Why does Xiaomiโs screen itself increase with double tapping?
You accidentally touched the screen of Xiaomi, Redmi or twice POCO โ And suddenly the interface became huge, and to get back to normal, you had to poke around the display again? MIUI.
The feature is designed for visually impaired people: double-touch screens zoom in 1.5 to 2 times, another double-touch zooms back to the original, but for most users, this gesture becomes a source of irritation โ especially when it works by accident while playing, reading or scrolling through social media feeds. Fortunately, you can turn it off in 2-3 minutes, and we'll show you all the working ways.
Itโs important to understand that settings can be in different menu sections depending on the MIUI version (12, 13 or 14) and the smartphone model. For example, on Xiaomi 12T Pro, the path to option is one, and on Redmi Note 10 Pro, the other. We will cover all options, including hidden methods for older versions of firmware.
Method 1: Disconnection through โSpecial Opportunitiesโ (MIUI 12โ14)
This is the most versatile method that works on most modern Xiaomi devices. The instruction is relevant for Android 10-14 smartphones with a MIUI 12-14 shell, including Xiaomi 13/14 series models, Redmi Note 11/12, POCO F4/F5 and others.
Steps:
- Open the Settings app** (the gear icon on the desktop).
- Scroll down and select the Special Features section (on some devices it may be called Convenience or Additional Features).
- Slip on the item Enlargement (or Screen Size).
- Find the option Double-tap to zoom (or Double-tap to zoom) and move the slider to the โOffโ position.
- To save the changes, you may need to restart the device (the system will prompt it automatically).
If your menu does not have Double-Tap Increase, then the function is managed through another section โ read the following method.
โ๏ธ Check before disabling the function
Method 2: Customize with Gestures and Motions (for MIUI 13โ14)
On some devices (such as the Xiaomi 12 Lite or POCO X5 Pro), the double tap option is hidden in the gesture section, which is because new versions of MIUI have moved some of the features in the screen control menu.
How to turn it off:
- ๐ฑ Open the Settings. โ System system โ Gestures and movements (or settings) โ Additionally. โ Gestures).
- ๐ Scroll down to the Convenience or Special Opportunities block.
- ๐ Find the Double Touch Increase and deactivate it.
- ๐ If the option is grey and not pressed, try first to turn off the Increase triple touch (if there is one).
On some firmware (e.g. MIUI 14.0.5), the function may be called โGestural Scalingโ โ donโt confuse it with the system scale of fonts!
Method 3: Resetting special features settings (if the function is not disabled)
There are times when the double tap magnification slider is inactive or after the shutdown, the function continues to work, this can be due to a failure in the MIUI settings, in which case resetting the special features parameters without losing data will help.
Instructions:
- Go to Settings. โ Special facilities.
- In the upper right corner, press three dots (โฎ) and select Resetting Settings.
- Confirm the action (password or fingerprint may be required).
- After reset, check if the magnification function is disabled by double touch.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Reset will return all the special features settings, including font size, color filters and gestures, to factory values.
What if the reset didn't help?
Table: Where to look for customization on different versions of MIUI
| MIUI version | Device models | The path to adjustment | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIUI 14 | Xiaomi 13/14 series, Redmi Note 12, POCO F5 | Settings โ Special features โ Increase โ Double-touch increase | May require a reboot. |
| MIUI 13 | Xiaomi 11T, Redmi Note 11, POCO X4 | Settings โ Additional โ Special features โ Screen size | On some firmware, the option is called Double-tap zoom. |
| MIUI 12.5 | Xiaomi Mi 10, Redmi Note 9 | Settings โ System โ Gestures โ Convenience โ Double-touch increase | It may not be on Chinese firmware. |
| MIUI 12 | POCO X3, Redmi 9A | Settings โ Special features โ Increase โ Gesture of increase | Requires you to turn off the Triple Touch first |
What to do if the function is not on the menu?
On some devices (especially older models or Chinese firmware), the double tap option may be hidden.
- ๐ง Update. MIUI: Go to Settings. โ The phone. โ Update the system and install the latest firmware. In new builds, the feature usually appears in the menu.
- ๐ฆ Install a patch with Magisk: If you have root rights, you can use the Disable Double Tap Zoom module from the Magisk repository.
- ๐ ๏ธ Use it. ADB: For power users, there is a command that disables the function through debugging: adb shell settings put secure accessibility_display_daltonizer_enabled 0 adb shell settings put secure accessibility_display_daltonizer 0 Note: Requires developer mode enabled and PC connection.
โ ๏ธ Attention: Use ADB or Magisk can cause a loss of warranty or an unstable system.

If you often accidentally activate the magnification, try using a case with protruding edges - this will reduce the number of false touches.
How do I get the increase back if I need it all at once?
If you have disabled the feature but later decided to return it (for example, for temporary use), you can do it in the same ways:
- Through Settings โ Special Opportunities โ Increase (turn on the slider).
- Or through gestures and movements (if the option was there initially).
Alternative gestures can also be used:
- ๐ Triple touch: Some devices have triple tap augmentation (configurable in the same place, in special features).
- ๐ Scaling gesture: Hold three fingers on the screen and pull up/down for temporary zoom (works in the MIUI 14).
If you want the zoom to work only in certain applications (for example, in the browser or instant messengers), use the Local zoom function** in the same special features settings.

Disabling the magnification with the double tap does not affect other gestures (e.g., double tap to wake up the screen).
