Why do you need screenshots on your laptop and how RedmiBook 10 differs from others?
Screenshots on Xiaomi RedmiBook 10 can be used in a variety of situations, from saving important information from a web page to fixing errors in the program. Unlike smartphones, where you just press two buttons, on laptops, the process depends on the operating system and even on a specific keyboard model. RedmiBook 10 runs Windows 10/11, but has a number of features: for example, compact key layout and the absence of a separate PrtSc button on some modifications.
Many users are faced with the problem when standard keyboard shortcuts fail or the screenshot is saved in the wrong way. In this article, we will discuss 5 working ways to create screenshots - from basic hotkeys to specialized utilities, and also tell you how to configure automatic saving and editing of screenshots.
If youโve used other brandsโ laptops before (Lenovo, HP, Asus), you might have noticed that some combinations work differently on Xiaomi, which is due to keyboard firmware and preinstalled software. Donโt worry, all the methods in this article have been tested on RedmiBook 10 with the latest Windows updates (2026).
Method 1: Standard key combination PrtSc + Fn
The most versatile method is to use the Print Screen key (often abbreviated as PrtSc). On RedmiBook 10, it's usually located in the top row on the right, but can be combined with another feature (like SysRq) to take a screenshot of the entire screen:
- Find the PrtSc key (it may be signed as PrtScn or Print Screen).
- Press the Fn key (usually in the lower left corner of the keyboard).
- Press PrtSc once. The screen won't fade, but the picture will be copied to the clipboard.
- Insert a screenshot into any graphic editor (Paint, Photoshop) or document (Word, Google Docs) using Ctrl + V.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some versions of RedmiBook 10, the PrtSc key only works with Fn. If you press it without Fn, another function (such as turning on the microphone) may trigger!
If you need to save a screenshot immediately to a file, use the combination:
Fn + Windows + PrtScThe image will then automatically be saved to the C:\Users\[Your Username]\Pictures\Screenshots folder. The file will be named by date and time (e.g. Screenshot (1).png).
There is a PrtSc key on the keyboard.|The PrtSc key is not compatible with another function (e.g., SysRq)|The Fn key works (check with lighting or sound)|Screenshots folder exists in Images"-->
Method 2: Scissors Tool โ for selective screening
If you want to capture not just the entire screen, but only parts of it, the built-in Scissors Tool is the perfect choice. It allows you to select an arbitrary area, a program window, or the entire screen. RedmiBook 10 can run it in several ways:
- ๐ Through Windows Search: Type โScissorsโ in the search bar next to the Start button.
- ๐ฑ๏ธ Through the Start menu โ Standard. โ Scissors.
- ๐ Hot Keys: Windows + Shift + S (in Windows) 10/11).
After launch:
- Click Create (or New in Older Versions)
- Select the type of clipping: Involuntarily, circle the desired area with the mouse. In the rectangle, select the rectangle; in the window, click on any open window; in the whole screen, you can see the entire display.
The picture will open in the editor of the Scissors, where it can be annotated (add text, arrows, circle the area).
File โ Save as
๐ก Useful tip: If you often take screenshots, pin Scissors to the taskbar. To do this, find the utility in the search, right-click and select Secure in the taskbar.
๐ก
In Windows 11, Scissors got an updated interface and screen recording function. To turn it on, click on the camera icon in the upper right corner of the utility window.
Method 3: Windows + Shift + S Hot Keys (fast screen part of the screen)
This is the fastest way to take a screenshot of a selected area without running additional programs. The combination of Windows + Shift + S runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 and causes the clipping mode:
- Press Windows + Shift + S. The screen will darken slightly and a toolbar will appear at the top.
- Select the type of cutout (rectangle, arbitrary shape, window or entire screen).
- Select the desired area with the mouse (or click on the window).
- The image is copied to the clipboard and paste it into any editor (Ctrl + V).
โ ๏ธ Note: On some RedmiBook 10s with unoriginal keyboard firmware, this combination may not work. If so, check the key settings in the keyboard. MIUI Control Center (if installed) or update keyboard drivers via Device Manager.
