Advertising in Xiaomi smartphones is one of the most controversial features of firmware MIUI. Even after buying the device, users are faced with banners in settings, push notifications from Mi Browser, advertising in standard applications such as Music or Gallery. The manufacturer argues this with βpersonalized offers,β but most owners want to remove the ads altogether β and itβs possible.
In this article, we will analyze all the current ways to disable advertising on Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO Black Shark (including 2023-2026 models) and the methods work on the MIUI 12, 13 and 14, and global and Chinese firmware versions. Importantly, some settings may vary depending on the regional build β we'll give you nuances for each.
If you are willing to spend 10-15 minutes setting up, you can get rid of:
- π’ Advertising banners in the settings menu (Settings) β Wi-Fi, settings β Battery)
- π Push notifications from system applications (Mi Video, Mi Browser, GetApps)
- πΌοΈ Advertising in standard applications (Camera, Gallery, Music)
- π Pop-up windows when connected to Wi-Fi or mobile network
Not all methods are equally effective: somewhere it is enough to turn off several switches, and in some cases you will need deep tuning. MIUI Or even custom firmware, and we've arranged ways from simple to complex -- choose the right one for your level of training.
1. Disabling advertising in MIUI settings (basic method)
The easiest way to remove some of the ads is to use the built-in settings. MIUI. This method does not require super-user rights (root) and is suitable for 90% of users, but it removes only system banners (in the settings menu, on the lock screen), but does not affect ads in applications.
The instructions are relevant to MIUI 12-14 (Global and European version) For Chinese firmware (China) ROM) Some of the items may be missing β we will talk about this in the next section.

β οΈ Note: On some models (POCO F4/F5, Xiaomi 13 Ultra) can be called Personalized Notifications or Smart Recommendations. If you don't find a section, search by settings (the magnifying icon in the upper right corner).
This method does not remove advertising in:
- π΅ Music app (banners before playing tracks)
- π· Camera app (pop-up sentences to install filters)
- π Mi Browser (Advertising on the homepage and in search results)
To disable them, we move on to the next method.
2. Removal of system applications with advertising (without root)
Many of Xiaomi's standard apps (Mi Video, Mi Browser, GetApps) not only show ads, but also prevent them from being disabled through settings, so the solution is to deactivate or delete these programs, and you can do this without superuser rights, but with some restrictions.
List of applications that can be safely disabled:
| Annex | What's he doing? | Can I remove it? | Effects of consequences |
|---|---|---|---|
| GetApps (Market) | Branded app store | Yes (deactivate) | Notifications for βrecommended gamesβ will disappear |
| Mi Browser | Standard browser | Yeah (delete) | Home screen ads will disappear, but links in systems will open in Chrome |
| Mi Video | Video player with ads | Yes (deactivate) | The video will be played through Google Photos or MX Player |
| Mi Music | Music player | No (only disable notifications) | Advertising before tracks will remain, but notifications will disappear |

To disable or remove the application:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Select the application you want (e.g. GetApps).
- Click Disable (if the Remove button is active, you can delete it completely).
- Confirm the action.
β οΈ Note: Do not remove system applications marked Android or MIUI System (e.g. Settings, Phone, Messages) This can cause your smartphone to fail. Also, don't touch your Mi Account, which is what you need to run your Xiaomi account.

- β No notifications will be shown.
- β It will not appear in the app menu.
- β But it will remain in memory (obtaining). ~50β200 MB)
To completely remove system applications, root rights will be required β we will discuss this in Section 4.
π‘
Before disabling applications, back up your data through Settings β Additionally. β Backup and reset, which will help restore the system if something goes wrong.
3. Features of disabling advertising on Chinese firmware (China) ROM)
If your Xiaomi is running on Chinese firmware (China) ROM), And the standard way to turn off ads might not work. ROM:
- π No Advertising Notices in Settings
- π΅ Apps like GetApps and Mi Video canβt be turned off without rooting.
- π Advertising in the Mi Browser browser is shown even after resetting the advert ID
There are two ways out:
- Refuse the phone to the global version MIUI (for example, MIUI Global or EEA). This is the most reliable way, but requires unlocking the bootloader and installing firmware through Fastboot.
- Use workarounds (no firmware) that are less efficient, but they work.
If you are not ready to sew your phone, try the following steps for China ROM:
How to tell if you have China ROM?
- Turn off personalization: Go to Settings β Additionally. β Confidentiality β Personalize recommendations and deactivate all switches, which will reduce the amount of advertising in the settings.
- Remove updates for system applications: Go to Settings β Apps, select Mi Browser or GetApps, click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Remove Updates, which will bring the app back to the factory version, where there are fewer ads.
- Use alternative apps: Install Google Chrome instead of Mi Browser, VLC Instead of Mi Video, Spotify or YouTube Music, instead of Mi Music, system applications can be disabled (see section 2).

ID through ADB: If the standard reset (Settings) β Google β Advertising) does not work, connect the phone to the PC and execute the command: adb shell cmd adservice reset-ad-id This requires installation ADB and the inclusion of debugging USB (Settings β The phone. β Version. MIUI β 7 times press the assembly number β return to Settings β Additionally. β For developers).
These methods will reduce the amount of advertising by 60-70%, but they won't eliminate it completely, and 100% of the result will require firmware on the global version or obtaining root rights.
4. Complete removal of advertising through root rights
If you're willing to take drastic measures, root access will remove ads at the system level, and this is a method that's suitable for power users, because:
- π Requires unlocking the bootloader (deletes all data from the phone)
- π οΈ It may cause loss of warranty
- π¨ Wrong actions can "brick" the device
The advantage of root-method is the complete removal of advertising in all system applications, including those that cannot be disabled by standard methods.

β οΈ Note: After obtaining root rights, do not update your phone through the OTA (This can cause you to lose root or even a device to fail. Update only through custom firmware (LineageOS, Pixel Experience).
If you are afraid of the risks associated with root, consider an alternative method β install custom firmware without advertising (more about this in the next section).
5. Installation of custom firmware without advertising
One of the most reliable ways to get rid of advertising is to install firmware from third-party developers.
- π± LineageOS β pure Android without unnecessary applications
- π± Pixel Experience β firmware with interface from Google Pixel
- π± MIUI EU β modified MIUI without advertising (from the community of Xiaomi.eu)
- π± ArrowOS β light firmware with minimalist design
