Why T9 Auto Replacement Is Irritating to Redmi Users and How to Fight It
The T9 auto-replacement feature on Xiaomi Redmi smartphones was supposed to make typing easier, but often becomes a source of annoyance. The system stubbornly corrects correctly written words, suggests irrelevant options or changes the meaning of messages, especially in MIUI 13/14, where machine learning algorithms have become more aggressive in “helping” users.
Compounding the problem, standard Gboard or Mi Keyboard keyboard settings don’t always allow autocorrects to be fully deactivated. Many Redmi Note 12, Redmi 10 or POCO X5 owners find that even after the AutoReplace option is disabled, the system continues to highlight words and offer fixes. In this article, we’ll look at all the working methods, from basic settings to hidden developer settings.
It’s important to understand that on some Redmi models with global firmware (EEA), the option to completely disable the T9 is locked at the system level, in which case only installing an alternative keyboard or manually editing configuration files will help.
Method 1: Standard shutdown in keyboard settings
Let’s start with the most obvious method that works on most Xiaomi devices with factory firmware, which is suitable for owners of Redmi 9, Redmi Note 11 and other models on MIUI 12-14:
- Open any text field (such as Messages or Notes) to allow the keyboard to appear.
- Press the gear icon (⚙️) in the top row of the keyboard to go to its settings.
- Select Text Input or Text Correction (name depends on the version of MIUI).
- Turn off the following options: 🔄 Auto-correction (Auto-correction) 📝 Prediction of the next word (Next-word suggestions) 🔍 Spell check (Spell check) 💡 Personalized suggestions (personalized suggestions)
After you make the changes, restart the keyboard: close all the apps and open the text box again. If the auto-replacement continues, move on to the next method.

Method 2: Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the standard shutdown didn’t work, try resetting your keyboard settings, which is effective when previous changes conflict with system updates:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- In the search bar, enter the keyboard and select the keyboard you use (Gboard or Mi Keyboard).
- Click Warehouse → Clear the data and confirm the action.
- Return to the keyboard settings and re-disable all autocorrect options.
