Are you tired of seeing a tiny photo of a contact during an incoming call on your Xiaomi? The standard MIUI interface shows a thumbnail in the top left corner, and the rest of the space is occupied by the response and reset buttons. Meanwhile, many users want to see a full-screen photo of a subscriber - this is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also practical: you can immediately see who is calling, even from afar.
In this article, weβll look at all the working ways to stretch the contact image across the entire display during a call, learn how to do this through standard MIUI settings, third-party apps, and even through system file editing (for advanced users), and also explain why some Xiaomi models (Redmi Note 10 Pro, POCO X3 Pro, Mi 11 Lite) may not work β and how to get around the restrictions.
Important: the methods differ depending on the version of MIUI (12, 13 or 14) and the model of the smartphone. We tested the instructions on Xiaomi 13 Pro (MIUI 14), Redmi Note 12 (MIUI 13) and POCO F4 (MIUI 12.5 Enhanced). If you have another firmware, check compatibility in the appropriate section.
Why Xiaomi doesnβt have a full screen photo feature by default?
Xiaomi deliberately limits the size of a contact photo during a call β and there are several reasons for this:
- π± Design concept MIUI: Developers believe that the buttons of the answer / deviation should be always available, and a large photo can block them.
- π Theme compatibility: Many system themes are optimized for compact contact card display.
- π οΈ Technical limitations: on budget models (Redmi) 9A, POCO M3) Full-screen photo can cause lags due to a weak processor.
- π Security: A large image may accidentally press screen buttons (e.g. when ringing in your pocket).
But these arguments don't convince users who are used to full-screen display on smartphones from other brands (Samsung, Google Pixel). Fortunately, there are workarounds, from simple to complex. Let's start with the most affordable.
Method 1: Use standard MIUI themes (without root)
The safest method is to find a design theme that supports large-scale display of photo contact. Not all themes in MIUI Themes have this feature, but some developers add it to their work.
Hereβs how to find the right topic:
- Open the Themes app (icon with brush).
- Go to the section Popular or For Calls (if any).
- Search for full screen call big photo caller max contact image
Look for those where the photo occupies >50% of the screen.
Set up your favorite topic and apply it.
Recommended topics (checked on MIUI 13/14):
| Title of the topic | Size of photo | Compatibility | Free? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pure Call Screen | 80% of the screen | MIUI 12β14 | Yes. |
| Big Photo Caller | 90% of the screen | MIUI 13+ | No No (199)β½) |
| Minimal Call UI | 70% of the screen | All versions. | Yes. |
| Dark Call Max | 85% of the screen | MIUI 14 | Yes. |
Important: After applying the theme, restart your phone β sometimes changes only take effect after the reboot. If the photo is still small, try clearing the theme app cache (Settings β Applications β Application Management β Themes β Storage β Clear cache).
Set a theme from MIUI Themes|Apply it in the settings|Reboot your smartphone|Call from another phone to check|Clear the cache of the "Themes" application if necessary-->
Method 2: Configure via Contacts (MIUI 14)
The latest versions of MIUI 14 have a hidden photo contact enhancement option that doesnβt work on all models, but itβs worth a try:
- Open the Contacts app.
- Select the contact you want to change the display for.
- Click Edit (pencil icon).
- Slip on the contact photo and select Change the photo.
- In the lower menu, the option Full-screen display will appear (if not, the method is not supported by your model).
- Activate the switch and save the changes.
On older models (Redmi Note 11, POCO X4 Pro) this option may not be available, so move on to the next one.

If the Full Screen Display option is missing, try updating the Contacts app via Google Play β sometimes new features appear after an update.
Method 3: Google Play apps for full-screen photos
If the standard methods didn't work, you can use third-party apps to intercept incoming calls and show your own window with a big photo.
| Annex | Ratings. | Features | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Screen Caller ID | 4.7β | Customized photo size, animation, MIUI support | Advertising in the free version |
| Big Caller Photo | 4.5β | Simple interface, works without root | No Russian language |
| Call Screen Pro | 4.8β | Dark theme, customization of buttons | Fees paid |
Instructions for setting up Full Screen Caller ID (we recommend it):
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Open it and grant permissions for Calls, Contacts and Overlays.
- Select Display β Call Screen Size β Full Screen.
- Activate the Override Default Caller option.
- In the Appearance section, set the transparency of the buttons and the position of the photo.
- Reboot the phone.
β οΈ Note: some applications (such as Truecaller) may conflict with these utilities. If the number detectors stop working after installation, turn off the function "Mastering incoming calls" in themΒ».

Method 4: Edit system files (root only)
If you have root rights, you can manually change the settings for displaying calls, which works on all versions of MIUI, but you need to be careful.
You'll need:
- π± Smartphone with unlocked bootloader and root (for example, through Magisk).
- π» PC fitted ADB and Fastboot.
- π Backup of the system (required!).
Instructions:
- Connect your phone to your PC and open the ADB terminal.
- Enter the command to mount the system partition in write mode: adb shell su mount -o rw,remount /system
- Open /system/csc/others.xml file in any text editor (e.g., via Root Explorer).
- Find a line: <CscFeature_Call_UseFullScreenPhoto>false</CscFeature_Call_UseFullScreenPhoto> and replace false with true.
- Save the file and restart the phone.
If the file others.xml No, try editing. /system/csc/feature.xml or /system/csc/sales_code.dat (model-wise).
β οΈ Warning: Incorrect editing of system files can lead to bootloop ( looped reboot). TWRP Or OrangeFox Recovery. If you don't turn on after you edit, restore the backup.
Why photos donβt show up full screen: frequent problems and solutions
Even after all the settings, the photo contact can remain small, and here are the most common reasons and ways to eliminate them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Photo clipped around the edges | Wrong aspect ratio | Cut the photo into a square (1:1) before uploading |
| Photo blurred | Low source resolution | Use images β₯500Γ500 px |
| Photo doesn't change. | Cash contacts. | Clear the data of the applications Contacts |
| It only works for certain contacts. | Photo linked to Google account | Synchronize contacts with Mi Account |
If you are using dualities SIM-maps, check which SIM is contacted, sometimes the photo is only displayed for numbers saved in the Phone (not on the phone). SIM). To correct:
- Open the contact in the Contacts app.
- Click Edit β More (three dots) β Move to...
- Select the device or Mi Account.
Xiaomi also limits the size of photos for contacts synced via WhatsApp or Viber. To get around this, save the number manually in the phone book and assign it a separate photo.
Alternative solutions: widgets and automatic zoom
If none of these methods worked, try these workarounds:
- πΌοΈ Favorite Contacts Widget: Add a large photo widget to the home screen of frequent callers. When you call, the photo will appear in the notification.
- π Auto zoom in via Tasker: Create a task that, when an incoming call opens a photo of the contact in full screen mode.
- π Replace the standard call app: install an alternative call, such as ExDialer or Simple Dialer, where there is a photo size setting.
To automate through Tasker, use this profile:
- Event: Telephone β Incoming call.
- Action: Media β Show the image (indicate the path to the contact photo).
- Add a 1 second delay to allow the system window to appear.
The downside of this method is that the photo will be superimposed over the system call window, which can prevent you from pressing the buttons. To avoid this, set the transparency in Tasker to 80-90%.
