Have you ever wanted to save a video of an incoming call on your Xiaomi but didn't know how to do it? The ability to record screens during calls can come in handy for saving important conversations, proofs or just plain fun moments. MIUI This option is not always directly provided, especially when recording video (not just audio) and in this article we will discuss all working methods for Redmi models, POCO and Xiaomi on the base MIUI 14/15, including circumvention of system constraints and safety recommendations.
Itβs important to understand that video recording is not the same as screenshots or screen recordings. Android (and MIUI in particular) blocks the capture of images from some applications, including a standard Phone, for privacy reasons. But there are legal and semi-legal workarounds, weβll look at everything from built-in features to third-party apps, and warn of possible risks (for example, recording conversations without the consent of the interlocutor may violate the laws of your country).
1.Can I record a video call using standard MIUI?
Unfortunately, MIUI 14/15 doesn't have a built-in video recording feature for calls, only audio. Even if you turn on the recording of the conversation in the Phone app settings, the system will only save voice, not the image from the screen. This is a restriction at the Android level, and applies to all smartphones, not just Xiaomi.
But there are two nuances:
- π± Models with MIUI For the global market (e.g. Xiaomi) 13T Or the Redmi Note 12 Pro.+) They may have the option of recording the screen during calls, but it is unstable and often blocked.
- π§ Hidden developer settings allow you to bypass some limitations, but require technical knowledge (see section 4).
If you're critically interested in making a video, you'll have to use third-party solutions, but first check if the audio is right for you.
Open the phone application
Go to Settings β Record conversations
Enable the option to Record automatically or Record manually
Make sure that your area allows recording without notifying the interlocutor-->
β οΈ Note: In some countries (e.g. Russia and the EU), recording conversations without the consent of the other party may be considered a violation of personal data law.
Method 2: Recording the screen using the built-in MIUI tool
The easiest (but not always working) method is to use the standard screen recording feature, which is available on all Xiaomi smartphones with MIUI 12+.
- Open the Notification Panel (swipe down from the top edge of the screen).
- Find the Screen Record button (if it is not, click Edit and add it to the panel).
- Run the recording before the call starts.
- Make or accept a call, the recording will continue.
Problems with this method:
- π« In some models (for example, POCO F5) The recording automatically stops when the call starts.
- π Video will be soundless from the microphone (system sounds only).
- π΅ The interviewee will receive a notification about the recording of the screen (on some firmware).
π‘
If the screen recording button is not in the notification panel, check the settings in Settings β Special features β Screen recording. On some firmware, the function is hidden there.
Method 2: Third-party applications for recording video calls
If the built-in tools don't work, you can use third-party apps.
| Annex | Support for MIUI | Sound recording | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| AZ Screen Recorder | β Yes, including MIUI 15) | β Systemic sound only. | It does not require root, but can be blocked during calls. |
| DU Recorder | β Yes. | β Microphone + system | It works well, but it shows ads. |
| Mobizen | β οΈ Partially (depending on the model) | β Full sound recording | Requires manual permissions setting |
| XRecorder | β Yes. | β Microphone + system | Paid version without restrictions |
Instructions for setting up (for example, DU Recorder):
- Download the app from Google Play.
- Run it and provide all the permissions you have requested (including Overlaying on top of other windows).
- In the application settings, enable the option of recording sound from the microphone.
- Start recording the screen before the call starts.
- Accept the call, the recording will continue.
β οΈ Note: Some banking apps and messengers (such as WhatsApp) block screen recording for security reasons. If the screen turns black during recording, try another method.

Method 3: Using the Developer Mode and ADB
For advanced users, there is a way to get around the restrictions through ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which will allow you to record video calls even on Xiaomi models where standard methods do not work, this method requires a connection to a PC and can lead to a reset if you make an error.
Step-by-step:
- Enable Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. Click 7 times on MIUI Version. Go back to Settings β Additional β Developer Version.
USB debugging
Allow OEM Unblocking
adb shell settings put global hidden_api_policy 1This will unlock hidden APIs, including those responsible for screen recording.
ScreenCam

β οΈ Attention: Changing hidden settings can lead to unstable system operation. Before experimenting, back up your data via Settings β Additionally. β Backup and reset.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
5. Method 4: Recording from the second device (alternative method)
If the software methods didn't work, you could do the trick of recording a video call with a second smartphone or camera, which is guaranteed to bypass all system limitations, but requires additional hardware.
How to do it right:
- π± Use a second smartphone (like the old Redmi) as your camera.
- π₯ Set it on a tripod or fasten it so that the main phone screen is in the frame.
- π Turn on speakerphone on the main phone so that the second device records the sound.
- πΉ Start recording the video on the second device before the call starts.
Advantages of the method:
- β It works on 100% of Xiaomi models, including POCO X6 Pro and Xiaomi 14.
- β Does not require root rights or complex settings.
- β The video will be full sound (if speakerphone is enabled).
Disadvantages:
- β Low video quality (depends on the camera of the second device).
- β In the frame can get extra (for example, reflection).
π‘
Recording from a second device is the only legal way that does not violate Androidβs privacy policy and does not require circumventing system restrictions.
6.How to improve the quality of video calls recording?
If you managed to record a video, but the quality leaves much to be desired, use these tips:
- πΈ Screen resolution: Set maximum resolution in the display settings (Settings) β Screen. β Permission).
- π€ Sound: Use an external microphone (like a Lavalier) for better sound recording.
- π± Performance: Close all background apps before recording to avoid lags.
- π Battery charge: Connect your phone to charge - recording the screen consumes a lot of energy.
For post-processing of video, we recommend:
- π¬ CapCut β for cropping and improving sound.
- π Audacity - for noise reduction.
- π Adobe Premiere Rush for color correction.
7. Legal aspects: can video calls be recorded?
Before you record video calls, read the laws of your country.
- π·πΊ Russia: Recording conversations without the consent of the interlocutor is allowed if you are a participant in the conversation (Article 23 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation), however, using the recording in court may require proof of its legality.
- πͺπΊ EU (GDPR): The express consent of the interlocutor to the recording is required, otherwise it may be considered a violation of confidentiality.
- πΊπΈ U.S.: Laws vary by state, and some (e.g., California) require consent from all participants in a conversation.
Recommendations:
- β Always notify the person about the recording (for example, βIβm recording this conversation for the record").
- β Do not distribute records without the consent of participants.
- β Keep records in a secure location (e.g., in an encrypted archive).

If you're recording a video call for work, make sure your employer allows it to happen through internal regulations, which may be considered a breach of corporate ethics in some companies.
