Xiaomi mobile devices are famous for their functionality, but standard interface settings are not always convenient for all users. Often there is a situation when the dial is too small to determine the time at first glance, especially for people with impaired vision or in bright light conditions, solving this problem requires a comprehensive approach, since time is displayed in several system zones.
There are several effective ways to make time more visible: you can change the system font as a whole, adjust the settings of a specific widget on the desktop, or activate special availability modes, each of which affects different elements of the MIUI interface and the new HyperOS.
In this article, we will take a look at all the scaling options available, learn how to set up a large watch on a locked screen, in a status bar and on the main desktop, and use the right tools to adapt your smartphone to your individual needs without losing functionality.
Set up the font size throughout the system
The most radical but effective way to increase time size is to change the system scale of fonts. When you change this setting, not only does text in messages increase, but the clock numbers in the status bar, on the lock screen and in the system widgets. To navigate to the desired menu, open Settings and find the Screen section.
Inside the screen menu, select text size. If you move the slider to the right, you'll see how the text changes. Note that over-magnification can cause some interface elements to bump into each other or crop, and an increase of 1-2 divisions above the standard is considered optimal.
If standard settings are not enough, the font menu often features the option of Large Mode or Read Mode (depending on the firmware version), activating this mode forcefully changes the rendering of fonts in all applications, which is especially useful for older users who critically need to see the time and date large.
- 📱 Open “Settings” and go to the “Screen” section».
- 🔍 Select the text size and move the slider to the right.
- 👁️ Activate “Large Mode” to maximize the elements.
- ✅ Check the time display in different apps after the change.
⚠️ Note: With a strong increase in the system font, some third-party applications may not display correctly, since their interface is not adapted to large text blocks.
Use of large widgets on the desktop
The most flexible customization tool is widgets. Unlike the system font settings, widgets only allow you to increase the time without affecting the rest of the text. Xiaomi smartphones preinstalled several standard watch widgets that can be scaled. To add them, swipe on the desktop or pinch with two fingers.
At the bottom of the screen, select the Widgets button. In the menu that opens, look for the Watch category. Here are the different options: analog, digital, minimalist and decorative. Most of them support resizing. Choose the appropriate widget and drag it to the free desktop space.
Once you have the widget on the screen, hold it with your finger for a few seconds until the edit menu appears. Some versions of MIUI have special "large" widgets that take up half the screen. If the standard set doesn't suit you, you can download third-party widget apps from Google Play, which offer a huge selection of styles and sizes.
- ⏰ Press and hold your finger on the empty space of the desktop.
- 📂 Select the “Widgets” tab in the lower menu.
- 📐 Find the “Clock” section and choose your favorite design.
- 🖐️ Stretching the widget over the edges to increase its size.

Setting up Always On Display (lock screen)
Owners AMOLED-The screens can use the Always On Display function (AOD) It's a time display on a screen that's off, so you can see the clock without unlocking the phone. AOD are on the way of settings → Lock screen → Always on Display and Lock screen.
Inside the menu, you can choose the display style. Some styles are initially large fonts. Moreover, many themes allow you to customize the appearance of AOD. Go to the Themes app, select your profile, and go to the lock screen component setting. Here you can download styles with giant numbers.
If standard options don’t give you the right size, use the “Style of Watches” function inside the AOD settings. There are often options for “Digital 1”, “Digital 2” and others that differ in font thickness. You can also set up a schedule to ensure that large watches only burn at certain times of the day, saving battery power.
| Setup parameter | Description of function | Impact on size |
|---|---|---|
| Display style | Choosing the design of the dial | High (depending on the topic) |
| Schedule | Screen time on | It doesn't. |
| Turning the device | Change of orientation during turn | Medium (changes composition) |
| Background image | Picture by number | Affects contrast |
⚠️ Warning: Always on Display with bright and large elements can accelerate wear and tear AMOLED-Matrix and increase battery consumption to 15% per day.
How to extend the life of the screen with Always On Display?
Accessibility and magnifying glass
The Android system and Xiaomi’s shell have built-in tools for people with visual impairment. The zoom (or Loop) feature allows you to temporarily enlarge any part of the screen, including the clock. You can activate it through Settings → Additional settings → Special features.
Turn on the zoom switch. Then a magnifier icon will appear on the screen (usually in a corner or floating button), and if you press it, you can select the area with the clock with your finger, and it will stretch over the entire screen. This does not change the font size constantly, but allows you to quickly see the small details.
There's also a feature called Large Pointer in the special features section, which is designed for the mouse cursor, but activating it can help you visually navigate the interface better if you're connecting your phone to an external display or using a mouse. Touch control, it's more important to adjust the sensitivity of your touches if your thumbs are not getting into the small parts.
- ♿ Go to "Settings» → «Additional settings».
- 🔍 Select the section "Special Opportunities».
- 👆 Activate the “Increase” or “Lupa” function».
- 🖱️ Use the button to scale the desired area.
Application of third-party design themes
MIUI Themes is a powerful visual change tool, thousands of authors create themes that focus on huge, readable watches, lock screens, desktop widgets, find a theme that you like visually, and check the components before installing it.
When you view a topic, click on the information icon or component preview. You're interested in the Lock screen and Home screen sections. If you see large numbers in the preview, then the watches will become large after you use the theme. Not all the themes change the system font, many only change the graphic elements.
To search, use keywords in your search for topics: Big Clock, Huge Time, Large Font, Senior. Often topics marked “for seniors» (Senior/Elderly) They have the maximum size of the interface elements. Once the theme is installed, it may be necessary to restart the device to fully apply the changes.
💡
Before installing a paid theme, always check its preview in free viewing mode (if available) or read reviews to make sure the big watches work exactly as you need them to.
Solving scaling problems
Sometimes users are faced with a situation where the settings are applied, but the clock is small, which may be due to the limitation of a specific theme of the design, some third-party themes block system changes to the fonts, in which case you need to go back to the standard theme Classic or Default.
Another reason could be the enabled mode of Simple Mode. In this mode, the interface is completely rebuilt: icons and fonts become huge by default. Check if it is activated accidentally. The switch is in Settings → Advanced Settings → Simple Mode.
If nothing helps, maybe the problem is in a specific widget app.Try removing the current widget and adding the standard system watch widget from Xiaomi, ignoring third-party counterparts. The system widgets are best integrated with the setting.
