The dual screen mode on Xiaomi devices allows you to use two image sources simultaneously — for example, watching a movie on half the screen and displaying messengers, games or work documents on the other. Unlike the standard split screen in Android, Xiaomi technology offers deeper integration with the hardware capabilities of devices.
However, not all models support this option out of the box. In some cases, you will need to activate hidden settings or update your firmware. In this article, we will discuss all the official and alternative ways to enable dual screen, as well as how to avoid typical configuration errors. We will pay special attention to Mi. TV 4S/5X, Redmi Smart TV X and flagship smartphones Xiaomi 13/14 A series where the function is implemented differently.
What Xiaomi devices support dual screen
The screen split function is officially available on the following devices:
- 📺 Mi TV 4S (2020 and newer models – with firmware MIUI TV 3.0+
- 📺 Mi TV 5/5X/5 Pro - all modifications, including 55" and 65"
- 📺 Redmi Smart TV X (Series 2021–2023) – Required to upgrade to PatchWall 4.0
- 📱 Xiaomi 12/12 Pro, 13/13 Pro, 14/14 Ultra – through the Double Window mode MIUI
- 📱 POCO F4/F5, Redmi K50/K60 — Limited support (only for individual applications)
On budget models (such as Mi TV 4A or Redmi TV A), the feature may not be available due to hardware limitations, and it is worth considering that on Xiaomi TVs, dual screen only works with external sources (HDMI, USB-C), and on smartphones – mainly with supported applications (YouTube, Chrome, WPS Office).
Before setting up, check the firmware version: Settings → About TV → MIUI TV (for TV) or Settings → About Phone → MIUI (for smartphones).
If the version is outdated, update the device through Settings → Software Update.
Method 1: Official activation on Mi TV and Redmi TV
On Xiaomi TVs, dual screen is enabled via the PIP (Picture-in-Picture) or Split screen menu. Instructions are suitable for MIUI TV 3.0 firmware and later:

Method 2: Alternative method through HDMI-splitter
If your Xiaomi TV doesn’t support built-in dual screen, you can use an external one. HDMI-splitter PIP (Picture-in-Picture is suitable for all models, including outdated ones.
You'll need:
- 🔌 HDMI-splitter PIP (for example, OREI HDA-935 or Gana 4K PIP Switcher)
- 📺 Two. HDMI-cable (length from 1 m)
- 🎮 Signal sources (prefix, computer, camera, etc.)
Step-by-step:
- Connect the splitter to the TV via the HDMI IN port.
- Connect the signal sources to the HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 ports on the splitter.
- Enable PIP mode on the splitter (usually with the PIP Mode button on the body).
- On the TV, select the port to which the splitter is connected as the source.
- Adjust the position and size of the secondary window using the splitter remote.

Method 3: Double screen on Xiaomi smartphones (MIUI)
On Xiaomi smartphones, the dual screen feature is implemented via the “Split Screen” mode, which works on all devices with MIUI 12 and later, but has limitations:
- 📱 Only individual apps (YouTube, Chrome) are supported, WPS Office, Gallery).
- 🎮 Games and some messengers (such as Telegram) may not work in split mode.

How to turn on:
- Open the first app (like YouTube).
- Click on the "Recent" button (square at the bottom of the screen).
- Hold your finger on the app icon and select Double Window.

On Xiaomi 13/14 series, the extended "Floating Windows" mode is available, where you can open up to 3 applications at a time.

Xiaomi’s split-screen technology has its own characteristics compared to its competitors:
- 📺 Samsung: Dual screen support only on flagship models (QLED 8K). Requires connection via DeX.
- 📺 LG: Dual Play only works with certain games and consoles.
- 📺 Xiaomi: More versatile solution, but depends on firmware.On smartphones limited to the list of applications.
- 📱 Apple (iPad): Split View supports any app, but requires iPadOS.
Xiaomi’s main advantage is the flexibility of settings on TVs: you can choose your own sources, adjust the size of windows and even assign hotkeys to the remote, but on smartphones, the functionality is inferior to Samsung DeX or Huawei Desktop Mode, where a full desktop is available.

On Xiaomi TVs, dual screens are more stable than on smartphones. For productive work on mobile devices, it is better to use floating windows or an external monitor via HDMI-alt mode (on supported models).
Security and limitations
When using a dual screen, consider the following nuances:
- 🔒 Privacy: On dual-screen TVs, data from one source can be seen on another (e.g., notifications from a messenger in the background of a movie).
- 📶 Performance: Simultaneous reproduction 4K-content from two sources requires at least 2 GB of RAM on the TV. TV 4A (1 GB) possible brakes.
- 🔌 Power consumption: The mode increases the load on the processor, which can reduce the life of the device with prolonged use.
On Xiaomi smartphones, dual screen is not recommended to use with:
- 🎮 Games (possible overheating).
- 📹 Video editing applications (e.g. CapCut, KineMaster).