If you want the image to be immediately saved to a file rather than copied to a buffer, use third-party utilities (see Method 5).
| Keyboard combination | Action. | Conservation | Does it work on RedmiBook 10? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fn + PrtSc | Full screen in buffer | No (inset only) | Yes. |
| Fn + Windows + PrtSc | Screening the whole screen in a file | Yes (at Pictures\Screenshots) | Yes. |
| Windows + Shift + S | Selective screening in buffer | No (inset only) | Yes (sometimes requires customization) |
| Alt + PrtSc | Screening of active windows in buffer | No. | Yes (with Fn) |
Method 4: Screenshot of the active window - Alt + PrtSc
If you only need to capture one open window (such as a browser or program), use the combination:
Fn + Alt + PrtScThis combination copies a snapshot of only the active window into the clipboard, ignoring the rest of the screen, which is handy if you don't want to crop the screenshot manually.
Example of use:
- Open the right window (e.g. Google Chrome with an important page).
- Make sure the window is active (click on it with your mouse).
- Press Fn + Alt + PrtSc.
- Insert the image in the editor (Ctrl + V).
Installation and configuration using the example of Lightshot:
- Download the program from the official website app.prntscr.com.
- Install by following the instructions (donโt forget to uncheck the unnecessary add-ons!).
- Launch Lightshot (the icon will appear in a tray next to the clock).
- Press PrtSc (or configure your combination in the program settings).
- Select the desired area of the screen โ an editor with tools for drawing, adding text and arrows will open.
- Save a screenshot to the disk or upload it to the cloud (the link is copied automatically).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some antiviruses (e.g. Avast or Kaspersky) may block Lightshot or ShareX from working because they are suspicious due to the screenshot upload feature on the Internet.
How to Set Up Auto Save in ShareX
Problem Solving: Screenshots are not saved or keys are not working
If none of these methods work, the reasons may be as follows:
- ๐ง There is no PrtSc key - on some RedmiBook 10 modifications (such as with a compact keyboard), this key can be combined with another. + Insert or Fn + F11.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Keyboard drivers are not updated โ download the current drivers from the official Xiaomi website (support).
- ๐ No Saving Rights โ Check if your account has folder rights Pictures\Screenshots. Try saving the screenshot to another folder.
- ๐ Program conflict โ some utilities (such as OneDrive or Dropbox) can intercept keyboard shortcuts.
If the screenshots are saved but are of poor quality:
- Check the screen resolution: right-click on the desktop โ Screen settings โ set the recommended resolution (for example, 1920ร1080).
- In Scissors or third-party settings, select the PNG format instead of JPEG for quality preservation.
- Update the video driver: Device Manager โ Video adapters โ Update the driver.
RedmiBook 10 with Windows 11 preinstalled sometimes resets hotkey settings after updates. To return them, go to Settings โ System โ Hotkeys and turn on the Screenshots option.
Additional chips: screenshots with a delay and video recording
Sometimes you need to take a screenshot with a delay (for example, to have time to open the drop-down menu) or record a video from the screen.
- ๐ Latency in Scissors: The new version of the utility (Windows 11) has a delayed screen option. Click on the arrow next to the New button and select the delay (3 or 10 seconds).
- ๐ฅ Screen recording in Xbox Game Bar: press Windows + Alt + R to start recording. Video saved to Video\Capture.
- ๐น Third-party programmes: OBS Studio (for streams), CamStudio (light recording), ShareX (screenshots) + video).
RedmiBook 10 is particularly handy with the webcam recording feature along with the screenshot (available in ShareX), which is useful for creating training videos or fixing errors with comments.
๐ก Gamer Tip: If you play RedmiBook 10 and want to record gameplay, use Xbox Game Bar (Windows) + G. It allows you to record the last 30 seconds of the game (Write this down functionยป).
๐ก
For professional use (for example, for work or streams), it is better to master ShareX or OBS Studio immediately, which gives full control over the quality, format and location of screenshots.
