The notification curtain on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is one of the most controversial elements of the MIUI interface. On the one hand, it provides quick access to settings and alerts, on the other - many users complain of excessive advertising, lags when opening and awkward location of elements. Especially annoying is the automatically unfolding curtain when unlocking the screen or accidental touches that activate unnecessary functions.
In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to adjust and disable the curtain on Redmi devices (relevant to the Redmi Note 10/11/12/13, Redmi 9/10/11 and others on MIUI 12-14).
- πΉ Completely hide the notification curtain
- πΉ Disable Advertising and Unnecessary Widgets
- πΉ Set up gestures for convenient control
- πΉ Remove automatic deployment when unlocking
- πΉ Return the standard curtain after the update MIUI
Important: Some methods require developer rights or third-party application installation, and we will describe each step in detail so that you can choose the best option without risking the system.
1. How to completely remove the notification curtain on Xiaomi Redmi
If you want to completely hide the curtain (for example, to avoid accidental taps), this can be done through the system settings editor or special applications. Please note that after that, notifications and quick settings will only be available through the Control Panel in the menu.
The most reliable way is to use ADB-commands (does not require root rights, but needs debugging by USB):
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version and press 7 times.
- Enable USB debugging in Settings β Additional β For developers.
- Connect your phone to your PC, install ADB Tools and execute the command:
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0QuickShortcutMaker (available on Google Play) is also suitable for full curtain cover:
- π Open the app and find the system. UI.
- π§ Select Notification Panel and disable it through the created shortcut.
- β οΈ Warning: After that, the curtain will disappear from the interface, but notifications will come to the Notification Center (access via the icon in the status bar).

2. Turning off the automatic rolling of the curtain
Many Xiaomi Redmi users have a problem when the curtain turns itself when you unlock the screen or swipe down, and this is due to the gesture settings in MIUI.
- Go to Settings β Screen β Lock and Protection.
- Select Additional Settings β Automatically deploy notifications.
- Turn off the option to turn when unlocking.
If this item is not available (relevant to MIUI 13-14), use an alternative method:
- π± Install AutoNotification (requires special features).
- π§ Create a rule to block automatic deployment.
- β‘ Enable the option of Notification Intercept in the application settings.
π‘
If after updating MIUI the curtain again began to unfold itself, reset the Louncher settings in Settings β Applications β Application Management β Launcher β Storage β Clear data.
3. Removal of advertisements and unnecessary widgets from the curtain
One of the main annoyances in MIUI is the notification curtain ads, which can come in the form of banners, app recommendations, or "helpful tips" to remove it:
| Type of advertisement | Deleting method | Is root required? |
|---|---|---|
| Banners in the curtain | Disable MIUI Recommendations in Settings β Notifications β More | β No. |
| Weather/news widgets | Remove through long pressing on the widget β Delete | β No. |
| Advertising in quick settings | Use ADB or Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools | β Yes (partially) |
| Random Notifications from Mi Browser | Disable notifications for the browser in the application settings | β No. |
For deep cleaning from advertising, we recommend using Xiaomi utility ADB/Fastboot Tools (available on GitHub) After connecting your phone to your PC:
- Choose Debloat β Remove Bloatware.
- Check the MiuiDaemon, MSA (Mobile Services Ads) and Mi Browser apps.
- Press Uninstall Selected and restart your phone.
π‘
Disabling ads through ADB does not violate the warranty, but may cause some system applications (e.g. Mi Video or Mi Music) to crash.
4.Gestural adjustments for curtain control
If the curtain is intrusive due to inconvenient gestures, you can reconfigure or turn them off. The following options are available in MIUI 12-14:
- π Swipe down from the top edge β opening the curtain (you can turn off for the left / right edge separately).
- π Swipe up from the bottom edge β return to the main screen (sometimes conflicting with the curtain).
- βοΈ Double touch β unlocking the screen (may accidentally activate the curtain).
To change the gestures:
- Go to Settings β Screen β Additional settings β Full-screen gestures.
- Choose a gesture style (MIUI, Android or No gestures).
- Turn off the Swipe down option for the curtain if it interferes.
Important: on some models (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro+), turning off the gestures for the curtain leads to the inability to open it through a swipe - you will have to use the icon in the status bar.
5. Resetting curtains to factory settings
If after experiments with the curtain, it began to work incorrectly (does not open, brakes, disappeared at all), you can return it to its original state through resetting the launcher settings or a complete reset of the system.
Method 1: Reset the launcher (without data loss):
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the launcher (or MIUI Launcher).
- Select Warehouse. β Clear the data.
Method 2: Complete reset (deletes all data!):
β οΈ Warning: This method will delete all apps, photos and settings. pre-backup through Settings β The phone. β Backup.
- Go to Settings β About the phone β Reset settings.
- Choose to erase all data.
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot.

6.Alternative launchers to replace the standard curtain
If setting up a standard curtain does not give the desired result, consider installing an alternative launcher.
- π Nova Launcher β Allows you to completely turn off the curtain MIUI Use your own notification panel.
- π Lawnchair - lightweight launcher with gesture support and curtain customization.
- π± Hyperion Launcher β Optimized for the MIUI, but without advertising and extra widgets.
To install an alternative launcher:
- Download the app from Google Play.
- Go to Settings β Applications β By default β Launcher.
- Select the installed launcher and confirm the change.
After that, the MIUI curtain will be replaced with the Android notification panel, where you can flexibly configure the display of notifications and quick settings.
7. Frequent errors and their solutions
When working with the curtain on Xiaomi Redmi, users often face typical problems, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The curtain doesn't open with a swipe | Gestures disabled or launcher failure | Reset the launcher settings (see Section 5) |
| There's always adverts coming in. | MIUI Recommendations included | Disable in Settings β Notifications β Additional |
| The curtain is braking or hanging. | Overloading system processes | Clean the cache in Settings β Memory β Cleanup |
| Automatic deployment when unlocking | Customization of gestures in MIUI | Disable in Settings β Screen β Lock and Protection |
If none of the methods worked, check for system updates β newer versions of MIUI often fix curtain bugs.
- Go to Settings β About the phone β System update.
- Click Check Updates and install the latest version.
