Pop-ups on Xiaomi smartphones are one of the most annoying features of MIUI firmware. Even after buying a new device, users are faced with intrusive advertising in system applications, notifications from Mi Account services and random banners that appear directly on top of open programs. The reasons for this behavior lie in the aggressive monetization of the brand shell: the company integrates advertising modules even into basic functions to compensate for the low price of the devices.
But the good news is that most pop-ups can be turned off without rooting or manipulating them. In this article, we'll look at all the possible sources of intrusive notifications, from weather and browser ads to "useful services" system alerts, and show you how to remove them forever. It's important to understand that some windows are linked to Google Services, and others are linked to internal MIUI mechanisms. So, the approaches to disabling them will vary.
If youβve tried to turn off notifications through Settings β Notifications, but the windows keep popping up, donβt worry. 90% of the time, the problem is solved by a combination of 2-3 methods described below.
1. Disabling advertising in Xiaomi system applications
The main source of pop-ups is the ad modules built into standard MIUI applications: Weather, Music, Browser, Themes and even Settings, which are not only displayed in the program interface, but also in the form of push notifications, and fortunately, they can be turned off centrally.
For that, go to:
Settings β Password and Security β Authorization and Blocking β Advertising Services (MSA)Here, you need to deactivate the Personalized Recommendations slider (or Advertising Services in older versions of MIUI) and then the system will stop showing targeted ads, but some banners may remain β they will have to be manually removed in each application.
Here is a list of apps where ads need to be turned off separately:
- π¦οΈ Weather: Open the app β Click on three dots in the upper right corner β Settings β Turn off "Advertising Notices" and "Show Advertising".
- π΅ Music: Settings β Additionally. β Advertising Notices (Disable).
- π Browser: Settings β Confidentiality β Personalized recommendations (disable).
- π¨ Topics: Profile β Settings β Promotional notices.
β οΈ Note: After disabling ads in the browser, some features (for example, βBrief Newsβ on the home page) may stop working. This is normal β they can be replaced by third-party services.
2. Block notifications from Mi Account and system services
Pop-ups with suggestions to βupdate firmwareβ, βconnect Mi Cloudβ or βsynchronize dataβ come from Xiaomi system services. They can not be removed, but you can limit their activity.
1. Go to Settings β Notifications and Status bar β Notification management.
2. enter "Mi Account" in the search box and disable all notifications for this service.
3. Repeat step 2 for the following applications:
- π± MiuiDaemon (responsible for system alerts)
- π Update the system (unless you want to receive notifications about new versions) MIUI)
- βοΈ Mi Cloud (Synchronization and Backup)
- π‘οΈ Security (antivirus and optimization)
To completely disable system notifications, it may be necessary to limit the background activity of these applications.

3. Removal of pre-installed applications (without root rights)
Many pop-ups are due to pre-installed applications that cannot be removed by standard means, but can be disabled or removed via ADB (no root licenses).
| Annex | Appointment | Can I remove it? | How to turn off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Video | Video player with ads | Yes (via ADB) | Disable notifications in settings |
| Mi Browser | Browser with banners | Yes (via ADB) | Replace it with Chrome/Firefox |
| GetApps | Branded app store | No (systemic) | Disable auto-updates |
| Mi Pay | Payment service | Yes (via ADB) | Remove if you don't use it |
| Cleaner | Advertising optimizer | No (systemic) | Disable notifications |
To remove via ADB, follow the following steps:
- Enable USB Debugging in Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version (click 7 times on the line with the version, then go back to Additional Settings β For Developers).
- Connect your phone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.xiaomi.mipicks (replace com.xiaomi.mipicks with the desired application package).
β οΈ Warning: Removing system applications can lead to unstable work MIUI. Before executing commands, back up the data. A list of deletion packets can be found on thematic forums (e.g., on thematic forums, 4PDA).
4. Set up permissions for third-party applications
Pop-ups donβt always come from Xiaomi β many third-party apps (especially games and software from unknown sources) abuse permissions to display notifications βover other windows.β
1. Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
2. Select an app that shows annoying windows (such as AliExpress, Wildberries or Likee).
3. Click on "Permissions" and turn off:
- π² "Showing over other windows" (most important of all!)
- π "Notificationsβ (unless alerts from this application are required)
- π "Auto-run (so that the program does not start itself)
For mass permission check, use the filter in Application Management:
Settings β Applications β Application rights β Showing over other windowsHere you will see a complete list of programs that are allowed to display pop-ups. Turn off this permission for all suspicious applications.
π‘
If after disabling permissions, the application stopped working correctly, try first clearing its cache in Settings β Apps β [name] β Clear the cache.
5.Use of third-party tools to block ads
If standard methods don't work, you can use specialized tools that block DNS ads or filter traffic.
1. Blokada (no root rights)
- π‘οΈ Blocks ads in all applications, including system.
- π± Works through VPN (no rooting).
- β οΈ It may conflict with some banking applications.
Download from the official website (not from Google Play!).
2. AdGuard
- π Filtering traffic at the level DNS.
- π Has flexible settings for individual applications.
- π° Free version with restrictions.
DNS66 (for advanced users)
- π Use alternatives to DNS-servers (e.g. 1.1.1.1 or 9.9.9.9).
- π± Requires manual adjustments.
β οΈ Note: When using ad blockers, some features MIUI (For example, weather updates or account syncs may not work properly, so add api.mi.com and account.xiaomi.com to the whitelist.
How to check if the ad blocker is working?
6. Reset notification settings (if nothing helps)
If pop-ups continue to appear despite all attempts, the system may have failed to configure notifications, in which case resetting notification settings to factory notifications will help:
1. Go to Settings β Notifications and Status bar.
2. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select "Reset notification settings."
3. Confirm action.
This procedure will return all notification permissions to the default state, but will not delete your data. After the reset, you will have to manually configure notifications for important applications (messengers, mail, etc.).
Important: On some Xiaomi models (like the Redmi Note 10 Pro or POCO X3 Pro), resetting notifications can also reset Do Not Disturb and Priority Notifications.
π‘
Resetting notification settings is a last resort, and before using it, make sure you turn off all possible sources of pop-ups manually.
7.Alternative firmware: when standard methods don't work
If youβve exhausted all the ways, but pop-ups continue to spoil the user experience, itβs worth considering installing custom firmware.
- π± LineageOS β pure Android without advertising and unnecessary services.
- π Pixel Experience β firmware with interface from Google Pixel.
- π‘οΈ MIUI EU β modified MIUI No Advertising (but with weekly updates).
Installation of custom firmware requires:
- Unlock the bootloader (Bootloader).
- Installations of custom recavery (TWRP).
- Follow the instructions for a specific model (on 4PDA or XDA Developers).
Advantages:
- β Complete lack of advertising and system pop-ups.
- β Faster operation of the device.
- β Regular security updates.
Disadvantages:
- β Loss of warranty (if the device is under warranty).
- β Risk of "bricking" if installed incorrectly.
- β Certain functions (e.g, IR Blaster or Always-on Display may not work properly.
β οΈ Note: Before installing custom firmware, be sure to make a full backup of data through TWRP or Mi Flash Tool. make sure the firmware is compatible with your Xiaomi model (check the device code in Settings) β The phone. β Model).
