Screen recording on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones is a useful feature for creating gameplay, training videos or fixing errors. But sometimes it works incorrectly: spontaneously turns on, slows down the system or interferes with privacy. In this article, we will discuss all the ways to disable it, from basic MIUI settings to deep system interventions.
To make matters worse, different versions of the firmware (MIUI 12, 13, 14) may have different paths to settings, and some options are hidden. We tested all methods on Redmi Note 10/11/12, Redmi 9/10/13, and we highlighted 5 working solutions, from simple to complex. If you find that the screen recording turns on on by itself or does not turn off through the standard menu, here you will find the answer.
1. Disable screen recording through the notification panel
The fastest way is to use a notification center, which works if the recording was started manually or through a third-party application (for example, AZ Screen Recorder).
Instructions:
- π± Swipe your finger down to open the notification bar.
- π΄ Find an active screen recording β it is usually marked with a red icon or the inscription βRecording is in progressΒ».
- π Click on the notification and select βStopβ or swipe it left/right (depending on version). MIUI).
- π If the recording does not stop, reboot the smartphone β it will reset the background processes.
β οΈ Note: On some models (Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi) 9A) Notice of record may not be displayed if it was run through ADB Or system services, in which case you move on to the next way.
2. Deactivation through MIUI settings
If the screen recording is turned on by itself, the problem may lie in the gesture settings or special features. In MIUI 13/14, the recording function sometimes conflicts with the screen capture option for screenshots.
To turn it off completely:
- Open Settings β Special Opportunities β Improved Interaction.
- Find the item "Screen Recording" or "Screen Capture" and turn off the slider.
- Return to the main settings menu and go to Settings β Additional β Gestures and movements.
- Check if there are any active gestures to record (e.g. triple tapping on the screen).
π Note: On Redmi with MIUI 12.5 and below the path may be different: β System and device β Additionally. β Screen recording. If no point is available, the function is managed through Google Play Services (see section 4).

3. Removal of Screen Write Rights for Applications
Many apps (messengers, games, launchers) request permission to record the screen for analytics or streaming, and if you don't remember which one activated the feature, you need to massively revoke the rights.
How to do this:
- π Go to Settings. β Annexes β Permits β Screen recording.
- π You will see a list of all apps that are allowed to record the screen. disable sliders for unnecessary ones (especially for Facebook, TikTok, Discord).
- π If there are unknown applications (for example, com.miui.screenrecorder) in the list, this is a system service - it is better not to touch it without root rights.
β οΈ Note: Some applications (such as Zoom or Google Meet) may stop working correctly after revoking this permission.
| Annex | Why is it asking for a screen recording? | Can I turn it off? |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | Creating duets, streaming | Yeah, no consequences. |
| Discord | The game is broadcast (Go Live) | Yeah, but Go Live won't work. |
| MIUI Screen Recorder | System recording of the screen | No (root required) |
| Zoom | Screen demonstration at the meeting | No (meeting function will break) |
4. Disconnection via ADB (for power users)
If the screen recording is enabled at the system level (e.g. due to a failure) MIUI or virus, will help debugging the USB. This method requires a computer and basic knowledge. ADB.
Step-by-step:
- Activate Developer Mode: Go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version and press 7 times.
- Return to Settings β Additional β For developers and enable USB debugging.
- Connect Redmi to your PC, open Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac/Linux) and type:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.screenrecorderπ§ What the team does is completely disable the system's screen recording app. To return it, use it:
adb shell pm enable com.miui.screenrecorderβ οΈ Warning: After completing the command, all screen recording functions (including screencasting to support Xiaomi) will stop working. This method is only suitable if you are sure that you do not need the feature.
What if the ADB canβt see the device?
5. Resetting settings to factory (extreme case)
If none of these methods worked, the problem could be the corrupted system files, in which case a hard reset would help, but it would delete all the data from the phone.
How to reset Redmi without losing data (partial reset):
- π Go to Settings. β The phone. β Resetting settings.
- π± Select Reset All Settings (this wonβt affect files, but will reset application settings).
- π If the problem persists, complete the reset via Settings. β Additionally. β Recovery and discharge β All data dumping.
π‘ Tip: Before reset, save important data to Mi Cloud or PC. After the procedure, the phone will return to the βout of the boxβ state, and the screen recording will be disabled by default.
π‘
If the problem returned after the reset, it may indicate a hardware failure (for example, a malfunction of the power button that activates the recording).
6.Verification for viruses and malware
Sometimes screen recording is triggered by spy apps or viruses that disguise themselves as system services, such as the Android.Spy Trojan, which can secretly record a screen to steal data.
How to check your phone:
- π‘οΈ Install antivirus (Dr.Web, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes) and perform a full scan.
- π Check the list of installed applications in Settings β Annexes β Delete suspicious ones (especially with names like Screen Service, System RecorderΒ»).
- π Open the Settings. β Battery. β Battery usage and see which apps consume a lot of power in the background.
π¨ Signs of infection:
- Screen recording is turned on at night or when the phone is lying idle.
- In the permission list there are unknown applications with rights to write.
- The phone is very warm and discharged without active use.
π‘
If the antivirus has found threats, after removing them, be sure to reset all network settings (Settings) β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Reset network settings as some viruses change DNS reinfect.
