Ads on the lock screen Xiaomi Redmi 9 is one of the most annoying โchipsโ of the firmware MIUI, which the manufacturer has integrated for monetization. Even after buying a smartphone, users are forced to daily observe banners, app offers and contextual advertising, which not only spoils the appearance, but also slows the unlocking of the device. Unlike flagship models, where advertising can be disabled through the settings of a premium account, owners of budget Redmi have to look for workarounds.
In this article, we will discuss 5 proven ways to remove ads, from standard MIUI settings to hidden developer settings. All methods are tested on Redmi 9 (models M2003J15SC/M2004J19G) with MIUI 12.5-14 firmware, but will also be suitable for other devices in the series (for example, Redmi 9A, 9C, 9T).
Before you start, check your firmware version in Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version. If you have a global version of MIUI installed (for example, V12.5.3.0.RJCMIXM), all settings will be available. For Chinese firmware (CN), some menu items may be missing - in this case, you will need to change the region (we will discuss this below).
1. Disabling Advertising through the standard MIUI settings
The easiest way is to use the built-in options. Xiaomi officially allows you to disable some of the ad units, but these settings are often hidden in the depths of the menu. Importantly, after updating the firmware, some parameters may be reset, so check them after each update.
Go to:
Settings โ Password and security โ Screen lock settings โ Additional settings โ AdvertisingHere you will see two main switches:
- ๐ด Recommendations โ disables banners with offers of applications and games.
- ๐ข Weather Notifications โ Removes contextual advertising masquerading as a forecast.
If you don't have Advertising on the menu, you have Chinese firmware, in which case you should first change the region to India or Russia (instructions in the next section).

After disabling the ad, restart the phone โ this will speed up the application of changes and clear the banner cache.
2. Change the system region to unlock hidden settings
Chinese versions of MIUI (marked CN in the firmware number) restrict access to ad settings. To get around this, you need to change the system region to a global one. This does not require flashing and takes less than 5 minutes.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Settings. โ Additionally. โ Region.
- Choose India (recommended) or Russia.
- Confirm the change and restart the phone.
- After turning on, check for the Advertising item in the lock settings (see Section 1).
โ ๏ธ
Warning: A change in region may result in some system applications (e.g. Mi Video or Mi Music) being reset from Google Play.
If after the change of region the advertisement remained, try to clear the cache of the System UI application:

Xiaomi uses your Mi Account data for targeted advertising, and even if you have disabled banners in your phone settings, they can come back because of synchronization with the company's servers, and to avoid this, you need to deactivate personalization in your profile.
Do the following:
- ๐ฑ Open the Mi Account app (or go to Settings) โ Xiaomi account).
- ๐ Find the Privacy or Personalization section.
- ๐ซ Turn off the options: ๐ Personalized recommendations ๐ข Promotional notices ๐ Synchronization of data use

After these actions, the ads on the lock screen should disappear within 24 hours (time depends on Xiaomi servers). If the banners remain, proceed to the next method.
4.Use of ADB-commands for deep disabling advertising
For users ready for more radical measures, there is a way to disable advertising through the Internet. ADB (Android Debug Bridge doesn't require a license. ROOT, But it would require a computer and USB-The method works on all versions of the cable. MIUI, including Chinese firmware.
Preparation:
- ๐ป Install. ADB-PC drivers.
- ๐ฑ On the phone, activate Developer Mode: Settings โ The phone. โ Version. MIUI (tap 7 times)
- ๐ Connect Redmi 9 to your computer and select File Transfer Mode.
Input commands in the terminal (in turn):
adb shell pm hide com.miui.systemAdSolutionadb shell pm hide com.xiaomi.midropadb shell pm hide com.miui.analyticsThese commands completely block the system modules responsible for displaying ads, including banners on the lock screen, in the Explorer and Xiaomi apps.
โ ๏ธ
Note: pm hide commands temporarily freeze system packages, you have to re-enter them after resetting or updating the firmware, and you need ROOT rights to permanently delete them.

5. Installation of an alternative launcher (for advanced users)
If none of these methods worked, a radical solution is to replace the standard MIUI launcher with a third-party one (like Nova Launcher or Lawnchair), which wonโt remove ads from the system notifications, but will replace the lock screen with a clean one, without banners.
How it works:
- ๐ฅ Install an alternative launcher from Google Play.
- ๐ง In the launcher settings, find the option โReplace the lock screenโ (for example, in Nova Launcher Prime, this is done through the Nova Lockscreen plugin).
- ๐จ Customize the appearance for yourself - without advertising and unnecessary widgets.
Cons of the method:
| Pluses | Cons |
|---|---|
| Complete control over the appearance | Does not remove system notifications-advertising |
| It works on any firmware. | Requires the purchase of a premium version of the launcher |
| Additional functions (gestures, themes) | Can be in conflict with system updates |
๐ก
An alternative launcher is the only way to completely eliminate ads on the lock screen if other methods have not worked, but this does not eliminate the need to disable system banners through the MIUI settings.
What if the advertisements returned after the update?
After installing the new version of MIUI, all ad settings are reset.
- ๐ต Turn off automatic updates in Settings โ The phone. โ Updating the system โ Three points (โฎ) โ Settings โ Auto-update.
- ๐ Before manually updating, back up your current settings through Settings. โ Additionally. โ Backup and reset.
- ๐ง After the update, repeat all the steps from Section 1 and 3 (settings). MIUI and Mi-account).
If the advertisement appears again, check:
