Why Xiaomi Redmi flashlights on a call and how to fix it
Have you ever been in the awkward situation of a flashlight suddenly turning on on your Xiaomi Redmi during an important call? This feature, designed to be convenient in the dark, often becomes a source of irritation โ especially if you are in a public place or at a business meeting. Turning on the flashlight when you call in / out is a standard option in MIUI firmware, but not all users know how to turn it off correctly.
Complicating the problem is that different MIUI versions (12 to 14+) and different Redmi models (Note 10/11/12, 9A/9C, K50, etc.) may have different paths to customization. Moreover, after system updates, menus are sometimes moved and item names change. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to turn off the flashlight when you call, from standard settings to hidden functions and third-party utilities. You will also learn why this option exists and in which cases it is better to leave it on.
Method 1: Disconnect via call settings (standard method)
The most obvious and safe way to do this is to use the phoneโs built-in settings. It works on most Xiaomi Redmi models with MIUI 12-14, but may not be available on some budget devices (e.g. Redmi 9A or Redmi 8).
- Open the Phone app (the tube icon on the home screen).
- Press three points (โฎ) in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- Go to Calls or Additional Settings (the name may be different).
- Find the flashlight option when calling, call backlight or notification flash and turn off the slider.
If there is no such item, try an alternative path:
- ๐ฑ Settings โ Annexes โ Phone. โ Notifications โ Additionally.
- ๐ฆ Settings โ Special facilities โ Rumor โ Visual notifications
โ๏ธ What to do if the option is not displayed
Important: On some firmware (for example, MIUI Global for the European market), this function can be hidden. โ2 or โ3.
Method 2: Use of Do Not Disturb (Backway)
If the standard shutdown didnโt work, the other way to do that is to set up the Do Not Disturb mode so that it blocks all visual notifications, including the flashlight, which is suitable for the Redmi Note 10/11 Pro, Xiaomi 12T and other MIUI 13+ models.
Instructions:
- Open Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Do not disturb.
- Select the Schedule or Rules (depending on version).
- Create a new rule with the condition of the call.
- In the Visual Notifications section, turn off Flash and Screen.
- Save the rule and activate it.
| Model phone | Does the method support | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G | โ Yes. | It is operated by MIUI 14 Global. |
| Redmi 10C | โ Yes. | Upgrade to MIUI 13.0.5+ is required |
| Redmi 9T | โ ๏ธ Partially. | The flashlight turns off, but it can work when you call again. |
| POCO X3 Pro | โ Yes. | Path: Settings โ Notifications โ Additional |
๐ก
If the flashlight still works after applying the rule, try adding the Phone app to the Do Not Disturb mode exception list, and then turning off visual notifications again.
Method 3: Disable via hidden MIUI settings (for advanced)
MIUI has hidden engineering menus where you can turn off many system functions, including the flashlight when you call, a method that requires caution because doing the wrong thing can disrupt your phone. On models with MIUI 14 and later, this method may not work due to security limitations.
Steps:
- Open the Phone app and dial the combination: ##6484## (code for sensor testing).
- In the menu that appears, look for the Flashlight Test or Torch section.
- Turn off the Auto Flash on Call option (if any).
- Reboot the phone.
โ ๏ธ Note: Not all codes work on new versions MIUI. If nothing happens after you enter the combination, your firmware blocks access to the engineering menu.
The alternative is to use ADB-commands (requires a computer and enabled debugging on the USB):
adb shell settings put global flashlight_on_call_enabled 0What if the ADB does not recognize the command?
Method 4: Third-party applications for flashlight control
If system methods didn't work, you can use third-party tools from Google Play, which allow you to flexibly adjust the behavior of the flashlight, including turning it off when you call.
- ๐ฆ Flash Alerts 2 โ allows you to turn off the flashlight for specific applications (including Phone").
- ๐ฑ MacroDroid โ Creates automatic rules to turn off the flashlight when an incoming call.
- ๐ ๏ธ Tasker โ Advanced Automation Tool (Requires customization skills).
Example of settings in MacroDroid:
- Create a new macro.
- As a trigger, select the phone โ incoming call.
- Add the action Turn off the flashlight.
- Save and activate the macro.
โ ๏ธ Note: Some applications require permission to access notifications and special features. Grant rights only to proven high-rated utilities.
Method 5: Reset the settings of the Phone application (extreme case)
If the flashlight is turned on because of a malfunction in the Phone app, you can return its settings to factory settings. This will not delete your contacts or call history, but will reset all user settings (including tone signals, vibration, etc.).
How to do this:
- Go to Settings โ Applications โ Application Management.
- Find the Phone app and open its settings.
- Click Warehouse โ Clear the data (NOT โCache Clearโ).
- Confirm the action and restart the phone.
After the reset, check if there is a problem. If the flashlight no longer turns on, it means that the application configuration has failed, otherwise it may be a firmware or hardware malfunction (for example, a flashlight contacts closing).
๐ก
Resetting the phone app is a last resort, so try all other ways before you use it and back up your important data.
Why the flashlight can turn on on on its own (and how to prevent it)
Sometimes the flashlight doesn't work because of the settings, but because of other reasons.
- ๐ Firmware failure: After update MIUI Some features may not work properly, so the solution is to roll back to the previous version or wait for the patch.
- ๐ฑ Application conflict: Some programs (like Truecaller or WhatsApp) can control a flashlight.
- ๐ Hardware problem: If the flashlight is switched on arbitrarily (not only when calling), the flash module or the plume may be faulty.
- ๐ ๏ธ Castom firmware: On informal builds (such as LineageOS or Pixel Experience), the flashlight function may be implemented differently when ringing.
To diagnose the problem:
- Launch your phone in Safe Mode (press the power button โ Safe Mode) If the flashlight doesn't turn on, the third-party app is to blame.
- Check the error log through Settings โ About Phone โ Error Report.
- Install the CPU Monitor or Device Info app to track sensor activity.
