Advertising in Xiaomi devices has become one of the most annoying features for users. Even after buying premium Mi 13 Ultra or Xiaomi TV Q2 models, owners are faced with menu banners, pop-up notifications and integrated advertising in system applications. The reason lies in the companyβs business model: monetization through display ads keeps device prices lower than those of competitors. However, for those willing to sacrifice a few minutes of time, there are several ways to completely remove advertising β both legal and requiring deep customization.
It is important to understand that the methods are different for MIUI smartphones and PatchWall TVs. On phones, ads penetrate through Mi Video, Mi Browser, Security and even system settings, whereas on TV the main sources are the main screen, content recommendations and built-in services. We will look at both cases, including the hidden MIUI 14/15 settings that Xiaomi does not advertise in the official documentation, as well as methods for Android TV and Google TV (models 2023-2026).
Why Xiaomi is showing ads and is it legal to turn them off
Xiaomi openly declares monetization through advertising in the user agreement, which in practice means:
- π± On smartphones: banners in Settings, push notifications from Mi Push Service, advertising in standard applications (Mi Music, Mi Video, Themes).
- πΊ On TVs: integrated blocks in PatchWall (main screen), ads in Mi Home and Xiaomi Video, and sponsored content in recommendations.
- π Bypassing restrictions: Even after disabling ads in the settings, they can return after updates MIUI or reset to factory settings.
Legally, disabling ads does not violate the law if you:
- β Do not use pirated software or hacked firmware (this violates the license agreement).
- β Do not distribute modified versions MIUI/PatchWall.
- β Apply only official settings or permitted tools (e.g, ADB).
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Redmi Note 12 Pro)+ Chinese market attempt to disable advertising ADB This is due to Xiaomi's policy for devices sold in China. Before using commands, check the region of your device in Settings β The phone. β Version. MIUI (It should be global, EEA Russia).
In 2023, Xiaomi began testing βpremium modeβ without advertising for a monthly fee (so far only in India and Indonesia), but for most users, free methods are relevant, which we will discuss later.
Method 1: Disabling Advertising through MIUI Settings (without root)
This method is suitable for all Xiaomi smartphones on MIUI 12-15, including Poco, Redmi and Black Shark. It does not require superuser rights, but only applies to system applications, not third-party (for example, ads on Facebook or Instagram will not be removed this way).
Instructions:
- Open Settings β Accounts and Sync β Mi Account.
- Click on your account, then select Sync and disable Reklama (or Ads in English).
- Return to the main settings menu and go to Settings β Additional β Special features β Advertising.
- Turn off all switches: Personalized Ads, MIUI Recommendations, and Notifications from Mi Push.
For full effect, you also need to clean the cache of system applications:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find and open in turn: Mi Video, Mi Browser, Security, Themes.
- In each application, click Storage β Clear cache and Clear data (Warning: this will reset application settings!).
βοΈ Preparation for disabling advertising on MIUI
This method removes up to 70% of ads, but does not affect:
- π’ Pop-up notifications from Mi Push Service (Separate shutdown required).
- π¬ Advertising in Xiaomi Video (you need to use it) ADB).
- π± Banners in Settings on some firmware (for example, Redmi) 9A s MIUI 12.5).
Method 2: ADB-deep-switching teams
If the standard settings didnβt work, youβll need to use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), a tool for debugging Android devices, which works on all Xiaomi models, including the Poco F5, Xiaomi 13T and Redmi Note 12, but requires a connection to a computer.
What you need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with Windows/macOS/Linux and installed Xiaomi drivers.
- π± Included Debugging by USB on the phone (Settings) β The phone. β Version. MIUI β 7 times click on the version, then return to the β For developers).
- π Cable USB (preferably original).
Step-by-step:
- Download ADB Tools and unpack the archive.
- Connect the phone to your computer and select File Transfer mode.
- Open the command prompt (Windows) or terminal (macOS/Linux) in the folder with ADB.
- Enter the command to check the connection: Adb devices should appear the name of your device.
- Follow the commands in turn (copy and paste one at a time): adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.systemAdSolution adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.xiaomi.joyose adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.analytics adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.xiaomi.midrop adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.browser adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.bugreport adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.hybrid adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.xiaomi.market
What are these teams doing?
After completing the commands, restart the phone. The ads should disappear from:
- π± Menu Settings.
- π Search results in MIUI.
- πΉ Mi Video and Mi Browser apps.
- π Notifications from Mi Push Service.
