Have you missed an important WhatsApp message, missed a meeting reminder, or heard an alarm? Notifications on Xiaomi smartphones are one of the most common problems among MIUI users. The reasons range from accidentally activated Do Not Disturb mode to shell failure. In this article, we will look at all possible ways to view notifications on Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi devices, including hidden features and recovering lost alerts.
Feature MIUI — Flexible notification settings that sometimes play against the user, such as automatically hiding “important” alerts or grouping them into the Others folder. We will show you how to take back control of notifications, configure their display on the lock screen and even restore the history of the past few years. 7 The instructions are relevant to MIUI 14/15 (including global and Chinese firmware versions).
1. Basic way: how to open the notification panel on Xiaomi
The most obvious method is swipe from top to bottom across the screen, but even here, there are nuances that many people don't know about:
- 📱 One finger opens the Quick Settings Panel (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.) to see notifications, you need to make a second swipe down already inside the panel.
- 👆 Two fingers – opens notifications immediately (works on most models, except for the first two fingers) POCO F5 and new flagships).
- ⚙️ Gesture setting: if the swipe doesn't work, check the settings in Settings → Screen. → Gestures → Notification panel.
If the notification panel does not open at all, the reason may be:
- 🔄 System freezes - restart the phone (clip the power supply) + Volume up for 10 seconds).
- 🛠️ Launcher failure – try changing the standard launcher to Nova Launcher or HyperOS Launcher (for example, to use the new launcher). MIUI 15).
- 📵 Blocking gestures – some covers or protective glasses interfere with the recognition of swipes.
2.Where to look for hidden notifications in MIUI
MIUI automatically sorts notifications by importance, and some of them can disappear into the folder Others or Condensed to see all the alerts:
- Open the notification bar (swipe top-down twice).
- Put three points on it. ⋮ top-right.
- Select Notification History (only available if the feature is enabled in the settings).
- To view hidden notifications, click “Show All” or “Deploy.”
If there is no “Notification History” item, it must be activated:
- Go to Settings → Notifications → Additional → Notification History.
- Turn on the switch and allow notifications for MIUI Security.
- Restriction: the history is stored for only 7 days (after that the data is deleted automatically).
Why are some notifications not shown?
3. Configure the display of notifications on the lock screen
By default, MIUI hides the content of notifications on a locked screen to see text messages without unlocking:
- Open the Settings → Lock screen.
- Select “Notifications on the Lock screen”.
- Set up one of the options: 🔓 «Display content" - full text of notifications. 🔒 «Hide contents – only app icons. ❌ «Not to show – notifications are completely hidden.
Important: If you have Smart Lock enabled, notification settings can be reset. Check this in Settings → Security → Smart Lock.
Make sure the lock screen is not turned off in the battery settings|Check if the "Do Not Disturb" mode is on"|Update the Security app" (MIUI Security on Google Play|Restart your phone if the changes don’t apply-->
4. Recovery of missed notifications
If you accidentally cleared the notification bar or didn’t see an important message, there are a few ways to return it:
| Method | How it works | Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| History of notifications | Stores alerts for the last 7 days (set up in Settings → Notifications → More) | It doesn't work if the function is disabled. It doesn't show the contents of some system notifications. |
| Logs of applications | Some messengers (such as Telegram or Viber) store notification history in their settings. | Depending on the application, WhatsApp does not store notification history. |
| Backup copy of MIUI | If you did a backup through Settings → About Phone → Backup, you can restore the notification settings. | It only restores settings, not the notifications themselves. It requires a phone reset. |
| ADB-team | Using adb shell dumpsys notification, you can pull out notification logs (you need a PC and debugging over USB). | It's hard for beginners. It only shows technical data, without the content of the messages. |
The only reliable way to save notifications for a long time is to enable them to be archived in the Xiaomi cloud.
- Register for a Mi Account (if you haven’t already).
- Go to Settings → Xiaomi Cloud → Synchronization.
- Turn on the Notifications switch (not available on all models).
A specific problem for POCO and Redmi: some models (such as the POCO X3 Pro or Redmi Note 10) will reset notification settings.
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Put three points on it. ⋮ in the top corner and select Reset notification settings».
- Confirm the action and restart the phone.
💡
If notifications don’t come from just one app (like Instagram or Tinkoff), the problem is most likely in its settings, not MIUI.
6. Additional Chips: How to Manage Notifications Like a Pro
MIUI offers a few hidden features for fine-tuning notifications that few people know about:
- 🎨 Color tags: c Settings → Notifications → Additionally. → The notification color can be turned on with different colors depending on the application (e.g. green for WhatsApp, blue for Telegram).
- 🔊 Sound profiles: in Settings → Sound. → Sound profiles can be set up for personal and work notifications.
- 📌 Fixed notifications: Swipe the notification to the left and click on the pin icon to lock it at the top of the panel.
- 🤖 Automatic rules: in Settings → Notifications → Automatic rules can be configured to turn off notifications by time or location (e.g., at work).
For owners of Xiaomi 13/14 and other flagships, the Smart Notifications feature (based on AI) is available, which analyzes your habits and automatically sorts alerts by priority, to enable it:
- Go to Settings → Special features → Smart notifications.
- Activate the switch and allow access to usage data.
- Set up priority applications manually (e.g. Called, Messages, Calendar).
💡
If you use Dual Apps, notifications for cloned versions may or may not be duplicated. To fix this, open Settings → Apps → Dual Apps and enable the option to Allow Notifications for Clones.
7. Solving Notification Issues After MIUI Update
After upgrading to MIUI 14/15, many users experience notifications that are no longer working correctly.
- ⚡ Notifications are delayed (especially when POCO F4/F5).
- 📱 The text of messages is not displayed on the lock screen.
- 🔕 The sound of the alerts goes missing.
To get things back to normal:
- Reset the system cache: Turn off the phone. Press Power + Volume up until the Mi logo appears. Select "Wipe Cache Partition" (use volume buttons for navigation). Confirm the action and restart the device.
- Update the Security app: Open Google Play or App Store (for global version). Find MIUI Security and update it.
- Restore the default notification settings: Go to Settings → Annexes → App management. Put three points on the top. ⋮ and select “Reset notification settings».
⚠️ Note: If after updating to MIUI 15 notifications are late, check the settings "Battery Optimization" for instant messengers. MIUI By default, it limits the background activity of applications, which can block push notifications.
