Why Xiaomi TVs may not have Russian as default
Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV, Redmi TV, Mi TV A, Mi TV P1 and others) are officially delivered to Russia with pre-installed Russification, but there are several scenarios when the interface is displayed in a foreign language. First, these are models purchased from foreign online stores (AliExpress, Gearbest, Banggood), where the firmware is adapted to the Asian or European market. Second, even in official Russian versions, after resetting or updating the firmware, the language may be lost to English or Chinese.
It is important to understand that the problem is not always solved by simply choosing a language on the menu. For example, in the firmware for the Mi TV 4A/4C (2018-2019), Russian localization may not be on the list of available languages due to regional restrictions. In such cases, you will either need to manually install the language package or completely reflash the device. Next, we will discuss all possible methods, from basic to advanced, and explain how to avoid typical errors.
Method 1: Standard language change via the settings menu
If Russian is present in the system, but simply not selected by default, it can be activated in a few steps, which works for most models of Xiaomi Mi TV and Redmi TV (2020 and later), as well as devices with the firmware MIUI TV version 3.0 and higher.
Instructions:
- ๐บ Turn on the TV and press the Settings button on the remote).
- ๐ Go to the Preferences section โ Language & Region (or Settings) โ Language and region if the current language is understood).
- ๐ In the list of languages, find Russian and select it. If there is no language, see the following methods.
- ๐ Confirm the change and wait for the TV to restart (may take up to 1 minute).
If after changing the language, some menu items remain in English (for example, Network Settings or Display Mode), this is normal - not all system notifications are fully translated.
๐ก
If the list of languages includes "Russian (Russia)" and "Russian (Ukraine)", choose the first option - it contains full localization for the Russian market.
Method 2: Manually adding Russian through localization files
Xiaomi TVs older than 2019 (e.g. Mi) TV 4S 55" or Mi" TV 4A 32) Russian may not be on the list due to outdated firmware, in which case it can be added manually by downloading the language package on the USB-This method requires caution, as incorrect files can cause the system to crash.
What you need:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ USB-flash-drive (FAT32, 32GB).
- ๐ Archive with Russian language for your model (you can download on the forums) 4PDA Xiaomi Community).
- ๐ Unconnected TV (to avoid automatic updates).
Step-by-step:
- Download the archive with localization (for example, ru_RU.zip) And unpack it on a flash drive in a folder miui (create it if not).
- Connect the flash drive to USB-television-port.
- Go to Settings โ About TV โ System Update โ Local Update.
- Select the localization file and confirm the installation. The TV will restart.

Attention! Not all language packages are firmware compatible. If the TV hangs on the Xiaomi logo after installation, reset to factory settings (Reset button on the back or via Settings โ Reset).
Method 3: Updating the firmware to the Russian version
If your Xiaomi TV is released before 2020 (for example, Mi TV 4 55" or Mi TV 4X 65"), chances are that Russian localization only appeared in newer versions of the firmware, in which case an update via the Internet or local firmware will help.
How to update via the Internet:
- Connect the TV to the Wi-Fi network.
- Go to Settings โ About โ System Update.
- Click Check for Updates and wait for the latest version to load.
- After installation, check the presence of Russian in the settings.
If automatic updates donโt work, download the official firmware for your model from Xiaomi or 4PDA and install it via Local Update (similar to Method 2).

Critical information: On Xiaomi TVs with an Amlogic processor (such as the Mi TV 4A 2018), Russification via firmware can lead to the loss of Netflix and Prime Video features due to a change in regional code.
Method 4: Resetting to factory settings (if language is lost)
If the Russian language used to work but disappeared after an update or crash, a complete reset will help, which will return the TV to a store-like state, but will delete all installed apps and accounts.
How to perform the reset:
- ๐ง Go to Settings. โ On TV. โ Resetting settings.
- ๐ Enter. PIN-code (default 0000 or 1234).
- โ ๏ธ Confirm the action โ the TV will restart and start the initial setup.
- ๐ At the stage of language selection, specify Russian.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some models (e.g. Mi) TV 4 Pro) a reset may block access to Google Play due to a region change, in which case you will need to re-assign your Xiaomi account.
Problem Solving: What to do if Russian is not on the list
If none of the methods helped, and the Russian language is still not available, the reasons may be as follows:
- For example, the TV is bought in China or Europe, where Russian localization is not provided, so that you can install a multi-zone firmware (risky, can cancel the warranty).
- Hardware restrictions: Some budget models (e.g. Mi TV 4A 32" for India) do not have Russian at the iron level, so you can use a remote with Russian stickers or an external media player (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Box).
- Damaged system files: If the TV was previously streamed by unofficial methods, language packets could be deleted, so you can reflash the device with official firmware via Fastboot (requires a PC).
For advanced users, there is a method of manual editing of the build.prop file through ADB, But it is only suitable for Android models. TV (Like Mi. TV Stick or Mi Box. For the regular Mi TV This way doesn't work.

Alternative solutions: if Russification is not possible
If you can not translate the interface into Russian, consider the following options:
- ๐ฎ Use a game console (such as Xbox or PlayStation) with a Russian interface and connect it to the TV through the HDMI.
- ๐บ Connect media player (Xiaomi Mi Box S, Nvidia Shield) โ its interface will be in Russian, and the TV will become just a screen.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Configure the switching of inputs through the remote: assign Russian names for buttons (for example, stickers "Netflix", "YouTube").
- ๐ Install a browser (like Google Chrome) and use web versions of services with Google Translate translation.
For models without Russian (such as Mi TV 4X for India), some users install custom launchers like ATV Launcher or HalLauncher, which support Russification, but this requires unlocking the bootloader and may be unwarranted.
๐ก
If the TV is purchased in the official Russian store Xiaomi, but there is no Russian language โ contact the support service under warranty. This is a sign of incorrect firmware, and you are obliged to reflash the device for free.
