Why do you have unnecessary recommendations on Xiaomi desktop?
The desktop of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones often capture banner ads, weather widgets, news feeds and smart tips from MIUI or HyperOS. The manufacturer positions this as a "personalized experience," but in practice users are faced with:
Intrusive advertising (banners of games, promotions, Xiaomi services);
Extra widgets (weather, calendar, steps that cannot be removed in the standard way)
Slowing down the interface due to background content loading.
The reason is simple: MIUI and HyperOS are integrated by default with Xiaomi Cloud, GetApps and partner platforms that upload content even without your consent.
Fortunately, there are ways to disable this without root rights, from hidden settings to alternative launchers, and then we'll go through all the methods, including those that work on the latest versions of the firmware (2026).
Method 1: Disable recommendations through MIUI/HyperOS settings
The most obvious method is to use the built-in options, but Xiaomi regularly moves these menu items, so the instructions depend on the firmware version:
- For MIUI 12/13: Go to Settings. β Desktop β Recommendations and turn off sliders: π± Recommended content (game and application banners); π¦οΈ Weather widget (if not needed); π° News Feed (from Xiaomi News).
For HyperOS (2026):
The way has changed: Settings β Screen β Home screen β Personalization.
- π Click "Configure recommendationsΒ»;
- π« Disable βShow recommended contentβ and βWidgetsΒ»;
- π Reboot your smartphone (sometimes changes are not immediately applied).
β οΈ Attention: Clearing the launcher data will return the desktop to its factory appearance. β Desktop β Backup layout (if option is available).
| Type of widget | Can I remove it in the standard way? | Alternative method |
|---|---|---|
| Weather (MIUI) | β No. | Disable in Settings β Screen β Widgets |
| Newsfeed | β Yes (containment) β remove) | Disable recommendations in the launcher settings |
| The steps widget (Zepp Life) | β No. | Remove the Zepp Life app or disable in Settings β Notifications β Widgets |
| Banner advertisements | β No. | Disable personalization in Settings β Xiaomi Account β Advertising |
Method 3: Use of an alternative launcher
If the system methods didn't work, the radical solution is to install a third-party launcher, which will completely replace the MIUI/HyperOS interface, removing all the imposed elements.
- π Nova Launcher is flexible, no advertising, gesture support.
- π¨ Lawnchair β open source, minimalist design, built-in ad blocking.
- π Hyperion Launcher β Optimized for Xiaomi, supports themes MIUI.
- π Before Launcher β blocks background activity of system widgets.
- Return to Settings β Memory β Clean up and remove the cache for GetApps, Mi Browser and Xiaomi News apps.
