Notifications on a lock screen or status bar are convenient, but sometimes they become a source of awkward situations: Imagine you are sitting in a meeting and a message from a messenger with compromising text suddenly flashes on the screen. Or a colleague accidentally saw the contents of an SMS from a bank while you showed a photo. Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones based on MIUI offer several layers of protection for notification privacy, from basic text hiding to completely disabling previews for individual applications.
In this article, we will look at all the ways you can hide the content of notifications, from standard settings to hidden features that are not written about in the official instructions. ADB-commands for advanced users, and bypass restrictions MIUI, If they interfere with your privacy, we will pay special attention to the differences between the versions of the shell (MIUI 14, MIUI 13 and older), as the interface and location of options may be radically different.
Important: Some methods require unlocking the bootloader or the superuser rights, and if you're not prepared for this manipulation, focus on the first three ways that work out of the box.
1. Basic privacy settings in MIUI
To start with, the simplest of them are built-in options that are available without any further manipulation, and even if youβve never delved into Xiaomiβs settings, the steps will take less than a minute.
Open Settings β Notifications and Status bar β Notification privacy. Here you will see three key switches:
- π Hiding the contents of notifications on the lock screen is the most obvious option. Once activated, only the name of the application will appear instead of the text of the messages (for example, "WhatsApp" instead of "Hi! How are you?").
- ποΈ Show notifications only when unlocked β notifications wonβt be visible until you unlock your phone with a fingerprint, PIN-code-key.
- π± Hide sensitive notifications β MIUI automatically detects βsensitiveβ messages (e.g. from banks) and hides their contents.
Note: on some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro or X-rays). POCO F5) Privacy Notifications may be on the Settings path β PapaSSWORD & SECURITY β Privacy. It depends on the version. MIUI and regional firmware.
β οΈ Note: If notifications stop showing after activating these options, check the settings of individual applications (for this in the next section). MIUI.
2. Set up notifications for individual applications
System settings hide the content of all notifications the same way, but what if you only have to hide the text in Viber or SberBank Online and leave the rest of the messages visible?
Instructions:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Select the app you want (such as WhatsApp).
- Put it on the Notifications.
- Turn off the Show notifications switch on the lock screen or select Hide content (if available).
On some versions of MIUI 14, the path may be different:
Settings β Notifications and Status Bar β Notification Management β [Select App]For banking applications (for example, Tinkoff or Alpha-Click), the option is often available Confidential Notifications β it automatically hides the text of push messages, even if the system settings do not provide for this.
Are the system privacy settings open?
Are the individual settings for messengers checked?
Is the βHide Sensitive Notificationsβ mode activated?

3.Second Space for complete isolation
If you need to not just hide the text of notifications, but completely isolate some applications, use the Second Space function in MIUI. This is a separate workspace with its own settings, applications and notifications.
How to set up:
- π Go to Settings. β Special facilities β Second Space.
- π± Create a second profile and move to it applications, notifications which you want to hide (for example, messengers or social networks).
- π In the main profile, disable notifications for these apps (they will only come in Second Space).
- π Protect your second profile with a separate password or fingerprint.
The advantage of this method is that notifications from the second profile will not appear in the main workspace at all β neither on the lock screen nor in the curtain.
On POCO F4 and some Redmi models, the Second Space function may be called Private Mode and is located in Settings β Privacy.

4. ADB-Teams for Advanced Users
If you don't like standard MIUI settings, you can go further and turn off system-level notifications using the Android Debug Bridge (ADB), which requires connecting your smartphone to your computer, but gives you more control.
Step-by-step:
- Activate Developer Mode (7 times tap on the MIUI version in Settings β About Phone).
- Enable USB debugging in Settings β Additional β For developers.
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and execute the command: adb shell settings put global hide_notification_content 1 This command hides the contents of all notifications on the lock screen.
- Please use the following: adb shell settings put global hide_notification_content 0
If you need to hide notifications only for a specific application, use:
adb shell cmd notification allow_listener [package_name](substitute [package_name] to the application identifier, for example com.whatsapp).
β οΈ Attention: Misuse of the right ADB Before experimenting, back up your data through Settings. β Additionally. β Backup and reset.
| ADB Team Team | Action. | Example |
|---|---|---|
| settings put global hide_notification_content 1 | Hiding the text of all notifications on the block | β |
| cmd notification allow_listener [package] | Block notifications for a specific application | com.telegram |
| settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0 | Disables pop-up notifications (heads-up) | β |
| pm hide [package] | Hiding the application from the system (requires root) | com.facebook.katana |

If so, ADB-Notification commands are gone completely, check settings in Settings β Notifications β Additionally. β System notifications, sometimes MIUI Resets permissions for Google services after manual changes.
5. Hiding Notifications Through Security Settings
The latest versions of MIUI 14 have a separate security section where you can manage the visibility of notifications at the system level, which works even without ADB and does not require superuser rights.
Instructions:
- π Go to Settings. β PapaSSWORD & SECURITY β Privacy β Special access to applications.
- π΅ Select Notifications (or Notification access in English firmware).
- π Disable notification access for unnecessary apps (such as Mi Browser or Cleaner, which can show notifications at inconvenient times).
- π For banking applications, activate the option Confidential Mode (if available).
On Xiaomi 12T and Redmi K50, this section may be called App permissions β Notification manager. If you donβt find an item, search by settings (the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner).
This method is especially useful if you want to hide notifications not only on the lock screen, but also in the notification panel (curtain), for example, you can make messages from VK appear only when you unlock the phone, and only the name of the application appears in the curtain.
π‘
Settings in the Privacy section take precedence over general notification settings. If you activate the Confidential Mode here, it will override settings from the Notice and the status bar.
Alternative methods: launchers and third-party applications
If you don't like the built-in MIUI tools, you can use third-party solutions, which give you more flexibility, but require additional software.
Top.-3 notification-hiding applications:
- π‘οΈ Nottif Log β keeps a notification log and allows you to filter them by keywords (for example, hide messages with the word βpassword").
- π Hexlock β Blocks notifications for selected apps before unlocking your phone.
- π± Nova Launcher β alternative launcher with the option to hide notifications on the lock screen (requires a Premium version).
For installation:
- Download the app from Google Play (or APKMirror if it is blocked in your area).
- Grant permission to access notifications (Settings β Special Access β Notifications).
- Set up the rules of hiding in the application interface.
β οΈ Note: Some antiviruses (e.g. Avast or Dr.Web) may block notification management applications as βpotentially dangerous.β Add them to exceptions or disable protection while you configure them.
On the POCO X5 Pro and other models with MIUI 14, third-party applications can conflict with system services. If notifications stop coming after installation, clear the Security app cache (Settings β Applications β Application Management β Security β Clear cache).
