Xiaomiβs modern cleaning devices are renowned for their advanced functionality, but often reach the end user with an English or Chinese interface pre-installed, which creates significant difficulties in initial setup and further operation, as the menu is rich in fine-tuning that cannot be ignored. Software localization becomes a key step in unlocking the full potential of your robot vacuum cleaner.
The translation process depends not so much on the physical model of the device, but on the server in the application and the firmware version. Many owners face a situation where voice packets and text menus remain in a foreign language even after connecting to a smartphone. In this article, we will discuss in detail the algorithm of actions that will allow you to fully Russify the interface and voice without using third-party software.
It is worth noting that some models designed exclusively for the domestic market of China may have limitations, but in the vast majority of cases the problem is solved by correctly linking the device to the correct region. Below we will discuss all the nuances, including working with voice assistants and resetting.
Preparing for language change and choosing a region
The first and most important step is to install the software correctly. Xiaomi uses the Mi Home platform (or Xiaomi Home in newer versions) to manage the appliances. A mistake at this stage often leads to the device simply not seeing the smartphone or not offering the right language packages.
The critical point is to choose a region when registering an account. If you choose China, the application interface will be tailored to the Asian market, and Russian localization may not be available. The region must match your actual location or be installed on Russia/CIS or Europe to receive a full package of language files.
Before you start setting up, make sure your smartphone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Xiaomi vacuum cleaners generally donβt support 5GHz networks, which can cause errors when trying to download language packs. Itβs also a good idea to update the Mi Home app itself to the latest version to eliminate interface bugs.
Translation instructions via Mi Home app
The main method of changing the language is to reconfigure the region in the app menu, which forcefully changes the language of the robot control interface. Before performing the procedure, make sure that the vacuum cleaner is on and near the smartphone. Go to the user profile by clicking on the Profile tab in the lower right corner of the screen.
In the menu that opens, look for Settings (cog icon). You are interested in Profile Settings or Region. Click on the current region value. You will see a list of countries. Select "Russia" or your country of residence if it is on the list and supports Russian. The system will warn you that the list of devices can be updated.
βοΈ Checklist before changing the region
Once the region change is confirmed, the application can restart, and now when you add a new device or reconnect the old one, the system will suggest you select a language, and if the robot has already been added, you may need to remove it from the list and add it again to apply the new language settings of the server.
β οΈ Attention: If you change region, your list of devices may temporarily disappear from view. Don't panic, they're still there, just appear in a new regional list. You'll need to re-authorize your devices.
Configuring voice package and voiceover
Once the text interface is translated, it is often necessary to change voice commands, the robot can continue to speak English or Chinese, announcing cleaning statuses, and to change voice, you need to go to the device card inside the Mi Home app.
Click on your vacuum cleaner icon to open the main control menu. In the upper right corner, click on three dots or the settings button. Find the Voice or Voice Pack section. This shows the current package installed. When you click on it, you'll see a list of available languages.
| Language | Package size | Status | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | ~2.5 MB | Active. | Basic package |
| Russian | ~3.1 MB | Available. | Complete localization |
| Chinese | ~2.8 MB | Available. | Original language |
| German | ~2.9 MB | Available. | European version |
Choose Russian and click "Download" or "Install." The download process depends on the speed of the Internet. Once installed, the package will automatically apply, and the robot will confirm this with the phrase "Voice package modified" in Russian. If Russian is not on the list, then the device model does not support the official Russian voiceover.
What if the Russian vote is not on the list?
The Chinese version of the robot (CN Version)
Owners of devices ordered from Chinese sites often face limited functionality. Chinese versions of Xiaomi Vacuum can block work with servers outside China. The Mi Home app may send a message about a region mismatch when you try to add the device.
There are two ways to do this: One is to use China mode in the app, but then the interface will be in English or Chinese; the other is to try to flash it to a global version if the model allows it; however, most often it is enough to just accept the English voice interface, because the text control in the application in Russian will work if the region of the application is installed correctly.
The global version always has the "Global" label on the box and in the model name. Chinese versions are often named only in characters or English letters without the Global prefix. Check the bottom of the device: if there are only Chinese characters, the probability of localization problems is high.

If the robot of the Chinese version does not want to connect to the European server, try when registering a Xiaomi account to select the region "China", and then in the settings of the application itself (if such an option is available in your version) change the interface language to Russian.
Error Resolving and Resetting Settings
Sometimes the translation process may not be correct due to an application cache or network error. If the robot is stuck in a foreign language despite the correct settings, it is recommended to perform a complete reset of the device's network settings. This will not delete the cards, but will cause the vacuum cleaner to request the configuration again.
To reset, find a Reset button or button combination on the robot body. Usually, you need to press the on button and the return button to the base (or spot clean button) for 5-10 seconds at the same time. The device will report the reset by voice. After that, remove the device from the Mi Home application and add it again.
When re-add, keep a close eye on the region selection step. Make sure you don't miss the step where the system offers language. If the problem persists, try clearing the Mi Home app cache in your Android/iOS settings or reinstalling it.
β οΈ Warning: Do not interrupt the process of downloading the voice packet. If the robot turns off at this point, it may stop making sounds at all or start playing audio files with errors, which will require flashing through the PC.

Completely resetting your network settings and re-associating with your account with the right region solves 90% of the interface language problems.
