Small keyboards on Xiaomi are a common problem for users with large fingers or poor eyesight. Tiny buttons lead to persistent typos, slow down typing and cause irritation. Fortunately, MIUI has several ways to increase the size of the keyboard, both by standard means and with third-party applications.
In this article, we will analyze all the current methods for Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones based on MIUI 14/15 and HyperOS.
- π Scaling the Gboard system keyboard or MIUI Keyboard
- π± Use hidden developer settings to fine-tune
- π οΈ Install alternative keyboards with flexible settings
- π Activate the regime for the visually impaired (if maximum increase is required)
Important: Some methods may vary depending on the phone model and firmware version. If your Xiaomi runs Android 13/14 with HyperOS shell, check for updated menu items.
1. Increase keyboard through MIUI settings (without third-party applications)
The easiest way is to use the built-in shell options, which are suitable for the standard MIUI Keyboard and Gboard keyboard (if installed by default).
Instructions for MIUI Keyboard:
- Open any application with a text field (such as Messages or Notes).
- Touch the badge. βοΈ (gear) on the keyboard to open its settings.
- Go to Size and layout (or layout settings in new versions).
- Move the slider Keyboard Height to the right for zooming.
For Gboard (Google keyboard):
- π Go to Settings. β System system β Language and input β Virtual keyboard β Gboard.
- π Choose Size and layout β Keyboard height.
- ποΈ Set the value High or Very High.
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi Note 12 or X-ray) POCO X5) Keyboard height may not be available, in which case try updating Gboard via Google Play or using alternative methods from the following sections.

2.Use of the βIncreaseβ mode (to the maximum scale)
If the standard settings don't zoom in enough, activate the system mode "Increase." It scales not only the keyboard, but the entire interface, which is useful for users with visual problems.
How to turn on:
- Open Settings β Special Opportunities β Increase.
- Activate the short magnification switch.
- Set up a zoom level (150% or 200%) is recommended.
- Return to any app and touch the screen three times with three fingers to apply zoom.
The downside of this method is that the keyboard will get bigger, but the entire interface will also get bigger, which can be inconvenient. Use the developer's options to selectively scale only the keys (see next section).
What to do if the increase mode does not work?
3. Customization through developer settings (for power users)
Hidden developer settings allow for more precise control of keyboard size, including button width and height, a method that requires developer mode activation.
Steps:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone. 7 times click on the MIUI Version (you will be notified "You became a developer").
Settings β Additional β For Developers
Minimum width (dp)
400
450
Reboot the phone.
This parameter affects the scale of all interface elements, but the keyboard will become noticeably larger. ADB-team:
adb shell settings put secure display_size_forced 400x2200Where 400 is the width in pixels (increase for larger buttons), and 2200 is the screen height (leave unchanged).
β οΈ Attention: Incorrect values in display_size_forced If the screen is not displayed correctly after the change, reset the settings via the command: adb shell settings delete secure display_size_forced
4. Installation of third-party keyboards with flexible settings
If the built-in methods don't work, install an alternative keyboard.
| keyboard | Max. Button size. | Additional functions | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| SwiftKey | 200% of the standard | Prediction of text, topics, gestures | Google Play |
| Chroom | Customizable height/width | Night mode, pressing sounds | Google Play |
| Fleksy | Flexible scaling | Gestures, extensions, minimalist design | Google Play |
Instructions for setting up SwiftKey:
- π₯ Install the application and activate it in Settings β Language and input.
- π§ Open SwiftKey Settings, go to Size β Keyboard height.
- π Choose a large or a very large one.
- π¨ Additional settings button size and interbutton distance.
π‘
If it doesnβt appear after installing the third-party keyboard, go to Settings β Applications β Application Management, find the keyboard and allow it to display over other windows.
5. Change of screen resolution (last resort)
If there's no way to do that, you can artificially reduce the resolution of the screen, which automatically increases all the elements, including the keyboard, and this reduces the clarity of the image, so only use it when absolutely necessary.
How to change permission:
- Activate the developer settings (see Section 3).
- Go to For Developers β Minimum width (dp).
- Set the value of 320 or 360 (the smaller, the larger the elements).
- Reboot the phone.
Alternative methods through ADB:
adb shell wm size 720x1280Where 720x1280 is the new resolution (select your model) to return the original settings, use:
adb shell wm size resetβ οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Xiaomi) 13T or Redmi K60) Changing the resolution can cause the camera or graphic artifacts to crash. Before experimenting, back up the data.
π‘
Changing the screen resolution is the most radical way to increase the keyboard, only use it if other methods have not worked, and be prepared for a deterioration in the image quality.
6. Additional tips for comfortable typing
In addition to increasing the keyboard, pay attention to these settings:
- π΅ Pressing Sound: Turn on the keyboard settings (Push Sound) to better control input.
- π Auto Replacement: Turn off aggressive autoreplacement in Keyboard Settings β Text input if it interferes with.
- πΌοΈ Dark theme: Use a dark keyboard (Settings) β Designing) for less strain on the eyes.
- β©οΈ Swipe gesture: In Gboard or SwiftKey, enable typing with swipes (Settings) β Gestures) to press small buttons less often.
If you often type with one hand, activate the one-handed mode:
- In the standard keyboard. MIUI press and hold the icon βοΈ (gear).
- Select One-Handed Mode and move the keyboard left or right.
