Why are the standard wallpapers on Xiaomi Redmi not suitable?
Xiaomi Redmi smartphones come with pre-installed wallpaper, but not all of them meet the tastes of users. Someone wants to install personal photos, someone β live wallpaper with animation, and someone important that the background fits perfectly into the theme of the design of MIUI. The problem is that the standard tool for cropping wallpaper in Redmi often works incorrectly: stretches the image, trims important details or makes the background blurry.
Another common complaint is the limited choice in the wallpaper gallery. Even if you downloaded a beautiful image from the Internet, the system may not offer it as a background for the desktop or lock screen. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to install wallpaper on Xiaomi Redmi, including the Redmi Note 12/13, Redmi 10/11, POCO X5 and others, and solve typical problems.
Before you get to the instructions, make sure your smartphone runs MIUI 12 and above - the wallpaper customization interface is different in older versions. If you have Redmi with custom firmware (like Pixel Experience or LineageOS), some of the ways may not work - in this case, use the universal methods from the last section.
Method 1: Installation of wallpaper through a standard gallery
The simplest method that works on all Xiaomi Redmi models without additional applications is suitable for static images (JPG, PNG) and live wallpaper in.mp4 or.gif format.
To put the wallpaper through the gallery:
- π Open the Gallery app and select the desired image.
- π Click on the three dots in the lower right corner and select Set as Wallpaper.
- π± The system will offer you to choose where to apply the background: on the desktop, lock screen or on both screens.
- βοΈ Adjust the trimming area (if necessary) and press Ready.
If the option Set as wallpaper is not active, check:
- π Image resolution β it should be no less than the screen resolution of your Redmi (for example, for Redmi Note). 12 Pro+ minimum permit β 1080Γ2400).
- π File format β only.jpg,.png,.gif (without animation) and.mp4 (live-wallpaper).
- π Update the Gallery app via Play Market or GetApps.
β οΈ Note: Some Redmi models (e.g. Redmi) 9A or Redmi 8) when installing live wallpaper through the gallery, an error may appear "Not supported format". In this case, use Method 3 with the Google Wallpaper application.
Method 2: Using MIUI themes for wallpaper
If you want to make wallpapers perfectly match the system icons and fonts, use the built-in Themes app, which allows you to set not only the background, but also full-fledged themes of design, including sounds, animations and menu style.
Instructions:
- Open the Themes app (brush icon on your desktop).
- Go to the Wallpaper tab in the lower menu.
- Select a category: π Landscapes β static wallpaper with nature. π¨ Abstraction - artistic drawings. π± Exclusive β wallpaper from Xiaomi for specific models. π¬ Live wallpaper - animations (requires) MIUI 13+).
Apply
The advantage of this method is that the wallpaper is automatically adjusted to the screen resolution and does not need to be cut manually, but the choice of themes is limited, and some wallpapers are only available for premium models (for example, the Redmi K60).

If there are few options in the Themes app, update it through the Play Market or clear the cache in the app's settings.New wallpapers appear after MIUI updates.
| Model Redmi | Supported wallpaper formats | Max, permission. | Support for live wallpaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | JPG, PNG, GIF, MP4 | 1080Γ2400 | Yes (MIUI 14) |

| Redmi 10C | JPG, PNG | 720Γ1600 | No. |
| POCO X5 Pro | JPG, PNG, MP4 | 1080Γ2400 | Yes (MIUI 13+) |

Method 4: Live Wallpaper on Xiaomi Redmi (including POCO)
Live Wallpapers add animation to the lock screen or desktop, and can be installed in several ways on Xiaomi Redmi:

- Open the Settings β Wallpaper.
- Select the Live Wallpaper tab.
- Download your favorite animation (we will need the Internet).

Option 2: Third-party applications (e.g. KLWP or Wallpaper Engine)

Instructions for KLWP:
- Install KLWP from the Play Market.
- Open the application and select Load Preset (download template).
- Download your favorite preset from the built-in store.
- Click Set Wallpaper and select Home or Lock.
β οΈ Warning: Live wallpaper from third-party sources can drain the battery faster (by 10-15% per hour when used actively). If you notice overheating or lags, turn off animation in the application settings.
