Night mode on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is a useful feature for protecting vision, but sometimes it works incorrectly or simply interferes. For example, the screen can turn yellow at the wrong time, automatically turn on in low light or even get stuck in night mode after the MIUI update. If you encounter a similar problem, this article will help to return the natural colors of the display in 2-3 minutes.
We’ll look at all the ways you can turn off, from basic settings to hidden developer settings. Instructions are relevant for the Redmi Note 12/11/10/9, Redmi A2/A1, POCO X5/X4 and other models on MIUI 14/13/12. If your smartphone is running on HyperOS, there’s a separate section at the end of the article with nuances for the new shell.
Before you start, make sure that the problem is not due to a hardware defect in the screen (for example, after a fall or moisture). If the yellowness persists even after resetting, this is an occasion to contact the service center.
1. Disable night mode through the notification panel
The quickest way is to use the Quick Settings Panel, which is suitable if the night mode is switched on accidentally or you want to temporarily deactivate it.
Steps:
- 📱 Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- 🌙 Find the Night Mode icon (moon with stars) – it can be hidden under the button “More» (⋯).
- 🔘 If you tap the icon once to turn off mode, if the icon is illuminated in blue, the function is active.
💡
On some Redmi models, the night mode icon is called Eye Protection or Eye Comfort.
If the icons are not in the panel:
- Press the pencil (✏️) top-right corner of the panel.
- Find the “Night Mode” list and drag it to the active area.
- Save the changes.
⚠️ Attention: Redmi with AMOLED-screens (for example, Note 12 Pro)+) night mode can automatically turn on at low brightness level, in which case, turn it off via the screen settings (see next section).
2.Screen settings: complete shutdown of vision protection
If the night mode is on by itself, the automatic vision protection feature is likely activated, and it needs to be manually disabled.
Instructions:
- Open the Settings → Screen.
- Select Night Mode or Vision Protection (name depends on MIUI version).
- Move the slider to the "off" position.
- Turn off the option “Schedule Automatic Enablement” (if it is active).
Main switch disabled | Deactivated schedule | Reset color temperature (if any) | Screen brightness checked-->
Some firmware (MIUI 12 and older) have an additional setting, color temperature, if the screen remains yellowish even after the night mode is turned off:
- 🎨 In the menu "Night mode" find the slider "Temperature».
- 🔄 Move it to the extreme left position (cold tones).
- 🔍 Check if the Adaptive Brightness function is activated – it can affect color reproduction.
| MIUI version | The path to settings | Additional options |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 14 / HyperOS | Settings → Screen → Protection of vision | Schedule, color temperature, exceptions for applications |
| MIUI 12–13 | Settings → Screen → Night mode | Automatic turn on, manual time setting |
| MIUI 11 and below | Settings → Display → Night mode | Only manual control |
3. Resetting screen settings to factory
If the night mode doesn't turn off through the menu, the system settings may have gone wrong, and then resetting the screen will help, and it will return color reproduction, brightness and other parameters to factory values.
How to do this:
- Go to Settings → System → Resetting settings.
- Select Reset Screen Settings (not to be confused with a full reset!).
- Confirm the action with a password or pattern lock.
- Reboot your smartphone.
What will happen after this operation?
⚠️ Attention: Redmi with OLED-screens (e.g., screens, K50 Pro) after reset, it may be necessary to recalibrate the colors in the Settings menu → Screen. → Color mode.
If the reset didn’t work, check if third-party vision protection apps (such as Twilight or Night Shift) are installed.
Always |Only at night |Rarely |Never-->
4. Disconnection through Developer Modes
In rare cases, night mode gets stuck due to a system services failure, which can be fixed through the developer menu.
Steps:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings → About Phone. Tap 7 times on MIUI Version. Enter your password if you need to.
Additional settings → Developer parameters
Turn off vision protection
Reset screen adaptation
Reset the device.
If the developer’s options don’t have a direct option to turn off night mode, try:
- 🔧 Insert “Debugging by” USB» and connect the smartphone to the PC.
- 💻 Through ADB The command is: adb shell settings put secure night_display_activated 0
- 🔄 Reset the device.
💡
The ADB method is suitable for power users. Wrong commands can disrupt the system!
5. Problems after MIUI update: what to do?
Many Redmi users encounter a bug where the MIUI update automatically turns on the night mode and does not turn off, due to the conflict between the old settings and the new firmware.
Decisions:
- 🔄 Restart Safe Mode: Press the power button before the menu appears. Tap and hold "Switch off» → Select Safe Mode. Check if the problem persists. If it doesn't, it's the third-party app's fault.
- 📥 Cleaning the system cache: Go to Settings → Annexes → App management. Put three points on the top (⋯) → «Show system. Find "Settings" and clear the cache.
Manual time reset:
Sometimes night mode is triggered due to incorrect time data. Go to Settings → Additional → Date and time and:
- Turn off Autodetermination.
- Manually set the correct time and date.
- Turn on the automatic definition back.
On the Redmi Note 11 and POCO X3 Pro with MIUI 13.0.4+, there is a bug in which night mode is activated when you connect to certain Bluetooth devices (for example, headphones Xiaomi Buds), the solution is to disable the option “Automatic Vision Protection” in the Bluetooth accessory settings.
6. Night mode on HyperOS: features of the new shell
In 2026, Xiaomi began the transition to a new HyperOS shell, which will replace MIUI. In it, the night mode menu is postponed, and some options work differently.
How to turn off on HyperOS:
- Open the settings → Display and brightness.
- Select “Vision Protection” (an icon with an eye).
- Turn off the slider at the top of the screen.
- Slip "Schedule" and select "Never."
Differences from MIUI:
- 🔹 There is no separate item "Night mode" - everything is combined into "Vision Protection».
- 🔹 Added the option “Adaptive protection”, which automatically adjusts the color temperature depending on the lighting.
- 🔹 In the developer’s parameters, a new section “Color profile” appeared, where you can reset the screen settings.
If the screen is yellow after the HyperOS update, try:
- Turn off "Adaptive Brightness" in the display settings.
- Reset screen settings through Settings → System → Reset settings → Reset display settings.
- Manually set the sRGB color profile (in the Color Mode menu).
7. Hardware causes of screen yellowness
If neither of these methods worked, the problem could be physical damage to the screen or factory defects.
- 🔋 Defect of lighting - characteristic of Redmi with AMOLED-displays (e.g. Note 10 Pro) manifests as uniform yellowness across the screen.
- 💧 Moisture intrusion - even after drying, oxides can remain, affecting color reproduction.
- 🔨 Damage to the plume - after falling or repairing.
- 🔬 Marriage of the Matrix - some Redmi parties 9A redmi A1 They suffered from a “yellowish” hue from the factory.
How to check:
- 🔍 Look at the screen from different angles. If the yellowness gets worse when you tilt it's a matrix defect.
- 📸 Take another picture of the screen, if you see yellow, it's a hardware problem.
- 🔄 Switch to Safe Mode (see Section 5). If the yellowness remains, the iron is to blame».
⚠️ Attention: Redmi with IPS-screens (e.g. Redmi) 9C) yellowness may occur due to wear of the backlight after 2-3 years of use, in which case only replacing the display module will help.
