Xiaomi Redmi 5 is one of the brand’s most popular budget smartphones, but even years after its release, its owners are faced with non-obvious features, one of which is working with a clipboard that is hidden deeper on MIUI than on Android stock. In this article, we will analyze all the ways to access copy history, including recovering deleted data and bypassing system limitations.
Specifically, on Redmi 5 (rosy/vince models), the clipboard depends on the MIUI version: there is no history on the firmware below the 12th function, and starting with MIUI 12.5, it appears but it works unstable, and we tested all methods on current 2026 builds, from standard to engineering.
1. Standard method: via Xiaomi keyboard
The easiest method is to use the built-in Mi Keyboard (aka Gboard in some regions), and the clipboard history is stored up to the last 20 copies, but only if the feature is not disabled in the settings.
Instructions:
- 📱 Open any field to enter text (for example, in Notes or Messages).
- 🔍 Press and hold your finger anywhere on the keyboard – a toolbar will appear.
- 📋 Select the clipboard icon** (two documents icon) from the top menu.
- 🔄 If the story is empty, check the settings: Settings → Additionally. → buffer → Include history.
⚠️ Attention: On Redmi 5 s MIUI 11 And below, this doesn't work -- the keyboard doesn't save history. 3-5).
2. Through the "Notes" app (hidden function)
Few people know, but Xiaomi’s standard Notes app has a built-in clipboard manager.It doesn’t display the full story, but lets you quickly paste the last 5 copied items.
How to open it:
- Launch the Notes app (yellow notebook icon).
- Create a new note or open an existing one.
- Click on three dots in the upper right corner → Insert from the buffer.
- Select the desired fragment from the list (sorted by copy time).
🔍 Important: This method works even on MIUI 9-11, It doesn't show text copied from secure applications (banks, encrypted messengers).

If Notes does not show the “Insert from the buffer” option, update the app via Google Play – there is no feature in the older versions.
3. Engineering menu: access to system buffer
For advanced users, there is a way to access the system clipboard through an engineering menu, which works on any version of MIUI, but requires caution - wrong actions can lead to failures.
Step-by-step:
- Open the phone app and enter the combination: ##4636##
- In the menu that appears, select Usage statistics → Clipboard.
- The last 100 copied items (including system data) will be displayed here.
⚠️ Note: This menu displays all the buffer data, including passwords and tokens from apps. Do not share screenshots of this screen with third parties!

Third-party buffer management applications
If the built-in methods don't work, install specialized utilities. We tested 5 applications, and Clipboard Manager and Clip Stack showed the best results.
Selection recommendations:
- 🔒 Clipboard Manager – Stores your history indefinitely, supports cloud backup (but requires permission to access notifications).
- 📁 Clip Stack – lightweight solution with a search function by history (free, without advertising).
- 🔄 Copy Bubble – displays the last copyed text in a floating window (easy for quick access).

5. Recovery of deleted data from the buffer
If you accidentally cleared the clipboard history, it can be restored – but only if two conditions are met:
- On the smartphone, the function of MIUI Backup is enabled (Settings → About Phone → Backup).
- It has been no more than 7 days since the cleaning (system backups are stored for a week).
Instructions for remediation:
- Go to Settings → Additional → Recovery and Reset.
- Select Local Backup and find the file with the date preceding the cleanup.
- Click Restore and confirm the action (all data, including the clipboard, will be restored).
⚠️ Warning: Recovery from the backup will overwrite the current data in other applications (contacts, SMS, Before the procedure, make a new backup of relevant information!

6. Problem Solving: The clipboard doesn't work
If none of these methods worked, check out these points:

🛠️ Extreme method: If the clipboard stopped working after the update MIUI, Reset your settings through Settings → The phone. → Settings reset (select App Settings Reset to avoid losing data).

On Redmi 5 with MIUI 14, the clipboard only works stably after disabling MIUI Optimization in the developer settings, and it turns on after 7 clicks on the MIUI version in the About Phone section.
