Xiaomi’s locked screen is not only a protection from prying eyes, but also a potential privacy hole. Even when the device is locked, it displays notifications by default: messages from messengers, alerts about missed calls, reminders from the calendar. For many users, this is convenient, but what if you don’t want someone to accidentally see the contents of your correspondence or work emails?
In this article, we will analyze all the current ways to hide notifications on the lock screen for Xiaomi, Redmi and smartphones. Why Blocked Notifications Are Dangerous to Privacy
At first glance, notifications on a locked screen seem harmless, but they can reveal:

According to a Kaspersky study (2023), 37 percent of sensitive data breaches are due to accidental access to unlocked or locked smartphone screens, and MIUI defaults to displaying full notifications, which increases the risk, and even if you use a pattern lock or fingerprint, the contents of the lock screen remain visible to anyone who picks up the phone.

Method 1: Disable notifications via standard MIUI settings
The easiest method is to use the built-in system options, which is suitable for most models, including the Xiaomi 13, Redmi 12 and POCO F5.
- Open Settings → Notifications and Status bar.
- Go to the Notifications section on the lock screen.
- Choose one of the options: 🔒 Show icons – only application icons without text will be displayed. 🚫 Do not show notifications – the lock screen will be completely clean. 📄 Display content (by default) – the full text of notifications is displayed.
If you only need to hide notifications for certain apps, go back to Notifications and Status bar, select an app (like Viber or Gmail) and turn off the Show on Lock screen option.

On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 13 Global), the path may be slightly different: Settings → Applications → Application Management → [Select App] → Notifications → Lock screen.
Method 2: Hidden MIUI settings (without root)
MIUI has hidden options that allow you to manage notifications more flexibly.
- Open the Phone app and enter the combination: ##6484## This will open the MIUI Hidden Settings menu.
- Go to Notification Settings (Notification Settings)
- Find the Lockscreen notifications option and select: 🔍 Hide sensitive content – hides the text of notifications, leaving only icons. 🚫 Disable completely – completely disables notifications on the lock.
This method works on most devices with MIUI 12-14, but may not be available on some regional firmware (e.g. MIUI EU).If the combination does not work, try an alternative method:
- Install QuickShortcutMaker from Google Play.
- Search com.android.settings and select Notification settings for apps.
- This will open an extended notification management menu where you can configure the display on lock for each application separately.

Method 3: Using Incognito mode for messengers
Some apps (e.g. Telegram, WhatsApp, Viber) have built-in notification hiding features, which allows you to leave alerts on lock, but hide their content.

Note that even if you have hidden the notification text in the application itself, MIUI can ignore these settings and display content on the lock, in which case system settings (see Method 1) take precedence.

Method 4: Disabling notifications for system applications
In addition to messengers, the lock screen can display notifications from system services such as Mi Cloud, Security, Cleaner and others.
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- In the top menu, select System Applications (may be called All Apps).
- Find an app (such as Mi Cloud) and open its settings.
- Select Notifications → Lock screen and turn off the option.
If neither of these methods worked, the problem could be custom firmware or regional restrictions, such as some versions of MIUI for India lacking the option to hide notifications, in which case only flashing to a global or European version will help.
