Why does the lock screen Xiaomi display Moscow time?

Many Xiaomi smartphone users are facing a sudden appearance of Moscow time on the lock screen, even if their real location is another region or country, a problem that arises from the peculiarities of MIUI, Xiaomi’s proprietary shell, which automatically synchronizes time with the company’s servers, most often after updating firmware, resetting settings or activating geolocation services.

It is important to understand that Moscow time on the lock screen is not a system error, but a consequence of binding to Russian time synchronization servers (NTP). Even if you are in Kazakhstan, Belarus or Ukraine, the smartphone can continue to show MSK+0 due to the default settings. Fortunately, you can fix this in several ways, from simple changes in settings to manual editing of system parameters.

In this article, we will discuss all the current methods of removing Moscow time from the lock screen for devices on MIUI 12, MIUI 13 and MIUI 14, including the Redmi Note 10/11/12, POCO X3/X4/X5, Xiaomi 11T/12/13 and others. Method 1: Changing the time zone in the system settings

The most obvious and safe method is to manually change the time zone, which is suitable for most users and does not require super-user rights.

1. Open the Settings app (cog icon).
2. Go to the section Additional → Date and time.
3. Turn off the option Automatic time zone determination.
4. Click on the Time Zone bar and select your region manually (e.g. Europe/Kiev, Asia/Almaty or Europe/Minsk).
5. Return to the main screen and check the time display on the lock.

If Moscow time is still displayed after these actions, then the problem lies deeper in the MIUI synchronization settings.

Method 2: Disable time synchronization with Xiaomi servers

1. Open the Settings. → SIM-maps and mobile networks.

3. Confirm the action and restart the smartphone.
