Auto-replacement of the T9 on Xiaomi Poco smartphones is often a source of irritation: the system stubbornly corrects correctly written words, substitutes ridiculous options or slows down when typing. This is especially noticeable in instant messengers, where print speed is critical. The problem is complicated by the fact that new versions of MIUI 14/15 keyboard settings are hidden deeper, and some options have moved to other menus.
Many users mistakenly think that disabling the T9 will lead to a complete loss of auto-complement β this is not true. You can save word cues by removing only aggressive auto-correction. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways, from standard settings to hidden features Gboard and SwiftKey, which work even on the Poco F5, Poco X6 Pro and other models from 2023-2026.
It's important to understand that the problem isn't always the keyboard itself. Sometimes it's Xiaomi's cloud services that synchronize the "learning" dictionary between devices. If you've previously used another Xiaomi/Redmi smartphone and moved data, the system can substitute words from the old dictionary - even after resetting the keyboard.
Before you start settings, check the MIUI version in Settings β About Phone. This depends on the location of some menu items. Also note that Poco with Global ROM and China ROM may have different paths to settings.
1. disable the T9 in the standard MIUI keyboard
Most Xiaomi Poco users use the native keyboard from MIUI, which by default includes aggressive auto-replacement.
1. Open any field to enter text (for example, in Messages or Notes).
2. Press the gear icon (βοΈ) on the keyboard to open the settings.
3. Go to the section Text input β Autoreplace.
Here you will find an unpleasant surprise: in the latest versions of MIUI, the option of completely disabling the T9 may not be available, instead, only sensitivity settings are available, in which case you will have to use workarounds (see section 3).
If the Auto-Replacement option is present, move the slider to the off position. and additionally turn off:
- π Autocorrection β corrects typos automatically
- π Learning a dictionary β remembering new words (may conflict with the language) T9)
- βοΈ Cloud sync β often substitutes words from other devices
β οΈ Note: Some Poco models (e.g. Poco) X3 Pro) after the auto-replacement is disabled, the Russian layout may disappear. To return it, go to Settings β Additionally. β Language and input β Virtual keyboard β Keyboard control and turn on Russian (MIUI) freshly.
2. Setting up Gboard (Google Keyboard)
Gboard is a popular alternative to the standard MIUI keyboard, but the T9 is sometimes too intrusive to adjust auto-replacement:
1. Install Gboard from Google Play if you haven't already done so.
2. Activate it in Settings β System β Language and input β Virtual keyboard.
3. Open any text field, click on the gear icon on the keyboard and select More keyboard settings.
On the Gboard menu, go to:
- π Correction of text β Auto Replacement - Turn off the slider
- π Dictionary β Personal dictionary β remove unnecessary words
- βοΈ Dictionary β Synchronize the dictionary - turn off if not necessary
For full control of the prompts, go to Settings β Text Correct β Show the prompts and select Never or Only when typed from the keyboard.
Auto-replacement disabled in "Text correction"
Removed unnecessary words from personal dictionary
Dictionary synchronization is disabled (if not necessary)
Selected "Never" in the prompt settings-->
3. Hidden keyboard settings via ADB (for experienced)
If standard methods do not help, you can turn off T9 through ADB-This method works on all Xiaomi Poco models, but requires a connection to a computer.
1. Install Platform Tools from Google.
2. Enable USB Debugging on your phone: Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version (click 7 times), then Settings β Additional β For Developers β Debugging over USB.
3. Connect the phone to the PC and execute the command:
adb shell settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 0To disable dictionary learning (if words are still being substituted):
adb shell settings put secure next_word_prediction_enabled 0β οΈ Attention: After completion ADB-commands can reset the user's dictionary, we recommend pre-exporting important words through the keyboard settings β Dictionary β Export (if the function is available).
To get it back, use the same commands, replacing 0 with 1.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
4. Reset keyboard settings to factory
If the T9 continues to malfunction even after all the manipulations, resetting the keyboard will help, which will delete all the saved words and return the parameters to the "out of the box" state.
For the standard MIUI keyboard:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the MIUI (or LatinIME) keyboard and open it.
- Press Warehouse. β Clear the data.
For Gboard:
- Open Settings β Apps β Gboard.
- Select Warehouse β Space Management β Clear all data.
After resetting, you will have to reconfigure layouts and connect dictionaries, but all the βlearnedβ auto-replacement errors will disappear.
| Action. | Standard MIUI keyboard | Gboard |
|---|---|---|
| Shutting down auto-replacement | βοΈ β Text input β Auto-replacement | βοΈ β Correction of text β Auto-replacement |
| Clearing the dictionary | Settings β Applications β MIUI Keyboard β Storage β Clear data | Settings β Dictionary β Personal dictionary β Delete everything |

If the keyboard starts to lag after reset, try restarting the phone, and sometimes MIUI will incorrectly restore the keyboard cache after cleaning the data.
5. Alternative keyboards without T9
If neither of these methods worked, consider installing a third-party keyboard where auto replacement shuts down completely or works more neatly. The best options for Xiaomi Poco are:
- π― SwiftKey - flexible auto-replacement settings, gesture support
- π€ Fleksy β Minimalist keyboard with deactivated T9
- β‘ Simple Keyboard is open source, without cloud services
- π± Chroom β keyboard with adaptive design for MIUI
For installation:
1. Download the keyboard from Google Play.
2. Activate it in Settings β System β Language and input β Virtual keyboard.
3. In the new keyboard settings, find the Auto Replace or Text Correction section and turn off all options.
On the Simple Keyboard, auto replacement is turned off by default β this is the only solution where the T9 is guaranteed not to interfere without additional settings.
6 Problems after T9 shutdown and their solutions
Disabling auto-replacement can have unexpected consequences, and here are the most common problems and ways to solve them:
1.The Russian layout is missing
β Go to Settings β Additional β Language and input β Virtual Keyboard β Keyboard management and turn Russian back on.
2.The keyboard started to brake
β Clear the keyboard cache in Settings β Apps β [keyboard name] β Storage β Clear the cache.
3. Voice input or emojis are not working
β Check if these functions are disabled in the keyboard settings (Section Additional or Functions).
4.The words are underlined in red, but not corrected.
β This is spelling checks, not T9. Turn them off in Keyboard Settings β Text Correction β Spelling check.
β οΈ Attention: On some firmware MIUI (especially Chinese after the shutdown T9 SwiftKey or other third-party keyboards may stop working, in which case the installation of Magisk and the Disable module will help. MIUI Keyboard that completely removes the standard keyboard.

If you use Xiaomi Poco with custom firmware (like Pixel Experience), T9 settings may be in the Android menu, not MIUI. Look for them in Settings β System β Language and Input β Virtual Keyboard β Gboard/SwiftKey.
