How many ways do you know how to take a screenshot?
Xiaomi Redmi 10 is one of the most popular budget devices with rich functionality, but even experienced users sometimes do not know all the possibilities of creating screenshots. If you are used to using only a combination of buttons, then you miss at least 4 alternative methods! In this article, we will analyze all the available methods, including hidden MIUI functions, and also tell you how to edit and share screenshots as quickly as possible.
The Redmi 10 (Models 2022, 2023 and Redmi 10 Prime) features gesture control support even as standard, meaning you can take screenshots with one touch without using physical buttons. And the latest versions of MIUI 13/14 have a scrolling screenshot feature, so you can now capture an entire web page or chat in one file!
But there are pitfalls, too, like Redmi 10 with MIUI below 12.5, the default gesture for screenshots is disabled, you have to manually activate them, and many users have a problem with screenshots being saved in low resolution, and we'll show you how to fix that.
Method 1: Classic button combination (always working)
It is a versatile method that works on any Android smartphone, including all Redmi 10 modifications (Redmi 10C, Redmi 10A, Redmi 10 5G).
- Open the screen you want to capture (app, game, web page).
- At the same time, press the volume reduction button (lower left) and the power button (right side).
- Hold them for 1-2 seconds until you hear the camera shutter sound and see the save animation.
โ ๏ธ Warning: If you press the buttons too long (more than 3 seconds), emergency shutdown or Google Assistant will start.
โ๏ธ Check before screenshot buttons
Where to look for a screenshot? By default, files are saved to the Pictures โ Screenshots or DCIM โ Screenshots folder. In MIUI 14, after you create a picture, a thumbnail appears in the lower right corner - click on it to immediately open the editorial office or share.
Method 2: Gesture movement (the fastest)
The Three-toed Screenshot feature is a Xiaomi feature that saves time and eliminates the need to press buttons, but on Redmi 10 it is disabled by default. Here's how to activate and use it:
- Go to Settings โ Additional functions โ Gestures.
- Find the item "Screenshot with a three-toed gesture" and turn on the switch.
- Select the type of gesture: ๐ Swipe down โ swipe three fingers from top to bottom across the screen. ๐ Touch and Hold โ touch the screen with three fingers and hold for 1 second.
๐ก Useful advice: If the gesture doesnโt work, check if it conflicts with other functions (such as split screen or app switching). MIUI 13+ You can adjust the sensitivity of the gesture in the Settings menu โ Special facilities โ Gestures.
Why isn't the gesture working?
Advantages of the method:
- โก Instantly activate โ no need to look for buttons.
- ๐ฏ It works with one hand (unless the screen is too wide).
- ๐ You can turn off the shutter sound in the gesture settings.
Method 3: Through the notification panel (for advanced)
If you don't like to remember combinations or gestures, MIUI has an alternative, a quick setup panel, which is especially useful when you need to take a screenshot in a game or app where the buttons are locked.
Instructions:
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the notification bar.
- Find the screenshot icon (usually a scissor or a screen thumbnail). If it's not there, click on the screenshot. โ๏ธ "Edit and add it to active elements.
- Slap the icon - the picture will be taken immediately.
โ ๏ธ Note: In some versions MIUI (For example, on Redmi 10 2022 with firmware for India, the screenshot icon may not be available, in which case use the Tools widget on your desktop or add it through the widget menu.
| Method | Speed. | Convenience | Works in games? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volume + power buttons | โญโญโญ | โญโญ | โ No (may wind down the game) |
| Three-toed gesture | โญโญโญโญโญ | โญโญโญโญ | โ Yes. |
| Notification panel | โญโญ | โญโญโญ | โ No (a swipe from above can fold the application) |
| Voice assistant | โญ | โญโญโญโญ (for people with disabilities) | โ Yes. |
Method 4: Voice command (for lazy people)
If you have Google Assistant or Alice on, you can take voice screenshots, which is convenient when your hands are busy or you need to capture something quickly.
