Endless alerts from instant messengers, social networks and system applications can turn a nightโs sleep into a nightmare โ especially if your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO makes sounds with each new message. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to mute the phone in the dark without missing important calls. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods, from the standard โDo Not Disturbโ mode to fine-tuning for individual applications.
Itโs important to understand that current versions of MIUI (14 and later) offer flexible notification management tools, but their menu layout may vary depending on the model. For example, on the Xiaomi 13 Pro, the path to settings will be slightly different than on the Redmi Note 12. We took these nuances into account and prepared universal instructions that will suit most of the brandโs devices.
1. Do Not Disturb Mode - The Basic Way to Disable Notifications
The simplest and most effective method is to activate the built-in Do Not Disturb (DND) mode, which blocks all sounds and vibrations, but allows you to adjust exceptions for important contacts or alarms.
- Open Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Do not disturb.
- Activate the switch at the top of the screen.
- Click the schedule and select Add the schedule.
- Specify the time (for example, from 23:00 to 07:00) and the days of the week.
- In the Exclusions section, allow calls from selected contacts or repeated calls.
Note: MIUI 14+ has an option called Automatic Turn on on Schedule, which eliminates the need to turn on the mode manually. If this option is missing, update the firmware through Settings โ About Phone โ System Update.
2.Silent mode setting for individual applications
If you want to leave notifications from some messengers (like WhatsApp or Telegram) but disable others, use custom settings, which is useful if you need messages from colleagues or family, but do not want to hear alerts from games or news apps.
Instructions:
- ๐ฑ Go to Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management.
- ๐ Choose the right app (such as Instagram).
- ๐ Tap Notifications and turn off the Allow Notifications switch.
- ๐ต To fine-tune, click Notification Categories and disable sounds for specific types of alerts (such as Likes or Comments").
An important nuance: some system applications (such as Mi Security or Mi Cloud) may ignore these settings, in which case their notifications will have to be disabled via Do Not Disturb mode or remove application updates.

3. Use of the "Work" and "Home" profiles for automatic switching
The MIUI profile feature allows you to create separate configurations of sounds and notifications for different situations, for example, you can set up a Night profile that will be activated automatically at a given time.
How it works:
- Go to Settings โ Profiles (on some models, the path: Settings โ Additional โ Profiles).
- Click Add Profile and select Night (or create your own).
- In profile settings, turn off notification sounds, set the minimum volume for media, and allow vibration only for calls.
- Activate Automatic Switch and specify the time (e.g. 22:00 to 06:00).
The advantage of this method is that you can not only time-link your profile, but also geolocate it, so for example, your phone will automatically switch to quiet mode when you're at home.
๐ก
If your MIUI version doesnโt have a Profiles section, try updating the Mi Security app through Google Play. Often, new features appear there.
4. Disable notifications via the Quick Settings Panel
A quick way to mute your phone at night is to use a notification panel, which is handy if you forgot to set your schedule in advance or want to temporarily turn off the sounds.
Algorithm of action:
- ๐ฒ Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification bar.
- ๐ Find the icon Do not disturb (usually this is the icon of a bell with a crossed wave).
- ๐ Press and hold the icon to get into the advanced mode settings.
- โฐ Select Turn on for 1 hour, Until morning or set your time.
On some models (e.g. POCO F5), the Quick Settings Panel allows you to immediately select the duration of the mode without going to the menu. If the Do Not Disturb icons are not disturbed, add it through the editing panel (the pencil icon in the upper right corner).
5. Sleep mode setting to save charge and silence
Sleep Mode not only turns off notifications, but also optimizes your phone to save battery, which is useful if you put your phone on overnight charging and donโt want it to run out due to the background activity of apps.
How to activate:
- Open Settings โ Battery and Performance โ Sleeping Mode.
- Turn on the switch and set the schedule (for example, from 23:30 to 07:00).
- In the Sleeping Mode Settings section, mark Disable notifications and Limit background activity.
- Add exceptions for alarm clocks and important apps (like Google Clock).
Important: In sleep mode, some apps (such as instant messengers) may not update messages in the background. If you are critical to receive notifications from Viber or Signal, add them to exceptions or use Do Not Disturb mode instead.

6. Third-party applications for flexible notification management
If standard MIUI tools are not enough, you can use third-party utilities, which offer advanced features such as:
- ๐๏ธ Automatically turn on quiet geolocation (for example, when you are at work or at home).
- ๐ Notification statistics โ which apps most often bother you at night.
- ๐ Selectively disabling sounds for specific chats in messengers.
Top.-3 apps:
| Annex | Functions | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Do Not Disturb Scheduler | Flexible schedule for DND mode, support for geofences | Google Play |
| Notification History Log | Archive of notifications, analytics of application activity | Google Play |
| MacroDroid | Automation by time/geolocation, blocking notifications | Google Play |
โ ๏ธ Note: When using third-party notification management apps, give them permissions carefully. Some utilities (such as Notification Listener) may access sensitive data.
7 Manually shutting down sounds for system notifications
System alerts (such as updates or low battery power) often ignore the Do Not Disturb settings, and you'll have to dig deeper to turn them off:
Steps for MIUI 14/15:
- Go to Settings โ Notifications and Status bar โ Application Notifications.
- Scroll down and select System Notifications.
- Turn off sounds for unnecessary categories (e.g. System Updates or MIUI Tips).
- For battery notifications, go to Settings โ Battery and Performance โ Battery Settings โ Battery Notifications and turn off audible alerts.
On some models (for example, Xiaomi 12T) system notifications can be hidden in the Additional section. If you do not find the right item, search in the settings (the magnifying icon in the upper right corner).
๐ก
Disabling system notifications can hide important information (e.g., overheating of the phone) and it is recommended to leave sounds for critical alerts such as "Low battery charge" (<10%).
