Why Xiaomiβs Touchscreen Reacts to False Touches and How to Fix It
Xiaomi's screen sensitivity is one of the most common causes of inconvenience when using a smartphone. Have you noticed that the phone spontaneously scrolls pages, opens apps or enters characters during a call? This is not always a hardware defect - in 80% of cases the problem is solved by software methods. The manufacturer puts high sensitivity sensor "by default" to ensure responsiveness even with light touch, but this often leads to false positives.
This is especially true for owners of curved screens (Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Redmi K50 Pro, POCO F4 GT), where edge areas often respond to accidental palm touch. Also, sensitivity is a hindrance when using magnetic lock cases or low-quality protective glasses. In this article, we will examine all available methods, from standard MIUI settings to engineering menus and hardware checks.
Before you start setting up, make sure that the problem is not physical damage, and if the screen cracks, blows up, or moisture builds up under the film, no software method will help, and in such cases, you need to replace the touch module in the service center.
Method 1: Using the built-in sensitivity settings in MIUI
Starting with MIUI 12, the manufacturer added a separate section to adjust the sensor response, which is the safest method and recommended for use first. The instructions are relevant for most modern models: Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and later.
To change the sensitivity:
- Open the Settings β Display.
- Scroll down and select Sensor Sensitivity (on some firmware, the item may be called Touch Sensitivity).
- Move the slider to the left to reduce the response, the recommended value is 50-70% of the maximum.
- Click Save and restart the device.
If your MIUI version doesnβt have one, try an alternative way:

Method 2: Disabling casual touches during calls
One of the most annoying problems is when Xiaomi's screen is triggered during a conversation, pressing buttons or activating a speakerphone, and it's because the proximity sensor is so close to the sensor.
- Go to Settings β Applications β Calls.
- Select Incoming Calls.
- Activate the option to Lock the screen during a call (or turn off the sensor when talking).

- Open the Phone app and enter the combination: ##36446337## (this is the sensor test code relevant for MIUI 10-14).
- You'll see a grid of numbers on the screen, which is a visualization of the touches, and you'll touch the center of the screen and hold your finger for 5 seconds.
- At the bottom of the screen, click Menu β Calibration (or Calibration on Russian firmware).
- Follow the instructions on the screen by touching at the points indicated.
- After completion, restart the smartphone.

Method 4: Engineering menu - Advanced sensitivity settings
For advanced users, fine-tuning is possible through the Engineering Mode, where you can change the sensor settings at the hardware level, but improper actions can lead to unstable screen operation.
How to get into the engineering menu:
- Install the MTK Engineering Mode app (for MediaTek processors) or Qualcomm Engineer Mode (for Snapdragon) from Google Play.
- Start the app and select Hardware Testing β Touch Screen.
- In the Touch Sensitivity section, you will see the following parameters: Touch Threshold β the trigger threshold (the higher the value, the lower the sensitivity); Touch Filter β noise filter (recommended value: 3-5); Touch Debounce β delay between touches (increase to 10-15 ms to reduce rattle).
Change the settings one by one, testing the screen response after each change.

Method 5: Checking and Replacing the Protective Glass
Low-quality protective glass or film can cause false sensor alerts. Cheap coatings often have an uneven thickness or metallized layer that causes interference.

If all the previous methods didn't work, it could be a software failure in the sensor, in which case a reset or a firmware reinstallation will help.
- Make a backup of the data through Settings β About Phone β Backup.
- Go to Settings β System β Resetting settings.
- Select Reset all settings (does not delete files, only settings).
- After restarting, check the sensitivity of the screen.
If the soft reset didnβt help, perform a hard reset (delete all data!):

If none of the software methods worked, the problem could be a physical malfunction of the sensor module or plume.
