How to permanently remove news from the screen Xiaomi Redmi: from simple ways to hidden settings

The MIUI news feed on the Xiaomi Redmi home screen is one of the most controversial features of the firmware. On the one hand, it promises to promptly inform you about important events, weather and recommendations. On the other hand, it takes up precious space, slows down the system and often shows unnecessary content. If you are tired of constant updates to the tape, advertising or just want to return a clean desktop, this is the guide for you.

Depending on the MIUI version (12, 13, 14 or HyperOS) and the Redmi model (Note 10, 11, 12, POCO, etc.), the ways to delete news may vary. We have collected 5 working methods, from basic settings to advanced ADB tricks that will work even for locked devices. Important: some options require administrator rights or unlock the bootloader, so read the warnings carefully before you act.

If you are not sure about your model or firmware version, check it in Settings โ†’ About Phone โ†’ MIUI version. For most modern Redmi (2020 and later) all the methods described below are relevant, but owners of older devices (for example, Redmi 5/6/7) may need additional configuration.

1. Disable news via standard MIUI settings

The easiest and safest way to do this is to use built-in system options, which are suitable for most users and require no technical skills, but there is a limitation: on some Redmi models (especially those with global firmware), some items can be hidden.

To take down the news feed:

  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ Long press on the empty seat of the main screen โ†’ Select Screen Settings (or Home Screen).
  • โš™๏ธ Scroll to the News Feed section (or MIUI News) and turn off the slider.
  • ๐Ÿ”„ If there is no item, try an alternative path: Settings โ†’ Home screen โ†’ Widgets โ†’ News and deactivate it.
  • ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ To completely delete tape data, clear the app cache MIUI News in Settings โ†’ Annexes โ†’ Application management.

On some firmware (e.g. HyperOS), the news feed is integrated into Google Search or Xiaomi Search.

  1. Open the search widget on the main screen.
  2. Click on the gear icon (โš™๏ธ) lower-right.
  3. Select Settings โ†’ Disable news or Hide the feed.

โš ๏ธ Note: On devices with firmware for China (China) ROM) The standard shutdown may not work due to Xiaomi's policy, in which case proceed to the following methods.

2. Delete via "Developer Mode" (for experienced users)

If the standard settings do not help, you can use hidden options MIUI. This method requires activation of Developer Mode, but does not need root rights. MIUI 12-14 and HyperOS.

Steps to shut down:

  1. Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings โ†’ About Phone. Click 7 times in a row on the MIUI Version (you will be notified "You are a developer").

ADB

adb shell pm hide com.miui.systemAdSolution

or for new versions:

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolution

Once the command is completed, the news feed will disappear from the home screen, but the system application will remain in memory (this is safe).

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolution

โš ๏ธ Attention: Teams ADB You may be in conflict with some banking applications (e.g. Sberbank Online or Tinkoff). If payment services have stopped working after the news is turned off, return your settings back.

What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Make sure you have Xiaomi drivers installed for your model. Download them from the official website or use the universal Mi PC Suite. Also check that Settings โ†’ For developers, the option is enabled to debug over USB (Safe Mode) and you have given permission to connect to the PC when a request appears on your phone.

3. Use of third-party launchers (without root)

If system methods have failed or you want to drastically change the interface, install an alternative launcher, which replaces the standard MIUI shell, allowing you to customize the main screen to your liking.

  • ๐ŸŒŸ Nova Launcher โ€“ flexible widget settings, gesture and themes support.
  • ๐ŸŽจ Lawnchair is an open source lightweight launcher that mimics the Pixel Launcher.
  • ๐Ÿš€ Apex Launcher โ€“ Optimized for performance, suitable for weak Redmis (e.g. Redmi) 8A).
  • ๐Ÿ”ง Microsoft Launcher โ€“ Integration with the Windows ecosystem, synchronization with PC.

How to install and configure:

  1. Download the launcher from Google Play (or APKMirror if the store is blocked).
  2. After installation, click the Home button and select the new launcher as the main one.
  3. In the launcher settings, disable all news widgets (usually in the Home Screen โ†’ Widgets section).
  4. To completely remove the system tape MIUI can hide it through the launcher settings (the option to hide system applications).

