Tired of seeing dozens of notifications from Google Play, Gmail or Google Photos on your Xiaomi screen? You are not alone: users of Redmi, POCO and Mi often find that Google services literally flood the smartphone with unnecessary alerts. The problem is compounded by the fact that MIUI (Xiaomi firmware) has its own notification management features that are not always obvious.
In this article, we’ll look at 5 proven ways to disable notifications from Google, from basic settings in the phone’s menu to hidden Android features, and even radical measures for the most drastic ones.
- 🔇 Completely disable notifications from specific Google apps (Play Store, Gmail, Chrome, etc.)
- 📵 Block system alerts from Google Play Services
- 🔧 Use hidden settings MIUI fine-tuning
- 🛡️ Limit background activity of Google apps so they don’t wake up to send notifications
- ⚙️ Apply radical measures (for advanced users) – disabling sync or removing updates
All instructions are valid for Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones on MIUI 12/13/14 and Android 11-14. If you have a different version of the firmware, check for similar menu items.
1. Disable notifications for individual Google apps
The easiest way to get rid of intrusive alerts is to manually disable them for each Google application, a method that doesn’t require root rights or complex manipulations, but you’ll have to repeat the procedure for each service separately.
Here's how to do it:
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- In the list, find the desired application (for example, Google Play Store, Gmail or Google Photos) and tap it.
- Go to the Notifications section.
- Turn off the Display Notifications switch (in some versions of MIUI, it may be called Allow Notifications).
- Additionally, if you want to leave only important alerts, you can turn off certain categories of notifications (for example, “Recommendations” in the Play Store or “Updates” in Google Photos).
⚠️ Note: some system notifications (e.g. from Google Play Services) may not appear in this menu.
Disable “App Recommendations” in the Google Play Store
Turn off “News and Weather” in Google App
Remove alerts about “New features” in Chrome
Turn off "Album Updates" in Google Photos
Block Marketing Emails in Gmail-->
2.Block system notifications from Google Play Services
Google Play Services is a system application that is responsible for many of Android's features, including notifications. Unfortunately, standard methods to disable its alerts don't always work.
Method 1: through notification settings (for new MIUI versions)
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- In the upper right corner, press three dots (⋮) Select Show System Processes.
- Search for Google Play Services (could be called Google Play Services) and open it.
- Go to Notifications and turn off all available categories.
Method 2: ADB (for advanced users)
If system notifications continue to appear, you can block them using ADB (Android Debug Bridge).
adb shell pm block com.google.android.gms/.update.SystemUpdateActivity
adb shell pm block com.google.android.gms/.update.SystemUpdateService⚠️ Attention: misuse ADB This can cause phone malfunctions. Make sure to back up your data before you execute commands.

3. Limiting background activity of Google applications
Many of the notifications from Google appear because apps are running in the background and constantly checking for updates, and you can limit their activity to reduce the number of alerts.
How to do this:
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Select the app you want (e.g. Google Play Store).
- Go to the Battery. → Background activity.
- Choose to Restrict or Disallow (depending on the MIUI version).
- You can also turn off Auto Start in the same menu.
💡 Useful tip: after limiting background activity, some functions may work slower (for example, updating apps in the Play Store), but notifications will stop appearing so often.
| Annex | What to turn off | Effects of consequences |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play Store | Background activity + Autostart | Application updates will only occur when the Market is opened. |
| Gmail | Synchronization of data | The emails will only be downloaded when the application is opened. |
| Google Photo | Background activity + Notifications | Photos will not automatically be uploaded to the cloud. |
| Chrome | Notifications + Background activity | No notifications will be received about new tabs or articles. |
4. Disable sync with Google account
If you’re willing to take drastic measures, you can completely disable sync with your Google account, which will stop most notifications, but also deprive you of some features (such as backup contacts or photos).
Instructions:
- Open Settings → Accounts and Sync (or Passwords and Accounts in newer versions of MIUI).
- Select your Google account.
- Turn off sync for all services or selectively (e.g., Gmail or Google Photos only).
- To completely disable, click Delete Account (⚠️ This will remove all related data from the phone!).
⚠️ Note: After deleting your Google account, you will not be able to:
- 📱 Install applications from the Play Store
- 📧 Use Gmail and other services
- 🔄 Automatically reserve data (contacts, photos, etc.)
💡
Disabling sync is a last resort, and if you only need some Google services (like the Play Store), you’d better use other ways to block notifications.
5. Reset notification settings (if nothing helps)
If you've tried all the ways, but Google's notifications keep coming, you can reset your notification settings to factory, and that will bring all the permissions back to their original state, and then you can reset them.
How to reset your settings:
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Press three points (⋮) in the upper right corner and select Reset application settings.
- This will not delete your data, but will reset all permissions (including notifications) for all applications.
After discharge:
- 🔄 Go to the settings of each Google application and turn off notifications again.
- 📱 Reboot your phone to make the changes take effect.
- 🔧 Check if there are new categories of notifications that were previously hidden.
💡
If Google’s notifications start to reappear after reset, try updating MIUI to the latest version. Sometimes notification bugs are fixed in new updates.
Additional tips: how to reduce the number of notifications
In addition to completely disabling, you can reduce the number of notifications from Google by configuring them more flexibly:
- 🔔 Priority of notifications: In the notification settings for each application, you can select priority (for example, "Low" or "No sound.
- 📴 Do Not Disturb: Set a schedule to automatically disable all notifications at night or at work (Settings) → Sound and vibration → Don't disturb).
- 📊 Category Restriction: Some apps (e.g. Gmail) only allow notifications to be disabled for certain folders (e.g. Spam or Social Networks").
- 🔄 App updates: sometimes notification bugs get fixed in new versions.Update Google Play Services and other apps in the Play Store.
If you use a POCO Launcher or MIUI Launcher with a Google Discover widget, you can also turn it off:
- Press and hold the empty space on the main screen.
- Select Screen Settings (or Launcher Settings).
- Find the Google Discover option (or News Feed) and turn it off.
