Xiaomi and Redmi smartphone owners often face a situation where an important message disappears from the lock screen faster than the user can read it. Did you swipe? Lock the screen? No problem, because the Android operating system, as well as the proprietary shells MIUI and HyperOS, store the history of events. However, standard access to this archive is often hidden from the eyes of the average user, which creates the illusion of irretrievable data loss.
In fact, the notification log is a system component that continues to run in the background, recording all incoming signals from applications. The problem is that the shell interface does not always provide a direct button to access this story out of the box. In some versions of the firmware, this feature is activated by default, in others it requires manual activation through special menus or installing third-party solutions.
In this article, we will take a look at all the known ways to restore access to the history of the survey, how to activate hidden system functions, where to search for the archive in different versions of the shell, and what tools will help if standard methods do not work. It is important to understand that without first activating the function "Notification History" in the settings, you can not restore deleted messages by system means.
Standard way to access through curtain and settings
The most obvious, but often ignored, method is to use the standard shell interface. In current versions of MIUI 12, 13, 14 and the new HyperOS, Xiaomi has implemented a handy story widget directly into the control center, which requires you to unlock the device and swipe the notification curtain from top to bottom, and if you see the "Clear" button, don't press it, as there may be a watch icon or a history text nearby.
If you don't have a standard widget, you need to manually activate it. Go to Settings menu, then select Notifications and Control Center (or just Notifications in older versions). There's a Notification History switch. Once activated, a separate tab or button will appear in the curtain to view all missed events in the last 24 hours.
Note that the functionality may vary depending on the regional version of the firmware. Global ROMs often include this option by default, whereas Chinese ROMs or stable beta builds may vary. If you can't find the right switch, try searching by settings by typing in "history."
💡
In some third-party design themes, the standard notification history widget may be hidden or not work properly. If you have installed a new theme and no notifications, return the standard MIUI/HyperOS theme for verification.
Remember, the standard log stores data for a limited time, usually between 24 hours before the device restarts, depending on the OS version, so you shouldn't rely on this method as a long-term store of important information.
Activation of the hidden system log through the engineering menu
For advanced users who don't find the right option in the standard menu, you can access the hidden system log through special codes, which allows you to open the system deep log, where you can record absolutely all events, including system errors and background processes. However, be careful: interference with the system logs requires care.
To access the app, open the Phone app and enter the code ##4636##. If the code is active on your Redmi model, the Testing menu will open. Here you can select Usage statistics or similar, where you can display the history of running apps and events. On some models, this code does not work due to carrier or Android version restrictions.
⚠️ Note: In the Testing menu, it is strongly recommended not to change the radio module settings, preferred network type or reset parameters without understanding their purpose.
An alternative way for some versions of MIUI is to use code ##6484##, which opens the CIT, which is designed to diagnose hardware, but in some builds, you can find error logs that indirectly indicate when notifications arrive, but this is a difficult way for a beginner and requires a knowledge of technical terminology.
Why can't the code work?
Using the Security App to Analyze Events
Xiaomi's ecosystem has a built-in Security app that acts as an antivirus and an optimizer. Few people know that it also keeps a log of locks and security-related and app access events. While it's not a complete analogue of a notification log, you can find traces of the activity of apps that have tried to report something.
Open the Security app and go to Antivirus or Permissions. In Permissions, you can see which apps have requested notifications or tried to run in the background. If an application has tried to show you a message but has been blocked by the power saving system, the trail of this event often remains in the optimizer logs.
It’s also worth checking the “Block” section inside the Security app, if you accidentally blacklist a sender or activate SMS filtering, notifications from it won’t come in the standard curtain, but will remain in the blocker’s archive, a common reason for “losing” confirmation codes from banks.
- 📱 Open the Security app on the home screen.
- 🛡️ Go to the Antispam or Block section.
- 🔍 Check the tab Log of Blocks for missing messages.
- ⚙️ Make sure that important contacts are not on the blacklist.
Using built-in security tools is a reliable way to check if a message has been blocked by the system, and users often look for a notification log when a spam filter that hides content is actually working.
Third-party applications to save notification history
If Xiaomi’s built-in tools don’t meet your requirements, the best solution is to install a dedicated app from the Google Play Store, which works like “interceptors”: they receive a copy of each incoming notification and store it in their database, regardless of whether you swiped it or it disappeared itself.
One of the most popular solutions is the Notification History Log or Notif Log app, and once installed, the system will ask permission to access notifications, which is a must-do: without this right, the app will not be able to see incoming messages, and the principle is simple: you open the app and you see a chronological list of all events.
Third-party solutions have the advantage of allowing you to save your history indefinitely, back up and even recover deleted messages from the trash can of the logger application itself, and they often know how to export logs to a text file, which is convenient for keeping records or storing important codes.
⚠️ Note: By giving a third-party app access to all notifications, you theoretically allow the developer to read the content of your messages, including codes from banks.
Remember that such applications may consume additional battery power, as they must constantly run in the background, it is recommended to add them to the list of “Start” and remove the energy saving restrictions in the MIUI settings, so that the log is not interrupted.
Configure the display and sort of notifications
To make the notification log on Xiaomi Redmi as useful as possible, you need to set priorities correctly. The system allows you to flexibly manage which apps are entitled to display notifications and get into the story.
Go to Settings → Notifications and Control Center → Notification Management. This is a complete list of installed applications. Select critical programs (messengers, banking applications, mail) and make sure that all types of alerts are enabled for them. For less important services, you can turn off the sound, but leave the visual display in the history.
The same menu also has the Important Notifications feature, which if you turn it on for a particular app, its messages will even appear in Do Not Disturb mode and will be pinned at the top of the list, ensuring that you do not miss a critical call or message, even if the phone is down.
| Type of notification | Sound. | Vibration. | Screenplay | Preservation in history |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bank SMS | On | On | Yes. | I'll be sure. |
| Social media (Personal) | On | On | Yes. | Yes. |
| Gaming notifications | Off | Off | No. | If you wish, |
| Promotional mailings | Off | Off | No. | No. |
So, fine-tuning these parameters will help you clear the noise, so you can stop being distracted, but you can still open the log at any time and find the right message from the important contact.

Solving problems with notifications disappearance
Even with a log, Xiaomi users often complain that notifications are late or not appearing at all, most often the culprit is the aggressive MIUI energy saving system, which “kills” the application’s background processes to save power.
To fix this, find the problem application in the installed list, click on it and select Autostart (enable). Then go to Energy Saving and select No Limits mode. This will give the application the right to work in the background constantly, which will ensure instant delivery of notifications and their fixation in the log.
Another common problem is Do Not Disturb or Sleep mode, which can be activated on a schedule. Check the settings in the Sound and Vibration section. If the mode is active, notifications can come silently (without sound) and not appear on the locked screen, leaving immediately to the archive.
💡
Aggressive energy saving is the main reason for missing notifications on Xiaomi.Setting up the “No Limits” mode solves 90% of messaging delivery problems.
If problems persist, try clearing the Notification Center cache (if available in the app list) or resetting the network settings. In rare cases, updating the system to the latest available version of MIUI or HyperOS helps.
