Why Xiaomi 10 owners are looking for alternative ways to create screens
Xiaomi 10 smartphones (including Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10 Lite and Redmi Note 10) have become bestsellers thanks to the combination of powerful hardware and flexible software. But even experienced users sometimes face unexpected difficulties in creating screenshots. Classic combination of buttons Volume down + Power doesn’t always work – especially if one of the buttons is damaged or the phone is in a case with thickened edges.
What’s more, in some firmware (e.g. MIUI 12.5 and later), standard screen gestures can conflict with other features, such as calling Google Assistant or activating Game Turbo. What if you want to take a screenshot of a long web page or screen video? For these tasks, standard methods are not suitable. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to create screenshots on Xiaomi 10, including hidden MIUI features and third-party tools.
We will pay special attention to models with AMOLED-screens (such as the Mi 10 Pro), where screenshots can be too dark due to adaptive brightness, and budget versions (such as the Redmi Note 10), where some features are sometimes missing MIUI.
Method 1: Classic button combination (works on 100% models)
This is the most reliable method, and it's guaranteed to work even on smartphones with custom firmware or a damaged sensor.
- Open on the screen what you want to capture (application, web page, message).
- Hold and hold the buttons at the same time: 🔊 Loudness down (left side button) 🔄 Power (right side button)
1-2 seconds
⚠️ Note: On the Mi 10 Ultra and Mi models 10T Pro button sensors can be too sensitive – don’t press them too hard, or the phone will reboot to Fastboot mode.
The buttons are not locked with a case|Screen unlocked|No active gestures in the settings MIUI|The sound is not turned off (to hear confirmation)-->
If the screenshot is not created:
- 🛠️ Check if one of the buttons stuck (relevant for phones after falling).
- 🔧 Restart your phone – sometimes system processes block the creation of screens.
- 📱 Make sure there are no pop-ups on the screen (such as low battery notifications).
Method 2: Three-finger swipe gesture (the fastest method)
The MIUI feature is the ability to take screenshots in one motion across the screen, which is especially convenient for owners of Xiaomi 10 with large screens (6.67" or more), where it is not always convenient to reach the power and volume buttons.
How to turn on and use:
- Go to Settings → Additional settings → Buttons and gestures → Screenshot gestures.
- Activate the "Three-finger swipe down" switch.
- Now swipe your finger (or three fingers if you choose this option) from top to bottom across the screen – the screenshot will be taken instantly.
💡 If the gesture doesn’t work, try to start the swipe not at the top of the screen, but just below (at the top of the screen). 1-2 On some firmware, the top of the screen is reserved for notification curtains.
| Xiaomi 10 model | Does the 3-finger swipe support? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mi 10 / Mi 10 Pro | ✅ Yes. | It works on all versions of MIUI, including global and Chinese. |
| Mi 10 Lite | ✅ Yes. | Can conflict with the back gesture (configured in System Settings → Full-screen mode) |
| Redmi Note 10 Pro | ✅ Yes. | Some firmware requires you to update MIUI Launcher to the latest version |
| Mi 10 Ultra | ⚠️ Partially. | Chinese firmware gesture may not work due to conflict with Game Turbo |
Method 3: Voice command via Google Assistant or Xiao AI
If your hands are busy or your phone buttons are faulty, you can take a voice screenshot, which works on all Xiaomi 10 models, but requires pre-tuning.
Option 1: Through Google Assistant (for global firmware):
- Activate Google Assistant by saying “OK Google” or holding the Home button.
- Tell the command, “Take a screenshot.”
- Confirm the action if necessary.
Option 2: Through Xiao AI (for Chinese firmware):
- Hold the Home button or say Xiao AI Tongxue.
- Say “” (Jietu means “screenshot” in Chinese).
⚠️ Note: On models Mi 10 with Chinese firmware Xiao AI It can be disabled by default. To enable it, go to Settings. → Annexes → Application management → Xiao AI → Turn on.
💡
If the voice assistant doesn’t recognize the command, try to pronounce it more clearly or switch the system language to English (USA).
Method 4: Screenshot of a long page (scrollable screen)
A standard screenshot captures only the visible part of the screen, but what if you want to save an entire web page, a Telegram correspondence or a long post on social networks? MIUI has a built-in Scrolling Screenshot feature, but it does not work in all applications.
How to make a long screen:
- Take a regular screenshot of any of the above methods.
- Immediately after the screen thumbnail appears in the lower right corner of the screen, click on it.
- In the editor that opens, tap the “Scroll” icon (two arrows down).
- Wait until the system automatically scrolls through the page and connects all the pieces into one long screen.
🔴 Limitations of method:
- 🚫 It doesn’t work in some apps (e.g. Instagram, TikTok).
- 🚫 Can crop dynamic content (such as video or animation).
- 🚫 On the Redmi Note 10 with 4 GB of RAM, sometimes lags occur when creating screens longer than 5 screens.

Method 5: Screenshot via the power menu (alternative for faulty buttons)
If you don’t have physical buttons working (like after a drop or a moisture hit), you can take a screenshot through the software menu, which works on all Xiaomi 10 models, but requires an additional option.
Instructions:
- Go to Settings → System → Buttons and gestures → Power button.
- Activate the Power Menu option (or the Additional Menu option in new MIUI versions).
- Hold the power button for 2-3 seconds until the menu appears.
- Slip the screenshot icon (usually the third one on top).
⚠️ Attention: Mi 10 Ultra and Mi 10T Pro, this menu may conflict with the "Double tap to start the camera" function. If a screenshot is not created, turn off this option in the gesture settings.
💡
The power menu is the only way to take a screenshot if both side buttons (volume + power) are not working.
Method 6: App App App for Advanced Screenshots
If the built-in MIUI features don't suit you, you can use third-party utilities.
- 🎨 Edit screenshots immediately after creation (add text, arrows, blur).
- 📤 Automatically upload screens to the cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox).
- 🎥 Take screenshots of videos (in some applications where standard methods are blocked).
