Many Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphone owners experience an intrusive vibration every time they press the on-screen keyboard, a tactile response that is designed for convenience that is often annoying in practice, especially when typing fast or at night, and that the vibrator motor can use up a little bit of battery power faster, which is critical for active users.
With MIUI and the new HyperOS, tactile recoil settings can be scattered across different menus, causing confusion. Users often search for the switch in general audio settings, forgetting that a single application or specific partition of the system is responsible for the keyboard. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to remove the press vibration, including hidden settings and settings of third-party keyboards.
It's worth noting that the procedure may vary depending on the firmware version and the model of your device. For example, on global versions of shells, the menu may be arranged differently than on Chinese ones. We'll look at universal ways to make printing quiet and comfortable.
Disabling vibration through MIUI system settings
The first and obvious step is to check the global sound and vibration settings. In the new Xiaomi shell versions, these parameters have been put into a separate menu to avoid cluttering the main interface, you need to open the Settings app and find the section responsible for the audio.
So, what's important here is not to confuse the vibration of the call with the vibration of the touch, and what we're interested in is the second item, which is often hidden in the submenu "Advanced" or "Sound and Vibration." If the "Vibration on touch" slider is active, the system will vibrate whenever it interacts with the interface, including typing.
However, even after this setting is turned off, the keyboard can continue to vibrate, which is because the keyboard application has its own, priority settings that override the system settings, so this step is just a preparatory step.
- ๐ฑ Open the smartphone settings.
- ๐ Go to the section Sound and vibration.
- ๐ Find the Vibration item when touching and turn it off.
- โ๏ธ Check availability of the item Additional sound settings for detail.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Disabling the system vibration of touch can remove the response not only on the keyboard, but also when you scroll through the menu or press buttons in the interface. If you want a system response, but do not need a print vibration, this method is not suitable for you - move to the configuration of the keyboard application itself.
Setting up the standard Gboard keyboard on Xiaomi
Most Xiaomi smartphones use Googleโs Gboard keyboard by default. This powerful app has flexible settings to fine-tune the tactile returns. To get to the right menu, you donโt have to look for an app icon in the list of programs.
Simply call the keyboard in any input field (such as in search or messenger) and click on the gear icon, which is usually located in the top panel of the keyboard. If there is no icon, press the comma or space key to see the settings menu.
Inside the Gboard menu, we're interested in the Settings section, and that's where the switch that controls the vibration when you press the keys is hidden, and it's important to understand that this setting works regardless of the system vibration that I mentioned above.
๐ก
If you canโt find Gboard settings, try.long-press on the space key โ this often causes a context menu with quick access to settings.
After you turn off the keystroke vibration slider, the changes take effect instantly. You don't need to restart the phone. If the vibration has gone but has appeared after a while, check if the keyboard application has updated in the background by resetting the settings.
Remove vibrations on the Sogou keyboard (for Chinese versions)
Chinese firmware and some global builds have a default Sogou keyboard, a very different interface from Gboard, and tactile recoil settings are hidden deeper, and users are often lost in Chinese characters or unusual icons.
To access the settings, click on the Sogou logo at the top of the keyboard, then select Settings (usually a gear icon). Next, look for a section related to sound or appearance, often called Sound and Vibration, or has corresponding speaker and phone icons.
Inside this menu, you need to find a slider that tells you how to make a vibration or turn it on, and often it tells you not just to turn it off, but to choose the intensity from several levels, and setting a value to zero completely disables the tactile response.
| Parameter | Default value | Recommended value | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Key vibrations | Included. | Off. | Total lack of response |
| Pressing sound | Included. | As you wish. | Acoustic signal |
| The gap vibration | Included. | Off. | Long key response |
| Intensity | Medium | 0 (Zero) | Motor power. |
What if Sogou doesnโt have a Russification menu?
Instructions for third-party keyboards (SwiftKey, Yandex)
If you have an alternative keyboard installed, like Microsoft SwiftKey or Yandex.Key, Xiaomi's system settings no longer control their behavior. Each application has its own input engine. Consider an example of customization for popular alternatives.
In SwiftKey, you need to go to the application settings (via the icon in the keyboard bar), select the section "Sounds and vibrations", there will be a separate slider "Vibration on pressing", which you need to move left to the end, and the same logic is maintained for other developers.
In Yandex.Keyboard, the path can look like Settings โ Sound and Vibration. Note that some keyboards allow you to adjust different vibration forces for different zones or even turn off vibrations only for the digital series, leaving it for letters.
โ๏ธ Checking the third-party keyboard
Without this permission, the settings will not apply, and the keyboard may not work at all or work with restrictions.
Vibration problems after HyperOS update
With the release of the new HyperOS shell, many users have noticed a change in the logic of how tactile response works. Xiaomi has implemented more complex vibration algorithms that can ignore standard settings for the sake of โpremiumโ sensations, which often leads to the fact that the sliders on the menu work incorrectly.
In some cases, cleaning the cache of the Settings app or the keyboard itself helps, and you need to go to Settings โ Apps โ All apps, find the right application, and select Clear โ Clear the cache.
Itโs also worth checking the Advanced Settings section in the audio menu. HyperOS sometimes has a separate silent vibration switch that can conflict with the keyboardโs basic settings. If youโre using Do Not Disturb mode, make sure that vibration isnโt banned globally for all but a select few apps.
๐ก
In HyperOS, vibration settings can be spread out in two different places: in the system sound profile and in the profile of a particular keyboard application.
If software methods donโt help, the problem may be a specific bug in the firmware version, in which case you should wait for a security update or use a temporary solution in the form of a third-party keyboard that does not conflict with the new drivers of the vibrator.
What to do if the vibration does not turn off
There are times when all sliders are twisted to a minimum and the keyboard continues to vibrate, which can be a sign of software failure or version conflict. First, try a banal but effective device reboot, which will reset the temporary errors of input services.
If the reboot didnโt work, check to see if the developer mode is on with interface debugging options that can boost tactile response, and check for updates to the keyboard app itself in Google Play or GetApps.
In extreme cases, you can try to remove the keyboard updates to the factory version or, conversely, delete it and install it again, this is guaranteed to reset all settings to default, where the vibration is often already disabled or easily adjusted.
- ๐ Reboot your smartphone to reset services.
- ๐๏ธ Clear the cache and keyboard app data.
- ๐ฒ Check for updates in the app store.
- โ๏ธ Reset the special features settings if they have changed.
โ ๏ธ Note: When cleaning keyboard data (not to be confused with cache), you may delete the words you saved in your dictionary and personalized theme settings. Be prepared to retrain your keyboard for your printing style.