Advantages of the method:

  • โœ… Does not require rooting or ADB.
  • โœ… Allows customization of the interface (icons, fonts, animations).
  • โœ… It works on all versions. MIUI HyperOS.

Disadvantages:

  • โŒ Some system functions (e.g., Dual Applications or Second Space) may not work properly.
  • โŒ Launchers consume additional RAM (critical for Redmi with 2-3 GB of RAM).

๐Ÿ’ก

If the unlock animation is missing after installing the launcher, return it to the settings: Settings โ†’ Lock screen โ†’ Unlock animation. Select System or Nova.

4. Manual removal of system APKs (root only)

This method is suitable for advanced users who are ready to get root rights, it allows you to completely remove the news feed at the system file level, but requires caution: improper actions can lead to a firmware failure.

List of applications responsible for news in MIUI:

Name APKfolderDescriptionCan I remove it?
com.miui.systemAdSolution/system/priv-app/The main module of the news feedโœ… Yes.
com.miui.news/system/app/News appendixโœ… Yes.
com.xiaomi.discover/system/priv-app/Recommendations serviceโš ๏ธ Partially (may break search)
com.miui.weather2/system/priv-app/Weather (sometimes integrated into the tape)โŒ No (for widgets)

Removal instructions (requires Magisk or another root manager):

  1. Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer or Solid Explorer).
  2. Go to /system/priv-app/ or /system/app/.
  3. Find the APK from the table above and rename the extension from.apk to.bak (e.g. com.miui.systemAdSolution.apk โ†’ com.miui.systemAdSolution.bak).
  4. Reboot the phone.

โš ๏ธ Warning: Deleting com.xiaomi.discover could disrupt Xiaoโ€™s search and voice assistant AI. If after manipulation, the phone began to slow down or fly to bootloop, restore deleted files through the TWRP or re-flash the device.

๐Ÿ’ก

Deleting system APKs is an irreversible process without backup. Always save original files (e.g., copy them to a PC) before renaming or deleting them.

5. Disconnection through Google services (for global firmware)

On Redmi with Global ROM, the news feed is often tied to Google services, especially Google Discover, to remove it:

Method 1: Through Google Settings

  1. Long click on the Google search widget on the home screen.
  2. Select Turn off the tape or Settings โ†’ Interests โ†’ Disable personalization.
  3. In Google Settings โ†’ Account โ†’ Data and personalization disable Web and app activity.

Method 2: Through ADB (without root)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

This command will disable Google Discover, but it will retain basic search functionality to bring it back:

adb shell pm enable com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

Method 3: Removing Google Updates

  • Go to Settings โ†’ Apps โ†’ All Apps โ†’ Google.
  • Press three points (โ‹ฎ) โ†’ Remove updates.
  • Turn off the auto-update of the app in Google Play.

These methods work on most Redmis with MIUI Global, including the Redmi Note 10/11/12, POCO X3/X4 and other models, but on devices with China ROM or HyperOS, a combination of several methods may be required.

6. Alternative solutions: concealing the tape without removing

If you donโ€™t want to interfere with system files, but a standard shutdown doesnโ€™t help, try these workarounds:

  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ Change the firmware region: Install firmware for another region (e.g, EEA Instead of Global, where the news feed is less intrusive. Use the Xiaomi Flash Tool or TWRP.
  • ๐Ÿ”„ Resetting the launcher settings: In Settings โ†’ Annexes โ†’ Launcher MIUI press Warehouse. โ†’ Clear the data. It'll reset all the widgets, including the news feed.
  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Locking through DNS: Set up a Private DNS In Settings โ†’ Connections โ†’ Private DNS dns.adguard.com.This will block the download of ads and parts of news.
  • ๐Ÿ“ต Background Limitation: In Settings โ†’ Battery โ†’ Background Limitation Add the App MIUI News on the limited list.

For owners of Redmi with HyperOS (2026 and later), there is another trick:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Home Screen โ†’ Widgets.
  2. Find the News widget and drag it to the basket (will appear with a long press).
  3. If the widget is not removed, replace it with an empty widget (like Weather or Calendar).

๐Ÿ’ก

If all the app icons are gone after the launcher is reset, don't panic! Just reboot the phone - the system will restore the shortcuts automatically.
