Connecting your computer to a Xiaomi TV opens up new possibilities: watching movies on the big screen, playing comfortably or working with multiple monitors. However, not everyone knows how to do this correctly to avoid problems with resolution, sound or delay. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways of connecting, from classic HDMI to wireless technologies, and give tips for setting up Mi TV 4A, 4S, 5 Pro, A2 and others.
It's important to remember that the choice of method depends on your tasks, for example, for games or video editing, you should use a wired connection, and for presentations or streaming movies, wireless transmission will do, and we will also look at how to avoid common mistakes, such as when the TV does not see a PC or the image is blurry.
Preparation: What you need to connect
Before you connect the devices, check their compatibility and prepare the necessary accessories.
- ๐ HDMI-cable (versions 1.4 and higher for Full) HD, 2.0+ for 4K). For Xiaomi Mi models TV 5 Pro and newer recommended HDMI 2.1 to support 120 Hz.
- ๐ถ Wi-Fi router (for wireless methods) Preferably with 5GHz support for less latency.
- ๐ Adapters (if not on PC) HDMI or USB-C). For example, DisplayPort โ HDMI or USB-C โ HDMI.
- ๐ฎ Remote or mouse: To control the TV after you connect (especially if the PC is used as a media center).
Also make sure that the latest firmware version is installed on Xiaomi TV. Go to Settings โ About TV โ Software Update. Outdated software can cause device recognition problems, especially when wirelessly connected.
โ ๏ธ Note: If you connect a laptop with USB-C, Check if the port supports video transfer (usually listed in the specifications as Thunderbolt 3 or DisplayPort Alt Mode). USB-C Ports can display images!
| Connection method | Max, permission. | Delay (MS) | Additionally. |
|---|---|---|---|
| HDMI | Up to 8K@60Hz. | 1โ5 | We need cable, better quality. |
| Miracast | Up to 4K@30Hz. | 30โ100 | No wires, possible lags |
| USB-C | Up to 4K@60Hz. | 5โ10 | Adapter or hub required |
| DLNA | Up to Full HD. | 100+ | Media files only. |
Method 1: Connecting via HDMI (most reliable)
It is the most versatile and stable method, suitable for any task from office work to gaming, and the instructions are relevant for all Xiaomi models, including the Mi TV Q1, P1 and Redmi Smart TV.
- Turn off both devices, which will help you avoid failures on your first connection.
- Connect the PC and the TV HDMI-On the TV, use a port marked with a cable. HDMI 2.0/2.1 (usually HDMI 1 or HDMI 3), if you plan to withdraw 4K.

- ๐ Is the cable connected correctly (try another port on TV).
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Updated graphics card drivers on PC (especially important for the NVIDIA/AMD).
- ๐บ Is the regime on? HDMI-CEC on the TV (Settings) โ HDMI-CEC).

Method 2: Wireless Wi-Fi (Miracast/DLNA)
If you don't want to mess around with wires, you can stream images over the air. Xiaomi TVs support two basic standards:
- Miracast โ Duplication of the PC screen on TV (as in HDMI, but without wires).
- DLNA โ transfer only media files (photos, videos, music).
For Miracast, do the following:
- On Xiaomi TV, turn on Miracast: Settings โ Connection and Sharing โ Wireless Display (Miracast)
- On a Windows 10/11 PC, press Win + K and select your TV from the list.
- Confirm TV connection (may require input) PIN-code).
For DLNA (for media files only):

Advantages of wireless connection:
- โ No need for cables.
- โ You can connect from a laptop from anywhere in the room.
Disadvantages:
- โ Possible delays (lags) when watching videos or games.
- โ Image quality depends on Wi-Fi speed.
๐ก
If the Miracast image is โslowingโ, try to reduce the screen resolution on your PC to 1920ร1080 or reconnect to the router at 5 GHz.

Instructions:
- Connect the adapter to the laptop, and HDMI-cable.
- On TV, select the appropriate signal source (e.g. HDMI 2).
- On a laptop, you may need to manually enable image output. In macOS, this is done in System Settings โ Monitors, in Windows, via Win + P.
If the image does not appear:
- ๐ Try another adapter (cheap Chinese adapters often don't support it) 4K).
- ๐ Check whether the power supply of the laptop is sufficient (when connecting to the USB-C Some devices require additional power).
โ ๏ธ Note: Some laptops with Intel Iris Xe or AMD Radeon when connecting via USB-C Maximum resolution may be limited to 30 Hz in 4K. To fix this, update your video adapter drivers or use a proprietary adapter from the laptop manufacturer.

Cons:
- โ ๏ธ Delay can reach 100-200 ms (unsuitable for gaming).
- ๐ถ Requires a stable connection to the Internet.
You can also install Kodi on the Mi Box and configure access to the PC media library via SMB or DLNA, which will allow you to view movies and photos without the need to duplicate the screen.
Adjust resolution and sound after connection
After successfully connecting a PC to a Xiaomi TV, additional resolution and sound adjustments are often required to get the best quality.

- In Windows, open Screen Settings (Win + I โ System โ Display).
- Select the TV from the display list and set the recommended resolution (usually). 3840ร2160 for 4K-model).