β οΈ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI 14 for Redmi K50i) After the system update, the disabled services can be activated again. ADB. To avoid this, you can block automatic updates. MIUI through settings β The phone. β Updating the system β βοΈ β Auto-update (off).
π‘
If the phone starts to slow down after the commands are executed, try to turn off only the first three services (systemAdSolution, joyose, analytics).
Method 3: Remove Advertising on Xiaomi TVs (PatchWall)
Xiaomiβs PatchWall TVs (Mi TV 4S, Mi TV Q1E, Xiaomi TV A2, etc.) use an aggressive ad display system integrated into the home screen. Unlike smartphones, there is no one-size-fits-all solution, you have to combine several methods.
Basic settings (removes ~40% of ads):
- Open Settings β Accounts and Security β Advertising.
- Turn it off: π Personalized advertising π Content recommendations π Notifications from Xiaomi
Settings β Applications β Application Management
- πΊ PatchWall
- π¬ Xiaomi Video
- π Mi Home
- Save and restart the device.
For TVs and routers:
- πΊ Xiaomi. TV: Settings β Network β Network setup β DNS β Enter 94.140.14.14 (AdGuard).
- πΆ On Mi Router: Settings β Additionally. β Network β DNS β Specify 1.1.1.3 (Cloudflare Family).
Advantages of the method:
- π Works at the network level β blocks ads in all applications.
- π Does not require root rights or ADB.
- π‘οΈ Protects against phishing and malicious sites.
Disadvantages:
- β οΈ It can disrupt some services (e.g. Mi Home or Xiaomi Cloud).
- πΆ On some Xiaomi routers (for example, Mi Router) 4A Gigabit settings DNS reset after resetting.
π‘
DNS-filtering is the only method that blocks ads not only in Xiaomi system applications, but also in third-party ones (for example, in the browser or YouTube). ADB.
Method 5: Alternative firmware and custom solutions
If you're willing to take drastic measures, you can completely replace the firmware on your device, which is suitable for advanced users and requires unlocking the bootloader.
Options for smartphones:
- π± LineageOS or Pixel Experience - firmware without advertising and "extra" services Xiaomi. Support most models (for example, Redmi Note 10 Pro, Poco) X3 Pro).
- π§ MIUI Pro - modified version MIUI Remotely Advertising and Optimization.
- π‘οΈ Xiaomi.eu β European build MIUI Advertising free (but requires weekly updates).
For TVs:
- πΊ ATV Custom ROM β Android-based firmware TV PatchWall.
- π Disabler PatchWall β a module for Magisk that disables the standard launcher.
Step-by-step instructions for smartphones:
- Unlock the bootloader through the official Xiaomi tool (Mi Account binding is required).
- Install custom recovery (TWRP or OrangeFox).
- Download the firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.eu for the Redmi Note 12 here).
- Sweat through recovery, having previously made a backup.
β οΈ Note: Installing custom firmware voids the warranty and may result in the device being blocked if the process is disrupted (e.g., interrupting firmware or using an incompatible version). On some models (for example, Xiaomi 13 Pro) unlocking the bootloader requires waiting 7-15 days after the account is tied.
Advantages of custom firmware:
- β Total absence of advertising at the system level.
- β Regular security updates.
- β Additional features (e.g. Always-on Display on unofficially supported models).
Disadvantages:
- β Loss of official support and OTA-update.
- β Risk of "bricking" the device in case of error.
- β Some firmware (for example, LineageOS) may not work branded chips Xiaomi (IR Blaster, Game Turbo).
What to do if the ad returns after the update
Even after a successful ad disabling, it may reappear after a MIUI or PatchWall update, which is because Xiaomi periodically resets ad settings through server commands to prevent banners from returning:
For smartphones:
- π Turn off automatic updates MIUI: Settings β The phone. β Updating the system β βοΈ β Auto-update (off)
- π§ Block ad servers through a firewall (e.g., NetGuard): Add to the blacklist domains: ad.mi.com, tracker.miui.com, api.ad.xiaomi.com.
- π₯ Use local settings backups (e.g., via Swift Backup) to quickly restore configuration after resetting.
For TVs:
- πΊ Reverse to the old PatchWall version (if available).
- π Use the external TV-boxing (for example, Nvidia Shield or Mi Box S with custom firmware).
- π Set up your router to block ad domains (for example, through Pi-hole).
If the advert is back after resetting to factory settings:
- Repeat all steps from Method 1 (MIUI settings).
- If you have used ADB, repeat the commands.
- Check if new advertising services have appeared in the list of applications (for example, com.xiaomi.mirecycle on MIUI 15).
