Why do I need a Google account on a Xiaomi smartphone?
Creating a Google account on a Xiaomi phone is not just a formality, but the key to making the device fully usable. Without it, you won’t be able to download apps from the Play Market, sync contacts, photos, or use Google Drive for backup. Moreover, many of the system features of MIUI (Xiaomi firmware) require authorization through Google to work properly.
It is especially important to start an account immediately after you buy a phone. For example, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ or Xiaomi 13T models offer to log in to an existing profile or create a new one when you first turn on. If you skip this step, you can later have problems installing applications or updating the system. And for owners of Android 14 devices (for example, Xiaomi 14), Google account has become a prerequisite for activating some security features.

Preparing Xiaomi phone for registration
Before you create a Google account, make sure your smartphone is ready for the procedure.
- 📶 Internet connection. Registration requires a stable connection. It is better to use Wi-Fi, because mobile Internet can be interrupted at the most critical moment.
- 🔋 Battery charge. Make sure the charge level is at least 30%.Some Xiaomi models (e.g., Xiaomi models, POCO X5 Pro) automatically block long-term operations at low charge.
- 📱 Update MIUI. Go to Settings. → The phone. → Update the system and install the latest patches, which will eliminate possible bugs when registering.

If you see a message saying, "This device has been reset. To continue, log in to the account that was previously used on it," it means that the phone is linked to the previous owner via Mi Account, in which case you should contact the former owner of the device and ask him to delete the link via account.xiaomi.com.

If Google asks you to enter your credit card details when you sign up, skip this step. This is not a prerequisite, but only an offer to set up Google Pay.
How to Link a Google Account to Xiaomi After Registration
