Xiaomiโs robot vacuum cleaners (including the Mi Robot, Dreame, and Viomi brands) build virtual maps of spaces to clean efficiently. But sometimes these maps need to be updated after a furniture reposition, move, or device malfunctions. Resetting a card is a simple procedure, but the methods of doing it differ depending on the model, firmware version, and application used (Mi Home, Dreamehome, or Viomi Home).
In this article, you will find the latest instructions for all popular models of 2020-2026, including Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Dreame D9, Viomi V3 and others. We will also analyze the typical errors (for example, when the card is not reset or the vacuum cleaner โforgetsโ the room) and give recommendations for optimizing the new card after reset.
If your vacuum cleaner suddenly becomes chaotic, skip zones or โlostโ in a familiar room, most likely, the problem lies in a damaged map. Donโt rush to bring the device to the service: in 90% of cases, a software reset that can be done yourself in 2-3 minutes helps.
Why might you need to reset the card?
Xiaomi's virtual vacuum cleaner map is not just a diagram of a room, but a complex structure with data on obstacles, cleaning areas, forbidden areas and routes, and over time it can become clogged with unnecessary information or damaged.
- ๐ Redevelopment of the room: you rearranged furniture, added new items or removed old ones โ the vacuum cleaner continues to navigate the outdated map.
- ๐ซ Navigation errors: The robot gets stuck in a corner, canโt find a base, or constantly bumps into non-existent obstacles.
- ๐ฑ Failures after firmware updates: Newer versions of software sometimes conflict with older maps, leading to chaotic movement.
- ๐ Transfer of the vacuum cleaner to another room: if you took the device to the country or office, the old card will only interfere with the work of the car.
- ๐ ๏ธ Preparation for sale: resetting the card and settings is a mandatory step before transferring the vacuum cleaner to a new owner.
It's important to understand that resetting the card doesn't remove other vacuum cleaner settings (cleaning schedule, voice commands, suction settings) it only affects the room data. If you want to return the device completely to factory settings, you'll need a hard reset, but that's another procedure.
โ ๏ธ Attention: After the card is reset, the Xiaomi vacuum cleaner will move slower than the first 1-2 cleanings, which is normal. It needs to rescan the room and build a new map.
Methods of resetting the card depending on the model
The reset method depends on the brand (Mi Robot, Dreame, Viomi) and the version of the application. Below we have collected the current instructions for all the lines. If your model is not on the list, use the universal method through the application (section 3).
| Model vacuum cleaner | Annex | The path to a map reset | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite | Mi Home | Device โ Settings โ Map โ Delete the map | Confirmation is required through SMS-code |
| Dreame D9, Dreame D10 Plus, DreameBot L10 | Dreamehome | Map. โ โฎ (menu) โ Clear the map. | After the reset, you will be asked to create a new card immediately. |
| Viomi V3, Viomi SE | Viomi Home | Map โ Card settings โ Reset | In some versions, you need to hold the button for 3 seconds. |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1S, Mi Robot Vacuum E10 | Mi Home (old version) | Map โ Edit โ Delete everything | You may need to reload the vacuum cleaner |
| Dreame Z10 Pro, Dreame W10 | Dreamehome | Profile โ Device settings โ Map โ Reset | Reset takes up to 1 minute |
If your model is not listed in the table, or the path in the menu has changed after the application update, try the universal method (the next section). Also note that on some vacuum cleaners (for example, DreameBot X30 Ultra), resetting the card automatically triggers the process of recalibrating the sensors. This is normal and can take up to 5 minutes.
Universal way to reset the card through the application
This method works for all Xiaomi vacuum cleaners, regardless of brand. You will need a smartphone with an official application installed (Mi Home, Dreamehome or Viomi Home) and access to the account to which the vacuum cleaner is tied.
- Open the app and select your vacuum cleaner from the list of devices.
- Go to the Map section (usually it is on the home screen or in the bottom menu).
- Find a button with three dots (โฎ) or settings in the upper right corner.
- In the menu that opens, select Delete the card, Clear the card, or Reset the card (the name may vary).
- Confirm action. Some applications will need to enter SMS-account code.
Once confirmed, the vacuum cleaner will sound and the map will disappear from the application, so you can start cleaning, and the device will start building a new map from scratch.
Make sure the vacuum cleaner is charged (at least 20%)
Connect your device to Wi-Fi (if the card syncs to the cloud)
Close all doors in the room (so that the robot does not โgoโ to another room)
Remove small objects from the floor (wires, toys, shoes)
-->
โ ๏ธ Note: If after resetting the card vacuum cleaner does not start to build a new one, check: ๐ถ Wi-Fi connection (without internet, some models refuse to create a map). ๐ Charge level (below 15% โ the device goes into power saving mode). ๐๏ธ Clean sensors (laser or chamber module may have become contaminated).