The algorithm for Google Assistant:
1 Say, "OK, Google, take a screenshot."
2. Confirm permission to access the screen (at first use).
3. Ready! The file will be saved in a standard folder. For Alice:
- ๐ค Activate the assistant with the phrase: "Hello, Alice".
- ๐ฑ Say, "Take a screenshot of the screen".
- โ๏ธ If necessary, allow access to the settings โ Annexes โ Alice. โ Permits.
โ ๏ธ Note: Voice commands may not work if:
- ๐ The assistant microphone is off.
- ๐ต No Internet connection (needed to process commands).
- ๐ Do not disturb or play mode is enabled".
๐ก
If the voice screenshot doesnโt work, try reinstalling the assistant app or clearing its cache in the settings.
Method 5: Scrolling Screenshot (for long pages)
The Long Screenshot (or Scrolling) feature allows you to capture the entire screen, including the part that does not fit on the display.
- ๐ Long chats on WhatsApp or Telegram.
- ๐ Complete web pages (such as articles or tables).
- ๐ Reports and documents in Google Docs or Excel.
How it works:
- Take a regular screenshot of any of the above methods.
- Immediately after the miniature appears in the lower right corner, tap it.
- In the editor that opens, select the option โScrollโ (the icon with two arrows down).
- Wait until the system automatically scrolls the screen and connects the parts into a single file.
๐ก Useful Lifehack: If the automatic scrolling is running a curve (e.g. skipping chunks of text), take a few regular screenshots in a row, and then glue them together in the Google Photos app (Collage feature) or Collage Maker app.
๐ก
Scrolling screenshot is only available in MIUI 12.5 and later. Redmi 10 with MIUI 12 needs to be updated!
Where are the screenshots stored and how to edit them?
By default, all screenshots on Xiaomi Redmi 10 are saved in the folder:
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshots/or (in some firmware):
/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Screenshots/To quickly find the screenshots:
- ๐ Open the Gallery and go to the album "Screenshots".
- ๐ Use Explorer (e.g. Mi File Manager) and follow the path above.
- ๐ Enter a request in the file manager search: screenshot_*.
For editing:
- ๐จ Basic tools: immediately after creating a screenshot, tap on the thumbnail - an editor with trimming, drawing and adding text will open.
- ๐๏ธ Advanced editing: Use Google Photos (filters, correction) or Snapseed (professional effects).
- ๐ Cutting and Compression: Photo & Picture Resizer App Helps Reduce File Size Without Losing Quality.
โ ๏ธ Note: If screenshots are kept in low resolution (e.g, 720p instead 1080p), check the screen settings:
- Go to Settings โ Display โ Screen resolution.
- Select the maximum value (usually FHD+ or 2400ร1080).
- In the Settings menu โ Additional โ Performance mode, disable the option โOptimize resolution for gamesโ.
Frequent problems and their solutions
Even on reliable smartphones like the Redmi 10, there are sometimes crashes in the screenshots. TOP-5 problems and ways of eliminating them:
- Screenshots are not saved ๐ Check if the device memory is full (at least 500 MB of free space is required). ๐ Reboot your smartphone โ it will reset temporary system errors. ๐ ๏ธ Update. MIUI Up to the latest version through Settings โ The phone. โ Updating the system.
- Buttons don't respond. ๐ Check if the battery is discharged (at a charge level below 5%, some functions are blocked). ๐ Turn off Do Not Disturb mode โ it can block system sounds and gestures. ๐ฎ If the problem occurs in the game, try using a notification panel or voice command.
- Black screen on the screenshot ๐ฌ This happens when you try to take a picture in secure applications (banks, encrypted messengers). ๐ Turn off content protection in the app settings (if available). ๐ฑ Use an external camera to take pictures of the screen (quality will be worse).
If none of these methods helped, try resetting your gesture settings:
Settings โ System โ Reset settings โ Reset gesture settingsThis will return all gesture commands to factory parameters without deleting the data.
