Subtitles on Xiaomi TVs can appear suddenly โ while watching a movie, streaming YouTube, or even switching channels โ most often due to random button pressing on the remote, automatically turning on special features or after updating the firmware. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to disable subtitles on any Xiaomi TV model, from the budget Redmi Smart TV to the flagship Mi TV Q2 and Mi TV A Pro.
It's important to understand that subtitles can come from not only the TV itself, but also external devices, such as set-top boxes, media players, or even IPTV broadcasts, so we're going to look at not only system settings, but also different scenarios, and if you're looking at subtitles only appearing in certain applications (such as Netflix or Prime Video), there are separate instructions for that too.
Before you start settings, make sure the problem is not related to the current signal source, for example, if the subtitles only appear when viewed through the channel. HDMI-ports, first check the settings of the connected device (console, game console, etc.).
1. Disable subtitles through the TV settings menu
The most versatile way is to use the built-in settings of Xiaomi TV. The interface may vary slightly depending on the model and firmware version, but the overall algorithm remains the same.
1. Press the Settings button on the Xiaomi remote.
2. Go to All settings โ System โ Special features.
3. Find the subtitles (or Closed Captions in English firmware).
4. Transfer the slider to the Off position. or select No in the drop-down menu.
If your Xiaomi TV model does not have a separate subtitles item in the special features, try an alternative way:
- ๐บ Settings โ Sound. โ Additionally. โ Subtitles
- ๐ Settings โ Language and input โ Subtitling settings
- ๐ฏ Settings โ Annexes โ System applications โ Subtitles (for Android) TV)
Open the TV settings menu
Find the section "Special features" or "Sound"
Check all sub-paragraphs with subtitles
Restart the TV after changes-->
On some models (e.g. Mi TV 4S or Redmi Smart TV X), subtitles can be controlled via quick settings.
- Press the Menu button on the remote.
- Select the CC (Closed Captions) icon in the top panel.
- Turn off the function if it is active.
๐ก
If the menu does not have "Subtitles", try resetting the sound settings to the factory. To do this, go to Settings โ System โ Resetting โ Resetting the sound settings.
2. disabling subtitles for specific applications
Sometimes subtitles only appear on certain services, such as Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video or OKKO, in which case the problem is not with the TV, but with the settings of the app itself.
| Annex | The Way to Subtitle Settings | Additional advice |
|---|---|---|
| Netflix | Profile โ Settings โ Subtitles โ Off. | If subtitles are enabled automatically, check your profile settings on Netflix. |
| YouTube | Video โ The button "CC" in the lower right corner โ Off. | In the mobile version of YouTube, subtitles can be synchronized with the TV. |
| Prime Video | Reproduction settings โ Language and subtitles โ No | Check your Amazon account settings โ forced subtitles may be enabled there. |
| OKKO / IVI | Video settings โ Subtitles โ Disable | In some movies, subtitles are sewn into the video stream โ they cannot be turned off. |
If you watch content over IPTV or digital TV (DVB-T2), subtitles can be transmitted along with the signal.
- Open the Teleguide on the Xiaomi remote.
- Select the channel where the subtitles appear.
- Press the Info or OK button to call the additional menu.
- Find the subtitles or telext item and turn it off.
Why canโt subtitles be turned off in apps?
3. Resetting the sound settings and subtitles to the factory
If the subtitles are not turned off through the menu, there may have been a failure in the system settings, in which case a partial reset will help, it will return only the audio and subtitles settings to the factory settings, without affecting the rest of the TV functions.
For discharge:
- Go to Settings โ System โ Resetting settings.
- Select Reset audio settings (or Reset special features settings).
- Confirm the action by entering PIN-code (default 0000 or 1234).
- After the reboot, check if the subtitles have disappeared.
๐ก
Partial reset does not remove installed applications or reset network settings; it is a safe way to return factory settings to sound and subtitles.
If a partial reset does not work, you can perform a full reset, but note that in this case:
- ๐ All installed applications will be removed.
- ๐ถ Wi-Fi settings and accounts will have to be re-entered.
- ๐ฎ Stored games and data in applications will be lost.
For full discharge:
- Go to Settings โ System โ Resetting โ Reset all settings.
- Enter. PIN-code (usually 0000, 1111 or 1234).
- Confirm the reset and wait for the reboot (it will take 3-5 minutes).

Never had a problem.-->
4. Checking the remote control for accidental inclusion of subtitles
One of the most common reasons for subtitles is the random clicking of buttons on the remote, and Xiaomi remotes (especially on models for the Mi TV 4/4S/4X) have special buttons that can activate this feature:
- ๐ต Button CC (Closed Captions โ Enables/disables subtitles.
- ๐ค Subtitle button or TXT โ teletext-driven.
- ๐ Info button (hold) โ on some remotes opens the subtitle menu.
To make sure the problem isn't in the remote:
- Remove the batteries from the remote for 10 seconds, then insert back.
- Try to control your TV through the Mi Remote app (available for Android and iOS).
- If the subtitles are gone, the problem is the physical remote, so try to rub the buttons with alcohol or replace the remote.
๐ก
On some Xiaomi remotes, the CC button is paired with the Mute button (no sound). Press it once - if the subtitles are lost, then they were turned on due to accidental pressing.
If you have a universal remote (not the original Xiaomi remote), check its settings. One of the buttons is probably programmed to include subtitles.
- Open the remote control manual.
- Find the section "Setting up additional functions".
- Turn off button binding to the Closed Captions function.
5. Update of TV firmware
In rare cases, subtitles may appear due to firmware bugs, such as Mi TV 4A (2018-2019 models) that had an error where subtitles were automatically turned on after the update. To rule out this, check the software version's relevance:
1. Go to Settings โ About TV โ System Update.
2.Click Check for Updates.
3. If a new version is available, install it.
If the TV does not find updates, but you know that your model has a newer firmware, you can update manually:
- Download the firmware from the official Xiaomi Support website (select your model).
- Copy the file to a flash drive in FAT32 format.
- Put the flash drive in. USB-television-port.
- Go to Settings โ About TV โ Update via USB.
How to find out the model of your Xiaomi TV?
After the firmware update:
- ๐ Restart the TV (Settings) โ System system โ Reboot).
- ๐ Check the subtitles again - they could have reset.
- ๐ฅ Install the latest app updates (especially Google Play Services if you have Android) TV).
6.Alternative methods: disabling through ADB and service menu

- Press the sequence on the remote: Menu โ 1 โ 1 โ 9 โ 9 (for some models: Menu โ 4 โ 7 โ 2 โ 5)
