Why does Xiaomi have ads on it and can it be removed?
Xiaomiโs MIUI-based tablets often display banner ads in system apps, notifications, and even lock screens. This is not a coincidence, but part of the companyโs business model: free software with integrated monetization. However, for many owners of Redmi Pad SE, Mi Pad 5 or other models, such โpay-per-useโ becomes an annoyance.
The good news is that 90% of ads can be removed completely without rooting rights using only regular MIUI settings and disabling unnecessary services. The bad news is that some methods require deep immersion into system settings, and after firmware updates, settings can be reset. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods, from the simplest to the most advanced, taking into account the features of the latest versions of MIUI 14/15.
It is important to understand: Advertising on Xiaomi tablets is of three types: 1) Built-in system applications (Security, Themes, Music), 2) push notifications from Mi Account services, 3) Banners in the settings menu and on the lock screen.
Each type is removed by its own method โ there is no universal โall-ad switchโ.
Method 1: Disabling personalized advertising in MIUI
The most secure and recommended method Xiaomi has is to deactivate personalized ads through your account settings, which will not remove ads completely, but will significantly reduce the number of ads and make them less intrusive.
Instructions for MIUI 14/15:
- Open Settings โ Xiaomi account (if not authorized, log in).
- Go to Mi Account โ Account Settings โ Mi Services โ Advertising.
- Turn off the slider Personalized recommendations.
- Go back and select Turn off MSA ads (if available).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some firmware for regions Europe / Russia item Disable advertising MSA In this case, move on to the following ways.
Is the slider "Personalized recommendations" disabled"|Is the tablet rebooted after the changes?|Have the banners in the โThemesโ app disappeared"|Are the push notifications missing?-->
This method works on all models, including the Redmi Pad, Pad 6 Pro and POCO Pad, but has a limitation: ads in the apps Security and Music can remain.
Method 2: Manual removal of advertising in system applications
Some Xiaomi apps (e.g. Security, Themes, Music) have their own ad settings that are independent of system-wide settings.
Instructions for key applications:
- ๐ Security Appendix: Open the Appendix โ tap the icon โ๏ธ Settings in upper right corner โ Choose About the Program โ Turn off Advertising Recommendations and Push Notifications.
- ๐จ Themes app: Go to Profile โ Settings โ Advertisements and deactivate all sliders. Also delete browsing history to reset personalization.
- ๐ต Music app: Go to Settings โ Additionally, and disable Home Screen Recommendations and Banners in Playlists.
โ ๏ธ Note: After updating apps through Google Play or Mi App Store, ad settings may be reset. It is recommended to fix app versions or use an update blocker (for example, AppBlock).
What to do if there is no "Advertising" item in the application settings?
Method 3: Blocking Advertising through ADB (no root rights)
For users ready for more technical solutions, there is a method to disable advertising through the ADB (Android Debug Bridge. It doesn't require root access, but it does require a computer and a computer. USB-cable.
Step-by-step:
- Activate Developer Mode on your tablet: Settings โ About Tablet โ MIUI version (click 7 times).
- Return to Settings โ Additional โ For developers and enable USB debugging.
- Connect the tablet to your PC, install ADB Tools and execute the commands:
adb shell pm hide com.miui.systemAdSolution
adb shell pm hide com.xiaomi.midrop
adb shell pm hide com.miui.analytics
adb shell pm hide com.miui.msa.globalThese commands disable the system services responsible for displaying ads. After you run, restart the tablet. The effect is saved until the next reset or major update of MIUI.
๐ก
If you have left the ad after completing the commands, check the list of packages through adb shell pm list packages | grep miui and disable additional services with the names ad, analytics or msa.
Method 4: Using third-party ad blockers
If system methods didnโt help, you can install specialized ad blocking apps.
| Annex | Type of lockdown | Need root? | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blokada | DNS/VPN-filtering | No. | Official website |
| AdGuard | Local VPN + filters | No. | Download |
| DNS66 | DNS-level locking | No. | F-Droid |
| LuckPatchers | Removal of system applets | Yes. | Official website |
For use of Blokada or AdGuard:
- Download APK from the official website (not from Google Play, as there are stripped down versions).
- Install by pre-allowing installation from unknown sources (Settings โ Applications โ Special Access โ Installation of Unknown Applications).
- Activate protection and select filters to block Xiaomi ads (for example, Miui Ad Block in AdGuard).
โ ๏ธ Note: LuckPatchers-type apps require root access and may disrupt the work MIUI. Use them only if other methods have not worked and you are prepared for possible consequences (e.g., resetting your tablet).

Method 5: Reset the tablet to factory settings (extreme case)
If the ad has penetrated too deeply (for example, after updating the firmware or installing suspicious applications), a complete device reset can help. This method will delete all data, so use it only after backing up.
How to Reset Xiaomi Tablet:
- Create a backup through Settings โ About Tablet โ Backup or manually copy files to your PC.
- Go to Settings โ About Tablet โ Resetting โ Delete all data.
- Choose Clean Everything and wait for the reboot.
- When you first set up, do not log in to Mi Account and do not connect to Wi-Fi before disabling ads (see Method 1).
After discharge:
- ๐ Do not update system apps through the Mi App Store โ they can return ads.
- ๐ฅ Install an ad blocker (such as AdGuard) before connecting to the internet.
- ๐ Turn off automatic updates MIUI In Settings โ About the tablet โ Updating the system โ โ๏ธ โ Auto-update.
๐ก
Factory reset removes ads by 100%, but only before you first connect to Mi Account or update your firmware. To keep the effect, combine this method with disabling services through ADB or blockers.
Method 6: Install custom firmware (for advanced)
For users willing to take drastic measures, there is an option to install custom firmware without advertising.
- ๐ฑ Xiaomi.eu โ modified MIUI Advertising and Chinese-free (supported by Redmi Pad) SE, Pad 5/6).
- ๐ค LineageOS โ โpureโ Android without branded bells and whistles Xiaomi.
- ๐ง PixelExperience โ firmware with Google Pixel interface, optimized for tablets.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Custom firmware installation: 1 Requires bootloader unlocking, which resets all data. 2 May deprive you of warranty (for new devices). 3 Carries the risk of "bricking" the tablet in case of errors.
For more detailed instructions, see the XDA Developers or 4PDA forums for your model.
If you decide to do this, follow the algorithm:
- Unlock bootloader through the official tool Xiaomi (requires to link the account to the device).
- Install TWRP Recovery for your model (for example, this version will work for Redmi Pad 2022).
- Download the firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.eu for Pad 6 here) and run through TWRP.
Method 7: Alternative methods (for specific cases)
If the standard methods didnโt work, try these niche solutions:
- ๐ Change the firmware region: Install firmware for the region EEA (Europe โ less advertising. Use Xiaomi Firmware Updater to download the correct version.
- ๐ต Blocking Domains Through Hosts: Edit the File /system/etc/hosts (requires root) or use apps like Hosts Go to block ad.mi.com, tracker.miui.com domains.
- ๐ก๏ธ Disable Google Services: If Advertising is through Google Play Services, Disable them in Settings โ Annexes โ Application management โ Google Play Services โ Disable (may disrupt some applications).
To edit hosts without root:
- Install Termux from F-Droid.
- Run the commands: pkg install nano termux-setup-storage nano /data/data/com.termux/files/home/storage/shared/Download/hosts
- Add the lines: 127.0.0.1 ad.mi.com 127.0.0.1 tracker.miui.com 127.0.0.1 sdkconfig.ad.intl.xiaomi.com
- Copy the file to /system/etc/hosts via ADB: adb push /sdcard/Download/hosts /system/etc/hosts
