Xiaomi smartphones have long won the love of users due to the combination of powerful hardware and democratic price. However, many owners are faced with one unpleasant feature of the corporate shell. MIUI — Intrusive advertising: Banners in system applications, push notifications about “beneficial offers”, ad units in the settings menu – all this spoils the impression of the device. 13/14 or Redmi Note 12.
In this article, we’ll look at all the ways you can disable ads, from standard MIUI settings to radical root-rights methods, how to remove ads in Browser, Weather, Music and other system applications, and what to do if ads return after updates. Importantly, some methods require caution — wrong actions can lead to malfunctions in your smartphone.
Before you start, check your firmware version in Settings → About Phone → MIUI version. The relevance of the methods depends on the regional firmware (Global, EEA, China) and the shell version. For example, in MIUI 14/15, some of the advertising mechanisms have been reworked, so the old instructions may not work.
1. disable personalized advertising in MIUI settings
The safest and most official way is to disable data collection for targeted advertising, which won’t remove all banners, but will significantly reduce their number, and the action is the same for most models: Poco X5, Redmi 12, Xiaomi 13 Lite and others.
Go to: Settings → Google → Advertising (or Settings → Additional → Privacy → Advertising in older versions of MIUI).
Turn off the Personalized Ads option here and reset the Ads Identifier, which will prevent Xiaomi and Google from using your data to serve targeted ads.
- 🔹 Disadvantages of the method: does not remove system advertising in Mi Browser, Mi Video or Themes applications.
- 🔹 Plus: does not require root rights and works on all firmware, including MIUI Global.
- 🔹 Additionally: Reboot your phone after shutdown, which will speed up the application of changes.
⚠️ Attention: In firmware for China (MIUI China) the path to ad settings may differ. If Google points → No advertising, use the search by settings (magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner).
2. Manual disabling of advertising in system applications
Many of Xiaomi’s standard apps have built-in ad modules that can be manually disabled.
| Annex | The path to settings | What to turn off |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Browser | Browser settings → Additional → Advertising | “Show recommendations” and “Personalized advertising” |
| Mi Video | Profile → Settings → Advertising | “Recommendations” and “Push Notifications” |
| Themes | Profile → Settings → Notifications | “Advertising Notices” and “Submissions to the Topics” |
| Mi Music | Settings → Additional → Advertising | "Show banners" and "Playlist recommendations" |
For the Cleaner app, the path will be: Settings → Cleanup → Settings → Advertising → Turn off all sliders. In Mi Security, you can turn off ads in Settings → Additional → Notifications.
Important: In MIUI 14+, some menu items are hidden. If you don’t find Ads in the app’s settings, try resetting it to Settings → Apps → App Management → [Select App] → Storage → Clear data. This will reset all the app’s settings, but often returns hidden options.
Open the settings of the problem application
Find the section "Advertising" or "Notifications"
Disable all sliders associated with recommendations
Clear the application cache (optional)
Reboot the phone-->
3.Use of ADB-commands for deep disabling advertising
If manual settings don’t work, you can use ADB (Android Debug Bridge), a tool for debugging Android, which removes advertising packages at the system level, but requires connecting the phone to a PC.
First, turn on the developer mode: Settings → About Phone → MIUI version (click 7 times in a row).
Then activate USB Debugging in Settings → Additional → For Developers.
Install. ADB-drivers on PC, connect the phone and execute in the command line:
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolution
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.xiaomi.midrop
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.analytics
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.bugreport
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.cloudservice
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.cloudbackup
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.xiaomi.joyoseThese commands remove the system services responsible for collecting analytics and displaying ads. After completing, restart your phone. If a command fails (Filure error), skip it, which means that the package has already been deleted or is missing from your firmware.
⚠️ Note: Deleting system packages may disrupt some features (such as Mi Cloud or Quick Share). → Additionally. → Backup and reset.

4. Installation of alternative firmware (Custom ROM)
If you're annoyed not only by advertising, but also by the overall design of MIUI, the radical solution is to install custom Android firmware without Xiaomi's branded add-ons.
- 📱 Pixel Experience – pure Android with support for Google services.
- 📱 LineageOS - light firmware without unnecessary applications.
- 📱 Xiaomi.EU – modified MIUI Advertising-free and Chinese-based.
- 📱 ArrowOS – firmware with a focus on performance.
The installation process requires unlocking the bootloader and using TWRP. Detailed instructions for your model are available on the XDA Developers forum. For example, for the Redmi Note 11, the path will be:
- Unlock the bootloader via Mi Unlock Tool (requires Xiaomi account and wait 7 days).
- Install TWRP Recovery via fastboot flash recovery twrp.img.
- Download firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.EU) and transfer it to your phone.
- Load in TWRP (Loudness+ + Meals) and sew ZIP-file.
Custom firmware has the advantage of having no advertising and the ability to fine-tune Android, but there are also risks: loss of warranty, possible bugs with the camera or sensors, and the need for manual updates.
💡
Before installing custom firmware, check its compatibility with your model on the Xiaomi.EU website. For example, the firmware for the Poco X3 NFC (surya) is not suitable for the Poco X3 Pro (vayu).
5. Disabling Advertising through root access (Magisk)
If you're willing to take drastic measures, getting root rights will give you access to deep cleaning.
- Unlock the bootloader (as in the previous section).
- Install Magisk via TWRP or patch boot.img.
- Install modules for blocking advertising: 🛡️ AdAway – Blocks Advertising Domains at System Level. 🛡️ Displax’s MIUI Mod – removes advertising lines from the MIUI. 🛡️ Universal AdBlock – Blocks banners in apps.
After installing Magisk, download modules through Magisk Manager → Downloads and activate them. For example, Displax’s MIUI Mod removes ads from:
- 📱 System notifications.
- 📱 Settings menu.
- 📱 Applications Themes, Cleaner, Security.
⚠️ Attention: Root access violates system security - some banking applications (e.g. Sberbank Online or Tinkoff) may stop working.
💡
Root access gives you maximum control over the system, but it's not warranty-free and can cause security problems. Use it only if other methods have not worked.
6.Alternative methods: DNS, VPN and third-party applications
If you do not want to interfere with system settings, you can block advertising at the network level:
- 🌐 Change. DNS: Use 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 9.9.9.9.9 (Quad9) In Settings → Wi-Fi → Additionally. → Settings DNS. This blocks some of the advertising domains.
- 🔒 VPN Ad-blocking: Apps like AdGuard VPN Blokada filters traffic and removes banners.
- 📵 Third-party launchers: Install Nova Launcher or Lawnchair – they will replace the standard interface MIUI publicity.
To block push notifications from Xiaomi: Settings → Notifications → Notification Management → find MiuiDaemon, Analytics apps and turn off notifications for them.
Another effective method is to disable auto-update system applications. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management → [Select App] → Threefold → Disable Auto-Update. This will prevent the ad modules from returning after the updates.
7 What to do if the ad returns after the MIUI update
After major updates (e.g., from MIUI 13 to MIUI 14), ads may reappear, because Xiaomi restores the remote system packages to prevent the ad from returning:
- Turn off automatic MIUI update: Settings → About Phone → System Update → Three-point → Settings → Auto Update → Turn off.
- Use the MIUI Bloater Remover Magisk module to prevent recovery of deleted packets.
- Check your app settings regularly: After updates, some options (such as those in Mi Browser) may be reset.
If the ad does come back, repeat the steps from Section 3 (ADB) or Section 5 (Magisk) as a last resort, you can roll back to the previous version of MIUI via Fastboot, but it is risky and requires experience.
