The lock screen is the first thing you see when you unlock Xiaomi, and static wallpaper on it quickly gets boring. Fortunately, MIUI firmware offers several ways to make the background dynamic, from embedded tools to hidden features and third-party applications. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods for devices on MIUI 12/13/14, including the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, POCO F5, Xiaomi 13 Ultra and others.
It's important to understand that features are based on the firmware version and regional software. For example, in global MIUI builds, some features can be disabled, while in Chinese versions advanced settings are available. We tested all methods on current devices and collected only working solutions - without outdated instructions for older versions of Android.
If you want to not just change the picture, but make the wallpaper automatically updated β for example, adjust to the time of day, the weather or randomly selected from the gallery β read on. Spoiler: the most reliable method does not require root rights and works even on a locked bootloader.
1. Built-in Dynamic Wallpaper function in MIUI
Starting with MIUI 12.5, Xiaomi has added official support for dynamic lock screen wallpapers. The feature isnβt available on all devices, but check it out first β itβs the safest way to go.
To activate it:
- Open the Settings β Lock screen.
- Select the wallpaper of the lock screen.
- Scroll down to Dynamic Wallpapers (or Live Wallpapers in English firmware).
- Choose your favorite option (e.g. Earth, Ocean, or Colored Waves).
- Click Apply and confirm the selection.
Note that some dynamic wallpapers can drain the battery faster because they use animation in the background. If you notice an increased flow rate, go back to static wallpaper or reduce the refresh rate of the screen in the settings.
2. Use of theme with dynamic wallpaper
If your firmware doesnβt have dynamic wallpaper built in, you can add it through MIUI themes. Many themes include animated elements for the lock screen, some of which support automatic background change.
How to do this:
- π¨ Open the Themes app (icon with brush).
- π In the search bar, enter the query: dynamic lockscreen wallpaper or live lockscreen.
- π₯ Choose your favorite theme and click Download, then Apply.
- βοΈ After application, go to Settings β Lock screen β Wallpaper and select a downloaded theme.
Some topics require additional permissions. If the wallpaper does not change after application, check:
- π Update theme app to the latest version on Google Play.
- π± Restart the device β sometimes changes only apply after a reboot.
- π οΈ In Settings β Annexes β Application management β Themes Allow AutoRun and Background Work.
π‘
If the theme doesn't apply, try clearing the theme app's cache in the storage settings. This often solves display problems.
3. applications for dynamic wallpaper (without root)
If the standard methods don't work, you can use third-party apps, and we tested a few and selected those that work consistently on Xiaomi without conflict with MIUI.
Best options:
| Annex | Features | Cons | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wallpaper Engine | Support for animated wallpaper, synchronization with PC, large library | Paid subscription, high battery consumption | Google Play |
| KLWP Live Wallpaper | Deep customization, support for dynamic elements (time, weather) | A complex interface for beginners | Google Play |
| Muzei Live Wallpaper | Automatic change of wallpaper from gallery or online sources | Limited animation, no deep customization | Google Play |
To apply wallpaper from these applications to the lock screen:
- Install and open the application.
- Choose your favorite wallpaper and click Install.
- In the window that appears, select the Lock Screen (or Lock Screen).
- If the option is inactive, go to Settings β Lock screen β Wallpaper and select the application manually.
β οΈ Note: Some applications (such as Wallpaper Engine) may conflict with optimization MIUI. If after installing the wallpaper, the device begins to brake, add the application to the list of battery exclusions in the settings.
4.The Hidden Wallpaper Automobile feature in MIUI
MIUI 13/14 firmware has a hidden ability to automatically change lock screen wallpaper from the selected folder.
How to activate it:
Select the image folder in the gallery |Open Settings β Lock screen β Wallpaper |Push and hold the empty space on the preview screen |In the menu that appears, select the Automan |Specify the interval (every hour/day/week)

- Download the MIUI Hidden Settings app from Google Play (Android 10+ is required).
- Open the Lockscreen section.
- Activate the Auto-change Wallpaper option.
- Select the source (gallery or built-in wallpaper) and the interval.
This feature works even on devices with a locked bootloader and does not require superuser rights, but on some models (for example, the POCO X5 Pro), it may not be available due to regional firmware limitations.
