The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Liteโs phone recording feature can be useful in some situations, such as capturing important business information or evidence. However, not everyone likes the fact that the smartphone automatically saves audio files of calls, taking up the deviceโs memory and potentially creating privacy problems, especially for MIUI 12-14 owners, where the recording option is often turned on by default and hidden in the depths of settings.
In this article, weโll look at all the ways you can turn off recording conversations, from standard settings in the Phone app to editing system files for power users, how to delete already stored records, why a function can spontaneously turn on again, and what to do if the settings are gray and inactive, and weโll also look at the nuances for different versions of the firmware and give recommendations for optimizing memory after cleaning.
Important: Before you change system settings, make sure your Redmi Note 10 Lite has the latest version of MIUI installed. Some methods may not work on custom firmware or after root access. If you use third-party recording apps (such as Cube Call Recorder or ACR), your settings will have to be changed separately, which will also be discussed below.
1. Standard method: through the settings of the application "Phone"
The easiest method is to disable the recording directly in the Phone app, which is the default in MIUI. This method works on most firmware versions, including MIUI 12.5, 13 and 14, but may vary slightly depending on the regional build.
Open the Phone app and follow the following steps:
- Press three points (โฎ) top-right.
- Select the Settings item.
- Go to the Recording of Conversations (or Call Recording in English).
- Turn off the Automatic Recording Switch.
- Additionally, you can delete all existing records by clicking Records Management โ Delete everything.
If your menu doesnโt have a Record Conversations item, it could mean:
- ๐ฑ Your version. MIUI does not support embedded recording (rarely, but happens on some regional firmware).
- ๐ The function is blocked by the operator (relevant in some countries where recording calls is prohibited by law).
- ๐ ๏ธ Settings reset after the update - try restarting your phone.
Open app "Phone"|Verified version. MIUI customized|No active system updates|Backup of important records made-->
On some versions of the Redmi Note 10 Lite (especially those with firmware for India or China), the record item may be called differently, such as Call auto-recording or Voice recording. If you don't find the right partition, try searching by settings (the magnifying icon in the upper right corner of the Settings menu).
2. Disconnection through system privacy settings
In MIUI 13/14, recording conversations can be managed not only through the Phone app, but also through centralized privacy settings, due to Xiaomi's tightening policy on user data processing.
Go to Settings โ Privacy โ Special Permissions โ Record conversations. In this menu, you will see a list of apps that are allowed to record audio during calls. Turn off access for the Phone app (or com.android.dialer), as well as for any third-party programs like Truecaller or ACR.
Note that in some regional versions of MIUI, this path may look different:
- ๐ For global firmware: Settings โ Privacy โ Permission manager โ Microphone โ Call Recording.
- ๐จ๐ณ For the Chinese version: โ โ โ.
If the recording continues after the permissions are disabled, this may indicate:
โ ๏ธ Note: Some mobile operators (e.g. Jio in India) MTS In Russia, they implement their own solutions for recording calls at the level of the SIM-In this case, you will not be able to disable the function through the phone settings - you will need to contact the operator's support.
3. Delete records and clean up memory
Even after you turn off automatic recording on the Redmi Note 10 Lite, old audio files can remain in the device's memory, they take up space and can accidentally get into backups, to completely delete them:
Method 1: Through the Phone App
- Open the phone โ Settings โ Record conversations โ Recording.
- Click Delete All or select specific files to delete.
Method 2: Through the File Manager
Records are stored in a folder. /sdcard/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ or /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/Call/. To remove them:
- Open Files (standard MIUI application).
- Go to the Inner Memory โ MIUI โ sound_recorder โ call_rec.
- Select all files (with a long press) and click Delete.
Method 3: Through Settings โ Storage
The system can show the recordings as "Other Audio Files." To find them:
- Go to Settings โ Storage โ Free up the space.
- Choose the Audio category or the Others.
- Mark files with a name call_record_... and remove them.
| File type | Location. | Size (medium) | Can I remove it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call records (MIUI) | /MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ | 3-10 MB per minute | Yes. |
| The cache of the Phone app | /data/data/com.android.dialer/ | 50โ200 MB | Only through data cleanup. |
| Records from Truecaller | /Android/data/com.truecaller/ | 2โ5 MB per minute | Yes. |
| System logs of calls | /data/log/ | 1-5 MB | No (risk of failure) |
If files reappear after deletion, this may mean that the record is enabled at the level SIM-In this case, only completely disabling the function, as described in the following sections, will help.
๐ก
To prevent the reappearance of records, add a folder /MIUI/sound_recorder/ c exceptions for automatic cleaning in storage settings.
4. Disabling the recording for specific contacts
MIUI 13/14 has the flexibility to configure the recording โ for example, you can turn it off for all calls except for your favorite contacts, or vice versa โ which is handy if you want to save only important conversations.
To customize the exceptions:
- Open Contacts and select the contact you want.
- Click Edit (pencil icon).
- Scroll down to the item Recording conversations (or Call recording).
- Choose one of the options: ๐ Never record โ calls with this contact will not be saved. ๐ค Always record โ only calls with this contact will be recorded. โ๏ธ By default, a global setting will be used.
If there is no Call Record in the contact card, it means that your version of MIUI does not support customization, in which case you can use third-party applications (about them in the next section).
Also note that some messengers (such as WhatsApp or Telegram) have their own voice recording settings, and they will have to be disabled separately in the menu of the corresponding application.
5. Third-party application solution (Cube ACR, Truecaller, etc.)
If you use third-party call recording software (such as Cube Call Recorder ACR, Truecaller, or Call Recorder by Lovekesh), standard MIUI settings will not affect their performance, in which case you need to turn off the recording directly in the application itself.
Instructions for popular programs:
- ๐ฆ Cube ACR: Open the Cube app ACR. Go to Settings. โ Record calls. Turn off switch Automatic recording. Delete existing records through History โ Delete everything.
- ๐ Truecaller: Open Truecaller and go to Settings โ Call recording. Turn off the option to record all calls. In the Warehouse section, clear the cache and records.
- ๐ Call Recorder by Lovekesh: Go to Settings โ General. Uncheck Auto Record. In the Record Folder, check the file storage path and manually delete it.
If after disabling the record in a third-party application it continues to work, this may be due to:
- ๐ Autorun: The application is enabled with the system. Turn off autorun in Settings โ Annexes โ Autostart control.
- ๐ฑ Permissions: Check that the app does not have access to the microphone in Settings โ Confidentiality โ Permits.
- ๐ Update: Some apps (like Truecaller) reset settings after the update. Follow the versions on Google Play.
