system application (for example, the browser).
• 🚫 Go to Advertising and turn off the slider Personalized Advertising.

Note that in some regions (e.g. Europe), system apps are disabled by default due to local laws. If you have a global version of MIUI but still have ads, try changing the region in your Xiaomi account settings.
