How to change the language of the calendar on Xiaomi: all the ways for MIUI 12, 13 and 14

Xiaomi’s smartphone calendar is one of the most popular system tools, but sometimes it displays in uncomfortable language. For example, after updating MIUI or resetting settings, the dates and days of the week can suddenly turn out to be in Chinese, English or even Arabic. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to change the calendar language on Redmi, Poco, Mi and Black Shark devices, from standard settings to hidden functions for older versions of firmware.

To make matters worse, the calendar language doesn't always sync with the main language of the system, sometimes it's regionally-specific, and in some versions of MIUI requires a separate setup, we've tested all the methods on the latest versions of MIUI 14 (Android 13/14) and put together working solutions even for custom firmware devices, and if you're seeing the calendar display months in a language that you don't understand, and the system language is correct, this is the guide for you.

Why Xiaomi’s calendar can be in a different language?

Before you change your settings, it's important to understand the cause of the problem, and 90% of the time, the calendar language is different from the system language because of:

• 🔄 Disparities in regional settings – for example, the smartphone was bought in China, but used in Russia.
• 📱 Errors after the update MIUI — This is especially true for transitions between global and Chinese versions of firmware.
• 🌍 Manual language change in the app – some versions of the calendar allow you to choose the language regardless of the system.
• 🛠️ Failures after resetting – if the device was recovered from a backup with another language.

On devices with MIUI 12 and later, the calendar usually inherits the system language, but in MIUI 11 and older versions it could be controlled separately, and the problem is often found on smartphones with multilingual firmware (for example, Xiaomi.EU), where the priority is given to the first language installed.

Method 1: Change the system language (main method)

In most cases, the calendar language is tied to the main interface language, so you can change it.

1. Open the settings (cog icon).
2. Go to the section Additional → Language and input (on some models, just Language and Region).
3. Click on the language and select the one you want (such as Russian).
4. Confirm the change and restart the device.

After the reboot, check the calendar, 80% of the time the language will change automatically, and if not, try to change the region from the same menu (for example, to Russia or Ukraine).

Some devices (e.g. Poco F3) may require cleaning the calendar app cache:

1. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2. Find a calendar (or Google Calendar if you use it).
3. Press Warehouse. → Clear the cache.

Method 2: Manual language change in Calendar app

If the system language didn’t affect the calendar, try changing the settings directly in the app.This method works for the standard MIUI calendar (not Google Calendar!):

1. Open the Calendar app (Date Icon).
2. Tap on three points (⋮) top-right.
3. Select Settings (or Settings if the interface is in English).
4. Find the language and select the language you want.

If there is no Language, your calendar version does not support a separate setup, in which case only changing the system language (Method 1) or installing an alternative calendar (Method 4) will help.

Method 3: Reset calendar settings to factory

If previous methods didn't work, try resetting your calendar settings. This won't delete your events, but will return all settings to the default state:

1. Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2. Find the calendar and tap it.
3. Select Warehouse → Delete data (not cache!).
4. Confirm the action and restart the application.

⚠️ Attention: On devices with MIUI 13 and later resetting calendar data may cause you to lose sync with your Google Account. Before the procedure, check that your events are saved to the cloud (go to calendar.google.com).

Once reset, the calendar should automatically pick up the system language, and if the problem persists, it may be related to corrupted firmware files, in which case only firmware reflashing (Method 5) will help.

Method 4: Installation of an alternative calendar

If the regular calendar stubbornly refuses to change the language, the easiest way to install a third-party app is to install the best options for Xiaomi:

• 📅 Google Calendar – automatically syncs with the language of the system, supports widgets and reminders.
• 📊 Business Calendar 2 - Advanced scheduling features, manual language change in settings.
• 🌙 DigiCal Calendar – Minimalist design, support for dark theme and multiple languages.

To set an alternative calendar:

1. Download the app from the Play Store (e.g. Google Calendar).
2. When you first start, allow access to your calendar and contacts.
3. Import events from the old calendar (if necessary).
4. Remove or disable the standard MIUI calendar (in Settings → Applications).

On some firmware (e.g., Chinese versions of MIUI), Google Calendar may not sync with system events, in which case use Business Calendar, which works autonomously.

If events are duplicated after you install Google Calendar, turn off sync in the standard MIUI calendar: Settings → Accounts → Google → Calendar Synchronization (uncheck the tick).

Method 5: Flashing to the global version of MIUI (for advanced)

If your Xiaomi is originally purchased with Chinese firmware (CN in MIUI version), some system applications (including calendar) may ignore the language change, in which case only a complete flashing to the global version (Global or EEA) will help.

This will require:

1. Unlock Bootloader (officially via Xiaomi's website).
2. Download Fastboot firmware for your model from MIUI Downloads website.
3. Swipe the device through the Mi Flash Tool (instructions are available on 4PDA).

⚠️ Warning: Firmware erases all data on the device! Pre-backup through Settings → Additionally. → Also note that unlocking a bootloader can take up to 720 hours (30 days) of waiting on new devices.

After re-flashing to the global version:

• The calendar language will be linked to the system language.
• Additional regional settings will appear (for example, holidays in Russia).
• Chinese services (such as Mi Pay for China) will disappear.

Flashing is an extreme method, but it is guaranteed to solve the problem with the calendar language on the Chinese versions of Xiaomi.

Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

When changing the calendar language, users often face typical problems:

• 🔄 "Language changed, but dates remained in English" → Check the date format in Settings → Additionally. → Date and time → Date format.
• 📅 "Calendar in Chinese, although the system is in Russian" → You have Chinese firmware (CN), Refrigeration is required (Method 5).
• ❌ "I can't find the calendar settings" → Update the app through the Play Store or install an alternative calendar (Method 4).
• 🔒 "After the calendar reset, events disappeared" → Restore them from a Google Account or local backup.

Another common mistake is to ignore regional settings, for example, if you chose Russian, but the region is the United States, the calendar can display holidays and the beginning of the week (Sunday instead of Monday) by American standards.
