Many Xiaomi and Redmi smartphone users are faced with news, articles and promotional offers suddenly appearing on a locked screen, a feature known as Wallpaper Carousel or Glance, often activated by default when the device is first turned on, designed to entertain the owner while he is not using the phone, but in practice often annoys, consumes traffic and drains the battery.
Disabling this feature does not require deep knowledge or root access rights. However, the location of the switches you need may vary depending on the version of the MIUI firmware or the new HyperOS. In this article, we will discuss in detail all ways to remove the intrusive view so that your lock screen is clean and functional again.
What is a Wallpaper Carousel and Why It Turns On
The feature, commonly referred to as the “overview,” is technically a wallpaper carousel service (or Glance for Mi in global versions), a system application that downloads content from the Internet and displays it on top of a standard lock screen, with the main goal of developers being to retain user attention and monetize through advertising integrations.
Often users do not notice how to activate this option. When you initially set up a new Xiaomi smartphone, the system suggests you choose a theme, and one of the menu items already ticks the “Enable Wallpaper Carousel”. If you flip through this moment inattentively, the function will turn on automatically, and the firmware update can return the default settings by reactivating the service.
The difference between a live wallpaper and a carousel is a live wallpaper that doesn't change content or require the Internet, and the carousel keeps updating pictures, news headlines and widgets, putting additional strain on the device's processor and communication module.
Disconnection through lock screen settings
The easiest and most appropriate way to remove the review is to use the regular system settings menu, which works on most current versions of MIUI 12, 13, 14 and HyperOS shells. You don't need third-party programs, just find the right item in the system menu.
First, unlock the device and go to the main menu, find the Settings icon and open it. Then the algorithm may vary slightly, but the general logic is maintained. You need to find the section that deals with the appearance of the locked state.
In the settings that open, look for the Lock Screen. Inside this menu, there's a switch called Wallpaper Carousel or Glance for Mi. Turn the slider to Off. The system can request confirmation of action or suggest that you leave the function on -- agree to shut down.

What happens if you disable system applications?
Customization of personalization and recommendations
Even after the main feature is disabled, tails can remain in the system in the form of personalized recommendations. Xiaomi actively collects usage data to offer relevant content. To (cardinally) remove the traces of the review, you need to revoke consent to use the data.
