Why Xiaomi Mi TV Remote is Not Connecting and What to Do About It
Have you just unpacked a new Xiaomi Mi TV or found that the old remote has stopped responding to commands? The remote connection problem is one of the most common among owners of smart TVs from Xiaomi. The reasons can vary from a dead battery to a failure in the firmware of a Bluetooth module. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways of synchronizing the remote with the TV, including the rare cases when standard methods do not work.
It is important to understand that the connection process depends on the type of remote: the original models (for example, Mi TV Remote or Mi TV Stick Remote) use Bluetooth + IR port, and universal or remotes from other devices only infrared channel. Also plays a role version of the TV firmware: older models (until 2020) may not support automatic synchronization. If your remote flashes, but does not connect, this is half the diagnosis!
Before you go to the instructions, check out three basic points:
- π Make sure that the remote has working batteries (even if the indicator is glowing, the contact may have oxidized).
- πΊ Reboot the TV: Press the power button on the case for 10 seconds.
- π± Check if the signal is blocking an obstacle (glass, metal) or other IR remote in the range.
Method 1: Automatic connection of the original Xiaomi remote
Most of the original Xiaomi Mi TV remotes (such as the LYWSD01MM or LYWSD03MM models) connect to the TV automatically when you first turn on.
- Turn on the TV with the power button on the body.
- Press and hold the Menu + OK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 5-7 seconds until the indicator blinks quickly.
- Hold the remote to a distance of 10-15 cm from the TV, synchronization will take up to 30 seconds.
- If the light goes on all the time, the remote is on. Check the buttons.
On the Mi models TV 4S/5 Pro (2021β2026 d.) additional confirmation on the screen may be required if the TV requests PIN-code, enter the standard 0000 or 1234. In rare cases, the code is listed on a sticker under the battery compartment of the remote.
Make sure the TV is on | Check the battery charge in the remote | Remove other Bluetooth devices from TV memory | Press Menu + OK for 5+ seconds-->
β οΈ Warning: If the remote has been paired with another TV, it should be reset. To do this, remove the batteries, press and hold any button for 10 seconds, then insert the batteries back.
Method 2: Connect via the TV settings menu
If automatic synchronization doesnβt work, try connecting the remote manually through the system menu, which is suitable for all Mi TV models based on Android TV or PatchWall:
- Open Settings on your TV (use buttons on the case or the Mi Remote app).
- Go to Devices β Bluetooth and Remote Devices.
- Select Add Device and wait for the TV to find the remote (it will show up as Mi Remote or Xiaomi RC...).
- Click Connect and confirm the pairing on the remote (if required).
On some firmware, the path may be different. For example, in Mi TV Q1E (2023) you need to go to Settings β System β Accessories β Add a Bluetooth device. If the remote does not appear in the list, try rebooting the Bluetooth module of the TV:
Settings β All settings β System β Restart β Restart Bluetooth| Model TV set | The Way to Bluetooth Settings | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Mi TV 4A/4C (2018β2020) | Settings β Devices β Bluetooth | PIN 0000 is required. |

| Mi TV Q2/Q1E (2023β2026) | Settings β System β Remote devices | Automatic determination of the type of remote |

If the TV can't see the remote, try connecting it through the Mi Home app on your phone, which sometimes resets the Bluetooth module locks.
Method 3: Synchronization of the universal IR remote

- Turn on the TV and point the remote to the IR receiver (usually located on the right or bottom of the screen).
- Press and hold the Setup (or Set) button on the remote until the indicator blinks twice.
- Enter the code for Xiaomi Mi TV from the list below. If the code fits, the remote saves the settings automatically.