Resetting the card without an application (hardware method)
If you don't have access to your smartphone, or the vacuum cleaner isn't connected to Wi-Fi, you can physically reset the card through buttons on the case, which doesn't work on all models, but it's suitable for most Xiaomi Mi Robot and Dreame devices.
Instructions:
- Turn off the vacuum cleaner with a long press on the power button (usually you need to hold 3-5 seconds).
- Press and hold two buttons at the same time: ๐ Power button (on/off). ๐ Back button to base (with the image of the house).
Hold them for 10-15 seconds until the vacuum cleaner emits a double beep or flashes the indicator.
Release the buttons and wait for the reboot (can take up to 1 minute).
Once rebooted, the card will be erased, which also resets some settings (like a cleaning schedule) but does not remove the link to your Xiaomi account.
What to do if the hardware reset does not work?
Frequent problems after resetting the card and their solutions
Most card resets are smooth, but sometimes users have difficulties, and here are the most common ones and ways to fix them:
- ๐บ๏ธ Vacuum cleaner doesn't build a new map: Check if the Cleaning Only (no mapping) mode is on in the settings. Also make sure there's enough lighting in the room - chamber models (DreameBot) L10, Viomi V3) They don't work well in the dark.
- ๐ The map is reset by itself: This is a sign of a malfunction of the laser rangefinder (LiDAR) or gyroscope. Try to clean the sensors with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. If the problem persists, contact the service.
- ๐ฑ The map in the app doesn't update: Close and reopen the app, or reconnect the vacuum cleaner to Wi-Fi. If Mi Home is used, try changing region to China in your account settings - sometimes this helps.
- ๐ซ Vacuum ignores no-go zones: Once you reset the map, all zones and virtual walls are removed. โ Edit.
If the vacuum cleaner starts spiraling or chaotic after resetting the card, it is a sign of a firmware failure, restore it through the official application (Service Update section) or manually via USB.
๐ก
Before resetting the card, take screenshots of the current map in the application - this will help to quickly restore cleaning areas and forbidden areas after rebooting.
How to optimize a new card after resetting?
Resetting the card is only half the battle, and to make the vacuum cleaner work better, you need to set up the new map correctly.
- First cleaning after reset: Run the vacuum cleaner in Full Cleaning (not Zone!) mode at minimum speed, this will allow it to scan the room thoroughly. Avoid interruptions - if the battery runs out, the map may not be complete.
- Rooms: In the app (Map โ Edit), divide the space into zones (e.g., Kitchen, Corridor, Bedroom) and make it easier to set up a schedule and select areas for cleaning.
- Set up no-go areas: Mark areas where the vacuum cleaner does not need to enter (e.g. long-pile carpets, children's play areas). Use Virtual Walls if there are stairs or open spaces in the room.
- Sensor calibration: On some models (DreameBot X30, Viomi V3 Pro) after resetting the card, you need to manually calibrate the gyroscope. To do this, place the vacuum cleaner on a flat surface and select Settings โ Calibration in the application.
If your vacuum cleaner supports multi-card storage (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro), save separate maps for each floor or room.
๐ก
Once the map is reset, the vacuum cleaner can temporarily "lose" in the usual room, which is normal. Give it 2-3 cleanings to adapt, and the accuracy of the navigation will be restored.
Reset card vs. full reset (Hard Reset)
Many users confuse card reset and full reset (Hard Reset), these are different procedures with different consequences:
| Parameter | Resetting the card | Hard Reset (full reset) |
|---|---|---|
| What's being removed? | Only room data (map, zones, virtual walls) | All settings, account binding, schedule, voice commands |
| Do I need to reconnect to Wi-Fi? | No. | Yes. |
| Implementation time | 2-5 seconds | 1-3 minutes |
| Is confirmation required? | Sometimes (SMS or password) | Always. |
| When to use it? | When rearranging furniture, navigation failures, moving | Before sale, with serious firmware failures, if the vacuum cleaner "hangs" |
Hard Reset is done by holding the Reset button (usually hidden under the lid) or through a combination of buttons (e.g. Power + House + Spot Cleaning for 10 seconds), after which the vacuum cleaner will return to the factory settings, and it will have to be adjusted from scratch.
If your goal is simply to update your card, donโt resort to Hard Reset unnecessarily, which is an extreme measure that can result in the loss of important data (such as cleaning history or individual suction settings).
